How Did That Happen?

Time skip to a few episodes before the group first gets to Hayworth because I'm a lazy woman...

I guess this is the place all those flyers have been pointing to, a chance for salvation. I think it's all a lie but it's worth checking out. I'm hoping Kate or my brother will be here, somehow.

I smiled and walked into town. If villains in movies don't have to run, neither do I.

Looking around, there was a lot of random junk just laying there, there just wasn't a comfortable atmosphere. Speaking of uncomfortable atmosphere, there weren't any people.

"Hey! Anyone alive?!" I yelled, my voice slightly echoing off the buildings.

Soon though, I saw someone run across the walkway. Sighing in relief, I ran to catch up with them.

What was bound to eventually happen, I was able to catch up with the mystery person.

"Holy cow do you run fast," I huffed, stopping to take a breath. "You're the first alive person I've seen so far."

"So, you finally found me," the mystery man laughed, turning around to look at me.

"Well, I can say that you probably had a hand in that." I smiled.

"Well of course Sabrina, I've been waiting to see you again." Red smiled in return.

"Okay, freckle boy." I pointed to his face, childish I'm aware of but the pout on his face was worth it.

"Peach fuzz."

"Red afro."

"Strawberry."

"Asteroid dinner."

"Sun-dried tomato."

"Cyborg Superman."

"Are we going to keep doing this?"

"I guess not."

"Come on, you probably had a long journey." Red smiled a giant smile, and took my wrist.

Quickly I might add, he dragged me into a nearby building and down the basement stairs. Or really, what should be a small basement but looks like an underground army base.

"What is this place?" I asked, looking around in wonder, would Katelyn be here?

"I've made a community for survivors, or the ones we can find." Red pointed to the many people eating on tables.

"Wow, you've done something productive. I'm proud of you, baby brother." I smiled, although wondering where all these people came from and how they got here.

It's a weird feeling, some of the people at the tables look at me, then to my brother, before finally looking back at me.

"Can I ask why there's so much random stuff up top?"

"It's just stuff we never got around to grabbing, we've been busy enough as it is. Speaking of which," Red looks over to a group of people by the steps we had just came from. "Could you help them grabbing any medical supplies up top?" Red looked at me, using puppy eyes that never have, and will never, work.

I look at him quizzically, "will you be coming with?"

"Nah, there's something I need to take care of."

Nodding in understanding, I used the stairs that I had previously used not too long ago, followed by the few people Red had pointed out earlier who nodded at me in understanding.

So after awhile of looking in the small town of Hayworth, I found a little less then I could've sworn I saw.

Red was giving her a tour of Hayworth, starting with the aboveground portion.

"And please do not go into the forests because I am honestly not one hundred percent sure which area is safe." Red points out, in his very serious voice.

"Too bad, I was really looking forward to the sweet release of death." I dead stare.

"That's not a very good thing to hope for," Red pouted.

"Anyways, come on. We should probably go back before everyone thinks you've gone missing."

When someone is bored, what is one to do? When someone is bored, lives in an apocalypse, and is possibly a genuine thrill seeker, what's a girl to do but to walk into a forest of death death for the glory of the death death?

So I'm not surprised when I walked into the forest, with only a sword in hand because I prefer not to ruin my hearing with guns, and a batch of zombies are at my feet dead.

The minute I find my way back to everyone, is the minute I'm going to add this to the list of reasons swords are better than guns.

I may be able to get back without the boys and Jess knowing I went out.

It's pointless, I know, just going out there to kill a few zombies then return to my friends without any care but it's just more fun that way.

"Yeah yeah, I know I need to stop doing this." I rolled my eyes, already knowing the disapointed faces I'm getting right now.

"Kate, how many times have you done this since we met you?" Nick sighed.

"I lost count," I shrugged. "I come back every time, it's not a big deal."

"That doesn't help your case, Kate." AK face palmed.

"At least have the sense to bring someone with you." Nick suggested.

"Oh come on, that isn't necessary." I argued.

"I don't honestly know anymore if that's false." Nick walked off, causing me to smile in victory.

When it comes to getting Nick frustrated, it's not easy. If I'm glad I accomplished something, it's that.

"And away he goes," AK chuckled, he finds these situations funny.

"Doesn't make me feel any less upset." I rolled my eyes.

"Well, you sneak off in the middle of the night just to kill zombies for an adrenaline high." AK scrunched his nose.

"I am not an adrenaline junkie," I slapped his shoulder.

"Hey, just saying what I notice." AK rubbed where I slapped.

I rolled my eyes and walked to the dock. Looking out to the moon was honestly something people should encourage more. I layed down, looking at the stars. Did I know Nick and AK were still outside watching me? Did I really care? I smiled as I fell asleep and felt a pair of arms pick me up.

(Nick)

My God Katelyn.

This woman is going to be the end of herself or anyone else or really, both.

As I saw her falling asleep on the dock, I sighed and looked to AK.

"On chute?"

"Rock,"

"Paper,"

"Scissors,"

"Chute!"

I had rock, he had paper.

Somewhere along the way was a face palm, but I walked over and picked her up. Her dyed black hair was fading, leaving plain auburn in its place.

As I layed her down on the couch, taking her brown boots and black vest off, leaving them nearby. I didn't worry about her being cold, Kate still had a thin line, green sweater and jeans.

Sighing, I went upstairs and slept on the floor.

I looked at my sister for a moment, noting the subtle changes. Sabrina's ginger hair was unevenly cut short, no doubt her own doing, and her brown eyes that were full of curiosity and analysis rather than calm and cheer. Sabrina had gone through changes, no doubt alone.

She had jeans, a white T-shirt covered in dirt and mud, a flannel tied around her waist, and her classic black running shoes.

"Do you want to stay here?" I asked, not sure that I'd be able to let her go even if she said no.

"I've spent all this time looking for you and Katelyn, why wouldn't I stay?"

Sorry for the short POV changes in the end. I wanted to get how they look out of the way and get a little more with Katelyn. Well I kinda have to, Sabrina is looking for her.
