7: Let's Say I Found a Couple Of Boy friends

I'm thinking of how many chapters this book should have. Sixty's fair enough right?

❤You can spend minutes, hours, days, weeks, even months analyzing a situation, trying to put the pieces together. Justifying what could’ve, should’ve, would’ve happened. Or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move on ❤

'Let's Say I Found a Couple of Boy friends'

When I returned to my own house from Charlie's after he dropped me off, I savoured the feeling of emptiness hovering above the house. My parents were at work, Blake hadn't returned from the trip he took to Canada for a seminar.

I glimpsed a familiar dark-brown haired individual sitting on one of the couches, my favourite one for that matter.

"What are you doing here? Who let you in?" I demanded sharply. Shawn turned to glance at me with a soft expression. No, I wasn't falling for that.

"I did." Another voice chirped in. My eyes strayed to the stairs and found my brother standing there with a full-blown grin on his face.

I smiled and ran to him, forgetting all about my bestfriend. "Blake! When did you return?"

"Today, duh." He stretched out his arm and I jumped on him, wrapping my legs around his waist. Hands around his neck, I showered his face with innocent kisses.

I had missed this excuse of a brother, the one that always teased me, the one that always fought with me over little things like cookies. The king of pranks who had filled my hairdryer with flour once. I missed him so much.

"What the hell! Haze, you weigh a ton, what have you been eating?"

There, the idiot has returned.

He laughed as I glared at him. "Idiot, I missed you so much."

When his eyes trailed off, I remembered Shawn and every single bit of thrill in me faded.

Blake noticed too. "Wasn't I supposed to let your friend in?" He asked as I climbed down from his body.

"No-" I cast a wary gaze at Shawn who bore a guilty look. Yeah, he better be sorry.

Blake made a sound in his throat. "Well, whatever your issues are, I'll let you talk it out, probably get some-"

"You better not finish that line." I warned, watching him chuckle and head back upstairs.

I walked back to sit beside my best friend. "Talk."

He glanced at me, a sad tinge in his eyes. "I'm sorry, Haze."

I clicked my tongue. "Sorry? That's it? Sorry?"

He had another think coming if he just thinks a casually stated apology would do.

"Hazel, I don't know how else to put this but I'm terribly sorry, okay? I thought about what I said to you, and it made me feel like a fool."

Of course you are.  I don't say that out loud though.

He fidgeted on the sofa like a kid, a habit we both engaged when we get nervous.

Looking at his face even though his eyes were lowered, I saw how genuinely sorry he seemed.

"You're going to forgive me right?" His eyes met mine suddenly, almost catching me staring.

I scoffed and flipped my hair before sitting next to him. "Do I have a choice? Move a bit you idiot."

He was taken a little aback at the casualness of my voice. My bestfriend probably expected me to rant and rave like a mad woman or throw objects at him. Nah, I wasn't like that. Well, basically I was still angry but then, I couldn't remain angry with him for so long, besides, Shawn never acted drastically unless there was a sort of trigger, something must have compelled him to.

"Aren't you going to yell at me or something? Because I came mentally prepared." Shawn stated.

I smiled and laid a hand on his shoulder. His eyes went to my hand before returning to my face. "Shawn, you and me have been best friends for over eight years, three days and fifteen minutes," He raised a brow at my calculations but says nothing. "We know each other like the insides of our palms plus you've never yelled at me before so I  figured something must have gone wrong. Tell me what happened."

Shawn cradled my fingers in his. "Bri and I broke up."

"What? How? I mean, what happened? " My voice matched with  the shock I got. Brianna and Shawn were like the perfect couple in school, always doing things together and all those sappy love stuff.

"She cheated on me with Cedric." Shawn's voice was surprisingly calm but the icy look in his eyes told me he was anything but calm. Cedric was a member of the school football team. He was a master player, he played good with the ball and played with girls' hearts too. Cliché, I know.

"Why would she do that? Cedric of all people?" I couldn't control the snort that left my nose.

"Hazel, don't stress it. I'm over her anyways."

Of course you would.

I wanted to argue over his theory but then my phone buzzed like it was possessed. What!

When I gazed into my device, I found that I was on a group chat with the boys.

Chadz: It's football, not soccer (8:50 a.m)

Seriously, of all the topics they could argue about.

Detective Bradley: Soccer you idiot (8:51a.m)

Chadz: Football's the right maybe, look it up on Google. (8:51a.m)

I snickered at Chad's typo and typed out a message.

hAzE: It's Soccer, Chad. btw why am I on this group chat? (8:52a.m)

"What's wrong?" Shawn asked, glancing suspiciously into my phone.

I shrugged. "It's just this stupid group chat Chad created for us."

"Chad? Us?" I nearly tittered at the befuddled expression on my best friend's face. I couldn't blame him though. We hadn't been spending time with each other in a while and have missed out on a couple of things happening in our lives.

"Let's say I found a couple of boyfriends." I watched as Shawn's brows lifted.

"How many guys are we talking about here?"

"Five."

Shawn's eyes grew bigger as he scooted away from me like I was hot coal.

"Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?"

I raised a brow. "What do you mean by that?"

Shawn scowled. "Boyfriend, understandable, but boy friends, that's unimaginable. How do you even cope?"

I laughed, realizing he was thinking the opposite of what I intended. I can't imagine myself doing the dirty with five different guys at one. I mean, what the heck?

"Shawn, they're my friends, not in the way you think." I reassured him, catching the dark cloud that left his face.

"That's better. When are we hanging out with them? I need to know what's going on."

I smirked at his overprotective-ness and unlocked my phone. "I believe a meeting can be arranged." Going straight to the group chat, over forty messages awaited me, I didn't bother scrolling upwards to see how their dispute earlier ended.

Shawn leaned on my shoulder, glancing at my phone while I deleted the random memes Chad and Winston sent.

hAzE: what the heck guys. Seriously? Over a forty messages.  Where's Charlie though?

Charlie was just like the buffer to the guys.

Detective Bradley: he went out with his girlfriend Sandy. I hate her. (9:30a.m)

hAzE: that's an uncool thing to type. (9:30a.m)

Winston was really frank with his words but I wasn't about to ask him why he hated Charlie's girlfriend, whoever that is.

Chadz: living up to your name aren't you, d*ckhead?

Shawn sniggered on my shoulder, distracting my fingers from typing on the keypad. I elbowed him hard and heard him groan.

hAzE: remember the no swearing rules. (9:31a.m)

Chadz: your rules don't exist in this group chat, don't forget that honey. (9:33a.m)

I cringed at the endearment instead of the insult Chad threw at me. Shawn's body was quaking as he tried to hold in his laughter.

hAzE: btw pals, I'm bringing someone over to our hangout (9:34a.m)

Shawn snorted. "Wait, you guys even have a hangout?"

I nodded, watching my phone screen for new messages. "Uh-huh. Golden Gate, you know there?"

"Of course. I've been there more than I can count." Shawn replied, curling his fingers around a wad of my hair.

Way to be a jerk. Shawn's demeanor told me he wasn't pleased knowing that I found new friends while he was away. What did he suppose I do? Just sit alone everyday and fawn over him? Not happening in a billion years. I can never fawn over this idiot here.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" He demanded as I shook my thoughts away.

I scoffed. "Me stare at you? Yeah right."

Shawn waggled his brows with a smirk on his lips. "Admit it, I'm hot."

Rolling my eyes, I ignored his vain display of ego and diverted my eyes to my phone.

Detective Bradley: Ooooh, a girl? (9:37a.m)

Chadz: perv (9:37a.m)

Seriously these guys didn't have anything good to do other than sit with their phones?

hAzE: no, a guy, my bestfriend (9:38a.m)

Chadz: 😭 I thought we were your only freinds... (9:38a.m)

Detective Bradley: Friends, not freinds dunce (9:39a.m)

Just as a torrent of words popped up on my screen, I switched off my data connection and turned to Shawn, folding one of my legs on the sofa with the other touching the grey rug beneath us.

"They're queer." Shawn commented with his blue eyes fixated on me.

"I know. Now, tell me all the stuff I missed."

Shawn copied my sitting position, facing me with a wide grin. "It's been hell without my best friend."

Now you're talking.

I sighed dreamily. "Tell me about it..."
