War & Peace [Studies on Humanity, Part III]

Imagine all the people living life in peace ~ John Lennon

Borders should be between countries, but never between people~ my wonderful friend Kate

While studying history, I couldn't help but wonder : "Will this world ever know peace?"
The borders on our maps, they are lines of blood, craved inside a gravestone. Yet, we don't let the dead sleep, but bring the back alive whenever it's useful for our political agenda. We tell stories of the past then, but only the ones that fit. The ones with the heroes in shining amor and  the glorious victories. The crying mothers, fallen soldiers and destroyed towns are just disturbing the picture. They shall not be mentioned, and if, only to show how bad our enemies are. Because that's something obvious and clear : We are the good ones in this. Who is different, and even dares to say so, is evil. Must be evil. It's only a logical conclusion.
We are the heroes, so they are the villians.
Our soldiers are saviours  that bring freedom, their fighters are monsters, killing for the sake of blood.
We have a free press, they spread twisted propaganda.
Our president is a true representative of the people, their leader a dictator seeking power.
We only protect what's ours, they started the war to conquer and oppress.
Our God will help bringing the victory, their God isn't even real.

Of course, if you went to the other side and asked the people there, they would tell you exactly the same. Only the other way around. But you don't go to the other side, do you? You don't want to appear like a traitor who bonds with the enemy. No, it's better to stay where you belong. We humans are great fans of borders. And walls. Not only between countries, also between different groups of people. Not on the map, but in our heads and hearts. Someone has a different ethnic background? Sure they rather want to stay with 'their' people. Boom, border drawn. Someone has a different believe? Sure they must be fanatics who want your death. Boom, border built.  Someone loves different than you do? Sure they have no morals. Boom, fence lifted.
And of course the fact remains that you can be the only 'good' one in this.
What's different must be evil, so you keep your walls up. Eyes closed, but always ready to fight if someone attacks. Because it is, of course only a matter of time until all those villans unmask themselves to show their true nature.
Absurd, isn't it? Like this, we came to live in a world full of walls and fences, with 8 billion glorious heroes, who are the most rotten villains in someone else's eyes at the same time.
Too many ticking bombs, just waiting to go off and bring us war, hatred and death once again. Peace ? Not in this world.
We would have to tear down the walls.  But we are too afraidof the different ones. The enemies. If we only could understand that different wouldn't have to mean evil, it would already be a big step a ahead. And how we could learn from each other. Then we wouldn't need our walls, fences and borders anymore.
We could break them down together and built a big house out of the remainings,  a house to live in for all of us, a house where no one would have to 'keep out'. A house which's walls we could paint in all colours of the world, and in which's hallways children could play. Children of peace, that would grow up without knowing the meaning of war, hatred and fear.
Then, we could finally let the dead be the dead, their suffering unforgotten, but forgiven, and plant flowers on graves. So that they shall grow, in all shapes and colours, to remind us how beautiful differences are.

~Sorry not sorry for this stupid essay. If you don't like it, go complain to my history teacher, because studying for the exam made me think of this.  And to your local politican. And to actually the ignorant  majority of humanity. [BECAUSE I AM LITERALLY SO MAD AT HUMANS CURRENTLY!]
If you like it (Which I don't really expect) please let me know!
Stay human,
Sero 💚~
