Chapter 26
Alyssa's PoV:
This was possibly the worst idea ever.
And when I mean worst, is like really really terrible. I had a bad feeling about this idea of bringing Chase over. Everything was going right and when something is going too right, I know shit is about to happen.
It's not about being negative is just being realistic, Emily would probably say try to be overly positive everything is fine but barely does she knows that I feel when trouble is coming and right now I feel it, I feel it very much.
Nate and I went to order the pizzas so everything went just fine, no one suspected anything, we grabbed the pizzas and went home and once we placed the pizzas over the counter I felt it, that really bad feeling that was slowly taking over me.
"Ok, pizzas here everybody!" My brother exclaimed making everyone quickly get up from the couch and desperately trying to find their own pizza.
They started to take the pizzas out and my chest tightened, I was really scared about Nate's stupid idea.
"Hey, are you alright?" Emily asked placing her hand over my shoulder
"Oh yeah just fine" I nodded, I noticed she didn't buy a thing of what I just said
"It's going to be ok, relax, think positive" She said with a smile as I was dying inside slowly, I knew she would be positive about it
"What's this?" Jaden asked looking inside the bag that carried the pizzas
"What?" Aiden asked looking inside "Did you bought an extra pizza?" my brother questioned looking at me... and here we go
"She probably eats a lot" Cady proposed with a laugh that Regina joined in later
"Ah so funny" I whispered ironically
"There's a plus one" Nate said out of the blue
"A plus one?" Aiden asked quickly looking at me as well as the whole room
"Oh please is nothing much" Nate said making my heart and probably my brother's jump in agony "Is just Chase"
"Chase?" Aiden asked thinking about it
"Roacher" Mason snorted looking at me
"Don't call him that" I told him
"Wait... no no no" Aiden quickly reminded who we were talking about thanks to Mason's description "Not that guy"
"He is fine" I imposed
"Pretty fine" Amy said while looking at her pizza
"No... I don't like that" Aiden commented "We are in this big house with no surveillance, no parents, I don't want him here plus he is a stoner"
"Nowadays who isn't really?" Nate joked making Jaden and Luke laugh
"Chase is cool, stop acting like my dad. Not even Dad acts like that"I commented looking at him
"I don't consent to it"
"I never asked for your consent brother" I replied
"Alyssa" he said with a threatening tone"
"Get your act together and behave or I sware to God your vacation will end early" I threatened back, I saw a spark of his frown but it quickly went away and the doorbell rang, right on time
"I'll open it" Mason
"I'll do it" I said quickly running to the door
"No, it's fine I'll do it" He imposed reaching the door handle
"I can do it"
"So can I"
"My brother doesn't like him already don't throw Chase into the fire" I whispered at him so everyone couldn't hear
"Why? What if I don't like him too?" he whispered back
"Then it's none of your business"
"You are getting very defensive of your boyfriend"
"And you are getting very into skiing aren't you?"
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means stop messing with Chase and piss off with your girlfriend" I frowned as I whispered to him
"I know that face" he grinned, I tried to ignore his words putting a nice smile on my face and opening the door
"Hi Chase!" i said smiling at him, he got in smiling from ear to ear at me, his eyes open wide ready to hug me but he stopped as he was startled by the door closing
"Sorry" Mason said with a smirk " You should just walk in" he proposed and Chase did as he said
"You better knock it off" I whispered to Mason
"I will ...right next to Cady"
"Good" I spat while frowning
"Great" he smiled softly waking to the kitchen without a care in the world. I followed him to the kitchen aisle. Chase followed after me and while the boys and Regina and Cady were happily eating on the table my friend decided to eat peacefully on the kitchen aisle.
Mason sat near Cady on the table and I tried to ignore the whole situation while hoping Chase would leave this villa alive.
"So Chase what are you doing in Aspen?" Amy started the conversation while Nate handed him his pizza.
"Family vacation, enjoying winter sports"
"So your family is like a fanatic over sports?" Nate questioned while munching on his pizza after
We all sat down on the high benches hearing curiously Chase "Pretty much, yeah" he laughed looking at me " Is that bad?"
"Well if you dedicate more time to sports than your future girlfriend then yes, it will be a problem" Amy said looking at him with a serious face
"I get it, although that will never happened. If I ever get a girlfriend I will spoil her as much as I can, she will be my priority"
"See I like him" Nate replied after hearing Chase's answer. Chase looked at my with a victory smile as my friends started to approve him
"But I can always leave some space for some ski race" he whispered at me, making my cheeks hot. He was really good at flirting or maybe I was not used to this at all, but that simple phrase made me realize that Chase understood that I really like skiing.
The conversation went on as my friends got to know Chase, and they were pretty interested in everything that he did.
The boys finished their pizzas, and decided to have some drinks in the balcony outside where there was a fire place surrounded by comfortable chairs.
"Should we go outside too?" Chase asked looking at them outside laughing and having fun, the big windows allowed me to see Cady leaniing her on Mason's shoulder who was drinking and smile, just that sight made me frown.
"I don't think its a good idea" I told him
"What do you mean?" Nate asked "It'll be great they have booze let's go"
"That's exactly the problem" I commented but no one seemed to hear me or maybe they did they just didn't care about it.
"Hello everyone" Nate smiled as we reached outside, we took a few chairs left also sitting around the fire. The cold air was biting, but the fire's heat made it feel cozy and comfortable. We were all bundled up in blankets, sipping on hot cocoa or something stronger, depending on who you asked, like for example...
"Roacher, do you wanna a drink?" Cameron asked while Chase nodded happily, his eyes seemed to chine once Cameron talked to him "Here" Cameron gave him a cup and I got a bit suspicious. We will never know what is inside that cup and I don't like that.
Seems that when Chase is around I get overly protective of him but it's just... I am a bit of afraid of my brother and his friends they don't go very easy with new faces.
"So what about a game?" Jaden proposes
"Ohhh truth or dare?" Cady suggests making my disgusted face appear for a few milliseconds
"Oh let's do it spicyyy" Cameron grinned and I knew instantly this was not a good idea. There was some stupid dares like Regina stripping or Cady going to the jacuzzi and coming out with her clothes glued to her skin. They were doing stupid dares and stupid questions... and the alcohol was making it worse for example when Luke asked Aiden if he really liked his girlfriend and after saying yes, Regina was very frustrated.
It was Aiden's turn, and I was praying to all the gods that Emily tells me for him not say his name "So... Chase"
Fuck.
I could tell there was more to it than just the game. It was like he was testing him, trying to see how far Chase would go or maybe just trying to humiliate him in front of everyone. Chase, who had been drinking since dinner, was already tipsy and, as usual, was up for anything, eager to prove he could handle whatever was thrown at him.
My brother dared him to sing, to skinny dip, to drink and drink, the question about the truth never really came making it impossible for Chase to choose, it was dare or dare.
The night wore on, and the dares got bolder.
Then Aiden dared Chase to go outside into the freezing snow and build a snowman but ut only his boxers on "Go outside with only your boxers and build a snowman" Aiden dared "or you can just skinny dip like I said before" His friends laughed minus Mason who was observing Chase's moves
I looked over at Chase, watching his nose and red cheek, I could see Chase was already pretty drunk, and the idea of him stumbling around in the cold didn't sit well with me. But Chase, always trying to play the cool guy, especially in front of the famous and popular gang, accepted the dare with a grin and stumbled off into the snow, laughing like it was the best idea ever.
Everyone was laughing, but something in me just felt off. I kept glancing at him stumbling on the white floor, watching him struggle to stay upright in the snow. The cold was intense, and I could see his movements getting slower and clumsier.
After a while, I noticed he had stopped moving. He was just lying there in the snow, barely making any effort to get up. Everyone watched from the balcony laughing, I knew I couldn't just sit there and watch this go any further.
I stood up, the laughter cut off as they looked at me.
"Alyssa where the help are you going?" My brother asked me "It's too cold" his voice fading into the background as I hurried through the snow to get him.
The cold hit me like a wall, but I ignored it and went straight to Chase. He was shivering, his face flushed, and his eyes half-closed. He was so drunk, he could barely talk.
"Come on, Chase, let's get you inside," I said, trying to pull him up so at least he could sit on the ground and then I would lift him up, but he was heavy, and it was clear he wasn't going to make it back on his own.
"I need to build -a, a snow-snowman like Anna" He said laughing as his cold hands shakily tried to gather up some snow. I felt the cold freezing my nose and hands, leaving my fingers frozen.
"No, you need to go inside it's very cold" I explained him
"But the snow....m-man"he said stumbling on his worlds though I didn't know if it was the school or the freezing air. I grabbed his hand trying to pull him up again but I simply couldn't he was like death weight laughing, and his cold hands brushing into mine made me even more aware of the cold out here.
I was struggling and panicking already, but magically Mason appeared beside me. He must have noticed what was happening and came out to help. He didn't spoke he grabbed one arm and wait for me to grab Chase's other one and together, we managed to get Chase up and half-walk, half-drag him back inside. We laid him down on the couch in the living room, where he immediately passed out, still shivering slightly.
Everyone else was too drunk or too tired to really pay attention to what was going on. The noise from outside had died down they started to get up and head upstairs to the rooms, and the villa was quiet except for the crackling of the fire and the occasional creak of the floorboards. Mason and I stood there for a moment, making sure Chase was okay, he was trembling, all of his body was trembling from the cold but he still had a grin on his face.
I placed a fluffy white blanket over him, he quickly clung to it covered his ears, and closed his eyes still grinning.
I could feel the tension hanging in the air, I was hoping he didn't say a word but my prayers weren't being heard today. Mason's brother the silent with a snort while brushing his hair with his hand.
"What were you thinking?" he said, his voice low but tinged with frustration. "It's freezing out there. You could've gotten sick."
I get sick easily if I'm not careful, especially with cold it's true, I usually am not a very warm person, my feet get hyper cold and also my hands they even start to get this weird shade of yellow and my fingers go numb, but even besides that I couldn't just leave Chase out there.
"Well Chase could've gotten sick too, I couldn't just let him stay out there. "
"Well but I don't give a shit about Chase" he responded harshly as I felt a knife through my chest
"I had to do something," I shot back, my frustration growing. "Everyone else was too busy laughing, and Chase was lying there, freezing. What was I supposed to do, just leave him?"
"You could've gotten anyone else to do the job" Mason argued. "But instead, you ran out there without thinking, and now you're shivering just as badly as he was." his voice demanding, and his face with a look of sternness while his brown eyes looked into mine not leaving for one second.
"Yeah I could've gotten everyone else if you weren't all laughing and putting Chase in that position"
"Stop defending as if he didn't accept to drink and play, he's old enough to make decisions" he replied pointing at Chase on the couch who was already sleeping.
"Why do you even care? All you seem to care about is hanging out with Cady. Why don't you just worry about her and leave me alone?"
Mason's expression softened, but there was still a hint of frustration in his eyes, he titled his head and suddenly his expression changed he was no longer mad or frustrated he was holding a soft smirk while his eyes were half-closed as if he was trying to see me better "You are really jealous aren't you... I knew she was going to be a problem"
I could feel my anger rising. "She is not a problem, you are the problem"
"I can live with that too" he said as his smirk grew, I rolled my eyes trying to ignore how irritating he was
"You are so annoying" I mumbled
"I get that a lot" he replied placing his hands on the pockets of his pants
"I don't want to see you this whole vacation deal?" I said taking one last look at Chase and catching Mason's eyes again
The room fell silent after that, the tension between us thick and heavy. "Sure" he shrugged his shoulders
I turned and headed upstairs to my room "You should have some hot tea" he mentioned probably due to the cold that I been through but I didn't responded I just kept walking leaving him standing there by the fireplace, the light from the flames reflecting in his eyes. I just kept thinking how will I sleep tonight?
