Thought I had while doing my history homework [by fall out brain]
"Always be sceptical when someone else tells you who your enemies are supposed to be. It's likely that the greatest danger around is them themselves."
What I do find seriously frightening is the fact that, if we would have only be born 100 years earlier, me and some of my closest friends would be enemies. Simply since we are from different countries. We, who have the most fun together, who write each other post cards and sent each other Christmas presents, would be wishing each other death. It's something that just won't fit together in my brain, and I somehow struggle to believe it. Yet it's the most likely thing. My great grandfather literally died to kill to the great grandparents of my friends. He if he and all of his colleagues, would have succeeded with their plans, my friends would not be alive today. It's so sick what humans are capable of doing to each other. And how easy we are to manipulate after all. How easy we start to hate each other.
Today I can sit here and judge my great grandfather together with his whole generation while studying history and texting my friend from Belarus. But if I had lived back then....who knows if I would not have just done the same? This question honestly scares me, but even more the answer to it which I want to know so bad and never at the same time.
I know it's actually useless to ask this. It doesn't matter what I would have done. It doesn't help anyone, and it doesn't change the past. What matters is the present. Not the 'What would I have done?" but the "What can I do?"
They say we can learn from the past to improve the future. I hope we actually can, I hope I can. One of the things I want last is to become a puppet on a string that directs her hate towards others that could be her friends if the border on the map would just be a few centimeters diffrent. That legitimates the loss of innocent lives with a blindly accepted ideology and just chants what everyone is chanting. That forgets how to use her own mind. No. If that would ever be the chase, you can declare me dead. The person who I am now would be gone anyway.
I don't see any difference big enough for humans to kill each other, and I wouldn't want to miss any of my wonderful friends simply because they were born between diffrent lines on the map than I was. The fact we would have hated each other simply because of that remains scary- but the fact that we don't today contains a little spark of hope in my opinion.
-A/N and it's a trash.....are you readers okay with personal rants like that ? Or should I just delete it and we don't talk about it again ?
Stay human,
