Chapter 22

A presence settled next to me and wrapped their arms around me. I smiled and glanced up.
"Hey," I said.
Crowds shuffled through the school hallways while I sat tranquilly alone. A kiss was planted on my cheek before Drew decided to show his gleaming face.
"How are you?" he asked.
I averted my eyes from his and replied brusquely. "Fine."
He was quiet for a while before he pushed a strand of hair away from my face. "What's wrong?"
I gazed up at him and from the corner of my eye I saw Will lingering by a classroom.
Drew noticed him as well and faced me again. "I didn't know we were hiding."
"We're not," I stated.
I prepared to say something else when Drew said, "Okay." His abruptness made me unsure that he truly forgave the situation. I placed my hands on his arm in an attempt to caress him but then he said, "I'll see you after first period?"
I nodded before he kissed me softly on the lips.
Drew
When I pulled away, I noticed her watching me wearily. I understood that she was not comfortable showing affection near Will and accepted her need for our relationship to be concealed around him.
She managed to smile at me before returning to her studies. I maneuvered around the crowd and caught Will's eye briefly before passing him.
Heading in the direction of the soccer field, the turns came naturally. It took me a while, however, to notice the figure following close behind me.
I turned around sharply and saw Will. His expression was unreadable.
"I need to talk to you," he said. His dark eyes were shadowed and made his presence even more eerie.
"Okay," I said allowing him to pull me further down the corridor.
The ring of the bell, muffled by the insulation of the walls, sounded. Will finally stopped pulling me and turned around.
He didn't say anything for a long while and simply eyed our surroundings blatantly avoiding my gaze. When his eyes skidded over mine, I saw him. The real Will: concerned, compassionate, genuine...
He focused on me and grimaced. "I thought you were my friend," he said almost as if I had slapped him before the conversation could start. "I thought we were...brothers."
"Will, I didn't mean for it to be like this," I tried saying.
"I'm talking," he growled. He sighed and continued. "I put it on my sister to stop seeing you."
"What?" I said.
"But, what she told me yesterday..." he trailed. "She was right. It isn't my choice to make. It's yours."
I stared at him dumbfounded. Nothing was making sense. What was he talking about?
"Coach gave me the pamphlet for the the university in Maryland today. That soccer scholarship? It's ours. So, make a choice: our dream or my sister. Maybe on the plane ride there next month, I might just forgive you." His words came out like venom. We had applied for the scholarship when we met the summer of eleventh grade. He had convinced me of his dream which quickly became mine.
"I..." I said.
He waited patiently for me to answer. "Will, I..."
"I don't understand what there is to think about," he stated slightly annoyed. "But even so, I'll give you some time."
He narrowed his eyes and walked past me. His shoulder bumped into mine before he said, "I trust you'll make the right decision. It is your choice after all."
I glanced over my shoulder still in shock as Will's footsteps became fainter and fainter.
Lauren
"I don't even know what I'm doing with my life anymore," I said sighing over the many notes set out in front of me. "I wanna sleep, eat, and cry all at the same time. Why do we have exams? Why do they exist?"
I stopped rambling and turned towards Hanna who was painting her nails idly.
"Han?" I said. "Thinking about bae?"
She didn't reply.
"Hanna!" I screeched.
"Hm?" she said turning towards me. "I'm sorry. What were you saying?"
I sighed, "Doesn't matter. What's the wrong?"
She looked away from me and then back, her hold on my gaze unwavering.
"Can I...can I tell you something?" she asked.
"Of course," I said.
She looked down and said something inaudible.
"Han...?" I said in an effort for her to speak up.
"I said," she restarted with more force. "I think I'm pregnant with Will's baby."
