The Last Dance

Rusty walked into the ball, his outfit was fitted to his body(he had no idea how Kol knew his measurements), and he went with the gold tux jacket with the black lapels.  The pop of gold really stood out against the rest of his all black outfit and made people turn to look at the new arrival.  Rusty was attractive, that was clear by the women oggling him, but he wasn't attractive in the tradition sense.  He had a boyish charm to him that made him seem trust worthy and pulled people in, and even though he had acne(he seemed to be the only person in town who did) it didn't take away from his attractiveness, in an odd way it actually made him more handsome.

All of this ran through Kol's mind when he saw his date for the night step through the door.  He had originally invited him to piss of Klaus, having noticed the two's close bond, but he had to admit he did find the boy very handsome and the glimpse he saw into the boy's powers the night before only served to excite the youngest original male.  He found Rusty captivating, how he had managed to become close friends with his brother and with how well he pulled off a suit.  So without a moments hesitation, Kol found himself walking to his date for the evening, fully planning to tell him just how good he looked in the clothes Kol had given him.

Kol came up to Rusty with a charming grin, "Well don't you look ravishing, darling.  Good enough to eat."  Rusty smiled at Kol's joke, amusing with the youngest Mikaelson son.

"Do be warned, I bite back," Rusty said as his arm looped through Kol's the two walking further into the room.

"I have no doubt about that, darling," Kol said, smiling at the younger boy.  Kol spotted the black haired man from last night, he was talking to the mayor and Kol had the urge to go and cause some trouble.  "Hmm, the mayor and the man from last night.  Why don't we go and introduce ourselves?"  Kol asked, mischief in his eyes that Rusty reflected.

"Sounds fun," Rusty said as they started to make their way towards the two.

"Mayor Lockwood, we haven't formerly met.  Kol Mikaelson," Kol greeted pleasantly, shaking her hand before bringing to back to his lips and placing a kiss on it.  "Hope your lovely town embraces us just as much as we plan to embrace it," Kol kept up with the pleasantries which Rusty found rather boring to be honest.

"Nice to meet you, Mayor Lockwood.  I'm Rusty Meagan, a friend of Klaus, I'm here to keep him in line," Rusty said with a fake pleasant smile, charming the Mayor.

"Damon Salvatore," The black haired vampire said, holding out a hand.  "Have we met?"

"I've met a lot of people, and you don't particulary stand out," Kol said not taking the offered hand and walking away with Rusty who gave the Mayor one last charming smile.

"Well aren't you nice?" Rusty said sarcastically and Kol shot the shorter boy a smile.

"You don't approve?" he asked teasingly and Rusty shrugged with a growing smile.

"Oh, I never said that," Rusty said back playfully before his best friend came up on his other side.

"Kol, trying to steal my best friend are you?" Klaus asked, giving Kol a glare while Rusty rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, no we are not playing that game," Rusty said pulling his arm from Kol's and walking away from the both of them.  Both brothers had their eyes on the young male as he walked away before Klaus shifted his gaze to Kol, who was still looking Rusty before looking to his older brother.

"You chased my date away, Nik," Kol said, his tone was light but beneath it he was slightly annoyed, beginning to enjoy the young warlocks company.

"Stay away from Rusty," Klaus growled at his brother, protective of his best friend.  Kol smiled maliciously at his older brother, leaning forward to say quietly to Klaus.

"And if I don't?"

"Well, I sure do hope you enjoyed your coffin, cause not even mother's whining will keep you from it," Klaus threatened his brother who mockingly widened his eyes in false fear.

"And what if your little friend doesn't like it?" Kol asked, raising his eyebrows.  Klaus glowered at the youngest Mikaelson male, his eyes flashing werewolf yellow.

"Oh I very much doubt Rusty will be swayed with your hollow charm," Klaus said.

"I take that as a challenge," Kol said with a large smirk.

"If you hurt him, Kol, I will keep you in a box longer than Finn was," Klaus said, though it only made Kol more attracted to Rusty.  Klaus smirked though and Kol got even more interested, "That's if Rusty doesn't kill you first."  Rusty suddenly seemed to reappear with them and grabbed the sides of Klaus's face, turning his head to see Caroline.

"Your Cinderella's here, now go prince charming and woo her!"  Rusty said, shoving Klaus towards his date.  Kol laughed at Rusty's actions, smiling fondly at the warlock who smiled back at him.

"How many dagger threats did he make?" Rusty asked, well aware of his best friend's behavior.

"Not as many as I expected," Kol said and Rusty looked a tiny bit surprised.

"I don't know whether to be offended or relieved.  Nope don't like you enough, offended," Rusty said, sounding semi-serious.

"I'm hurt darling," Kol said with a teasing smile, "and here I though we were getting along."  Rusty simply shrugged and gave Kol a playful smile as Elijah calls the family together.

"Uh, if everyone could gather please," Elijah calls out, demanding the attention of the room.  Rusty follows the crowd to the staircase where the entire family stood.  Kol downed his glass of champagne looking sadly at the now empty glass as Elijah continues to speak.  "Welcome, thank you for joining us.  You know whenever my mother brings our family together like this it's tradition for us to commence the evening with a dance.  Tonight's pick is a centuries old waltz, so if all of you could please find yourself a partner, please join us in the ballroom."  Just as he expected, Kol was quick to find Rusty and offer the younger man his arm.

"Dance with me, darling?" Kol asked and Rusty slid his arm through his date's.

"It is tradition," Rusty said.  Kol and Rusty were surprising not the only same gendered couple on the dance floor.  On old instinct, Rusty took up the part of the female, while Kol lead.  Rusty smiled when he saw Klaus dancing with Caroline, happy for his friend.

"You really care about him," Kol said, sounding surprised as he watched the real happiness light up the boy's face.  "Why?  He, like the rest of our family, is a monster."

Rusty looked at him, his eyes missing the sarcastic glint they had all night and instead looked very genuine and honest.  "You're not monsters Kol.  I have found that vampires are more human than anything else.  You feel so much more than any human but have to bottle it up, you are called monsters because of your actions but humans commit monstrosities just as well.  It is not vampires who wage wars or bomb countries.  You feel so much that you lash out, and you must do terrible things to survive and after a while the only way to live with the guilt is to enjoy the horrible actions so the guilt goes away," Rusty said and Kol looked at him wide eyed.

"You continue to surprise me, little witch," Kol said, his voice kinder than it had been all night.  It got to the part of the spin but much to surprise of Rusty, Kol didn't let him go.  Instead he spun him right back into his arms, causing the younger boy to gasp while Kol smiles at him.

"You know this is the part where you let me go," Rusty said, in reference to the partner switch.

"Well maybe I didn't want to," Kol said with a smile, starring into Rusty's eyes who smiles back.

"You continue to surprise me, Koala," Rusty said, giving Kol a nickname that made the Original smile.

"Koala, really?" He said, his nose scrunching up in a way that Rusty refused to call adorable (though he thought it was).

"I think it's cute," Rusty said back with a teasing grin, the fire behind his eyes back, Kol refused to say he liked that fire (though he really did).  Rusty leaned up and whispered into Kol's ear, "Or is there something else you would like me to call you?"  A shiver ran down Kol's back and Rusty leaned away, getting the reaction he wanted out of Kol who looked shocked yet his eyes had darkened when they Rusty's again.  Rusty knew that Kol most likely only invited him to be his date to get under Klaus's skin, so he felt that small bit of payback was deserved.  Rusty didn't like being used.

Rusty pulled away from Kol, the dance now over and walked towards the door.  Kol grabbed his arm, looking at him with interest, "Where are you going?"

Rusty looked back at Kol, "I have a ritual I have to do tonight, plus a cat to feed.  I'm sure you can continue the night without me."  Rusty suddenly turned his body and walked closer to Kol.  "By the way," Rusty trailed off before stomping the heel of his shoe onto Kol's toes, breaking many of them and causing him to hiss, "never use me as a way to make Klaus angry again."  Rusty took his heel off of Kol's foot and turned around and walked away from his date for the evening.  Kol stared after the black haired boy with awe, strangely enough, he found himself impressed by the way Rusty figured out why he invited him, though he didn't even realize that Kol actually did have an attraction to the boy.  Kol found himself only more attracted to the boy as the night continued.

Rusty walked into his house, kicking off his shoes and shouldering his jacket off, throwing it on the couch along with his tie, which he took off in the car.  Rusty had a ritual to do, one he didn't particulary like doing.  The ritual allowed him to see the future, more specifically threats.  He did it to stay ahead of all of Klaus's enemies.  He went to his witch room, it was the largest in the house and hidden.  You had to tilt a certain picture to get to it, the picture was a normal sized one and was of Klaus and Rusty at Tokyo, Klaus had taken him one summer after Rusty admitted to liking the fashion and language.

Rusty titled the mirror and walked into the room.  The ritual was already set up, he prepared before he left for the ball.  Rusty shut the door behind him and walked into the middle of the pre-prepared ritual drawing he had made out of the ashes of bones.  He held his hand up while he kneeled in the drawing, and a cage holding a python levitated towards him.  The snake was violent hissing and biting at the bars of the cage.  Rusty opened the top of the cage and grabbed the neck of the snake that tried to lunge and bite him.  The snake was stuck with it's fangs out and mouth open.  The tail trashed as Rusty picked up a blade he had next to him, muttering a spell under his breathe to take away the creatures pain as he cut down it's stomach.  The snake died and Rusty lied it down, mixing the ingrediants he needed from it together in the bowl he had placed in front of him.  He had the rest of the ingrediants already in, but he needed the fresh organs of the snake for the spell so he had to do it now.

He mixed it all together and glared down at it before bringing the bowl to his lips and starting to drink it.  He had long since stopped gagging at the taste though it never got any better and continued to drink it.  He tried to forget that the snake's eye was in it but that was always the worst part for him.  Once he downed it he placed it back down and started to chant the spell.  His words slipped together, his speech almost impossible to follow at his fast speaking.

After chanting for a minute his eyes had turned white and suddenly his breathe hitched, his chanting halting as his head was whipped back, his eyes opened to reveal the pure white.  His chanting picked up at a faster rate and was just mumbles under his breathe before it completely stopped as his back bended unnaturally and a gasp came out of him, his eyes closed as images flash through his skull and you could see his eyes moving behind the lids that hid them.

Flashes of a tree made of blood connecting the names of the original siblings, the two Bennett witches, Elena in a tunnel, Kol daggered, Finn and Esther, and Kol and him flash through his head before he lets out a loud gasp.  His body goes limp and falls back, the boy knocked out.
