It was raining heavily in green hills, the weather forecast had predicted heavy rain sometime this week, what he hadn't counted on however was that it would rain on literally the same day he announced it.
Although he was definitely happy to not be put in it, it also meant he couldn't go out for his evening run.
On the plus side it meant he got to lounge in front of the TV with Tom and Maddie and watch movies with them.
Their peace was suddenly interrupted by a loud crash from the garage startling the three of them.
"What was that!" Sonic exclaimed in shock.
"Probably the raccoons trying to get at the stuff in the garage." Tom said getting up.
"You're really gonna go out in that flood." Sonic said.
"A little rain never hurt anyone." Tom said putting his jacket.
"I most passionately disagree." Sonic said before putting on his coat. "But someone has to make sure you don't get swept away." He added.
The two headed into the garage and Tom shone a flashlight inside.
"No racoons, but something made that noise." Tom said.
The two began checking everything stored in the garage..tools...the lawnmower...big orange furball...spare auto parts
Big orange furball!
"Tom, check this out." Sonic said pointing.
Tom shone a light on it.
"That wasn't here earlier." Tom said.
Tom and Sonic both stared at the furball, was it just their imagination or was it trembling.
"Hello." Sonic said confused.
A pair of bright cyan eyes appeared blinking at the pair of them.
"Hey there." Sonic said.
The ball just stared at them blinking owishly.
Just then Sonic noticed the trembling.
"Hey, there's no need to be afraid." Sonic said.
There was suddenly a loud boom of thunder and the ball let out a squeak unfurling into what Tom thought looked looked like a young fox, it's orange fur and tails dripping wet and parts covered in a layer of mud.
Wait a second..tails.
It was just then both Tom and Sonic noticed the fox had two very wet and very fluffy looking tails.
Seeing how scared the fox seemed Tom knelt down.
"Hey bud, is the storm scaring you?" Tom asked feeling a surge of parental affection similar to when he first met Sonic.
The fox nodded letting out a small whimper.
"How about we take you inside and warm you up, you'll feel better there than in here." Tom said.
The fox shrunk back slightly as Tom beckoned towards him.
Sonic noticed and spoke up.
"Tom's a good guy kid, you can trust him." Sonic said reassuringly.
Seemingly reassured by Sonic's words the fox let Tom pick him up.
Tom grimmaced slightly at how wet and dirty the fox's fur felt, he was definitely gonna need a bath.
They quickly headed back to the house.
"Maddie you aren't going to believe what we've found." Tom said.
"What?" Maddie asked curiously looking over.
Tom gently set the Fox down on his feet and he gazed shyly up at Maddie.
Omg he's so adorable Maddie silently thought before kneeling down.
"Hi there sweetie." Maddie said.
"H-Hi." The fox said shyly.
"I'm Maddie, what's your name honey?" She asked.
"Ummm, Miles Ma'am." The fox said blushing nervously at the warm smile Maddie was giving him.
"It's nice to meet you Miles, I see you've already met Tom and Sonic." Maddie said.
Miles just nodded.
Maddie took in Miles' muddy and dripping wet form and looked at Tom.
"Tom, can you warm up a can of soup, Sonic can you warm up the heated blanket?" She asked and her husband and Sonic nodded.
Maddie looked at Miles.
"How's a nice warm bath sound Miles?" Maddie asked.
Miles was silent for a moment his tails swishing hesitantly behind him.
"That sounds nice Maddie, umm ma'am." Miles said.
"Just Maddie is fine honey." Maddie said.
"Okay, sorry Maddie." Miles said.
"No problem sweetie, let's let's you in the bath shall we." Maddie said holding out a hand.
Miles nodded and took it letting Maddie lead him upstairs.
They headed into the bathroom and she sat Miles down on the closed toilet lid while she ran the bath for him having him take off his gloves, socks and shoes as he waited.
He waited patiently and soon the bath was ready.
"Is it ready?" He asked looking at her.
"Yep, you want some help getting in?" Maddie asked.
Miles shyly nodded and Maddie gently picked him up and set him down in the tub.
Miles gasped in surprise at how warm the water was but after moment relaxed the heat making him feel much better.
Maddie got to work cleaning this fox's fur and even though Miles was slightly embarrassed she was doing it he couldn't deny it felt nice, plus the shampoo she was using smelt really nice.
Sonic soon dropped off a spare pair of socks and gloves for Miles telling them Miles' soup was ready and once she was done bathing him she gently lifted him out of the bathtub and dried him off, the kit giggling as the towel tickled him.
Maddie couldn't help but smile, it was such an adorable sound.
Miles tugged on the slightly too big socks and gloves.
"How's that honey?" Maddie asked.
"So much better, thank you Mrs Wach...umm Maddie." Miles said.
Maddie smiled.
"No problem sweetheart, no let's go downstairs." Maddie said.
Miles nodded and took Maddie's hand letting her lead him downstairs.
