27:I've Been Kissing Your Best Friend

Sorry for my unavoidable long absence from Wattpad, I needed complete seclusion from everything, but now I'm back, hopefully. I'm not certain of a fixed update schedule yet but I'll try to update regularly.

'I've Been Kissing Your Best Friend'

"So, you mean to tell me that you kissed your boyfriend's best friend." Tris spoke with her eyes wide open in excitement. Her hair danced around  her shoulders as she moved her head.

I looked around to see if anyone was eavesdropping. Apparently, the people around us were drinking their hearts out and wouldn't be bothered to listen to my boy problems.

"I believe that's what I said...can you keep your voice low?"

"How did it happen? Tell me."

My cheeks heated up as I remembered everything. "So, we were arguing over a TV show and when I couldn't keep up with the argument, I went to the kitchen. That's where I fell off a stool and  Sebastian had to carry me to my room..."

"Like a baby?"

"Would you stop interrupting me?"

Tris rolled her eyes and made a gesture for me to continue.

"So, that's what happened. I don't know what to do, I'm confused." I buried my face in my palms as I looked for a way out of the sticky mess I found myself in.

"Florence..." Tris touched my head lightly, making me look up at her.

"You need a break girl. It'll help clear your head a little bit. You've gone through a lot and doing nothing to relieve your nerves would be bad for you. Go on a vacation to somewhere, England, Spain, Paris or anywhere else. You need it."

I took a swig of the liquid before me. It burned my throat slightly before gliding down into my stomach.

"I can't  just leave my mom and sister alone." I protested weakly and stared the gleaming liquid in the cup before me. Tris threw her head backwards as she downed the alcohol in her cup.

"I never knew you to be a drinker."

She narrowed her eyes and demanded for a fresh round of alcoholic drinks.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

I ignored the irritated look on her face. "You have always been an uptight person. I mean, look at your glasses and...ow! "

My statement was cut short when Tris scratched my face with her long nails. My present fear was that her nails had made an unpleasant long line on my face. This was just a lesson never to mess with Tris whenever we hang out next time at a bar.

"Oops! Sorry!" She let out a large burp and patted her stomach.

"Ew...that's nasty." I cringed as a repulsive stench hit my nose. I pinched my nose in order to block out the smell. Tris only had a wide grin on her face as I twisted my face in displeasure. "You're so disgusting."

Tris let out a wild cackle."But you're hanging out with me, that makes you disgusting too. Bottoms up, girl, forget your sorrow."

And so, my sorrows were temporarily forgotten as I gulped in glass after glass of alcohol till I couldn't count again.

After consuming fairly large amounts of alcohol, Tris and I stumbled  out of bar at ten o'clock in the night. Tris hailed a cab and left me to my fate.

Wasted as I was, I managed to hold on to a metallic pole so I wouldn't fall. Staring around me,  I was instantly filled with fear due to the darkness around me. The only source of light was that coming from the bar and that was a few feet from me.

I felt my bag for my phone and turned on the display. It brightened a small space around me and for awhile I feared that a thug would spring up somewhere and snatch my phone from me. Despite my fears, I dialed the first number I saw on the screen even if the numbers and letters were swimming around the screen.

"Florence?" The last voice I wanted to hear spoke into my ears making me regret why I dialed his number in the first place. The subconscious state of mind I was in, didn't allow me to wallow in regret.

"Seb, I need... you to... pick me up."  I spoke in the best voice I could summon.

Sebastian remained silent for a long while till I feared he hung up on me.

"Florence, are you drunk?"

"Does it mattur?" I mentally cringed at the words that left my mouth.

"Where are you?"

I don't know how long we spent talking or when a car drove up to me, because the last thing I remembered was falling into the safety of someone's arms.

I opened my eyes slowly and glanced around me. The first conclusion I made was that I wasn't in my room. The sheets beneath me weren't as soft as mine and the ceiling above my head was nothing like mine.

Ignoring the painful thump taking place in my head, I climbed out of the bed and took a look at my body. I was still in the same clothes I wore last night. But it didn't help abate the fear that maybe I had hooked up with a stranger.

I inwardly vowed to strangle Tris the next time I saw her. But I wouldn't want to get involved in a murder case, so, that's out of the list. Nevertheless, I'll attack her verbally anyways.

My phone rang out and I located it on a sofa positioned at the farther end of the room.

Immediately I picked the call, my sister's chatty voice came at me. "Florence, where are you? Are you alright? What..."

I heaved and picked up my bag. "I'm perfectly alright, I just ended up in a place I shouldn't have been."

"Come home immediately, please?"

"Alright, don't worry about me, I'm completely fine."

Just as she hung up, the door to the room was open and Stephen, Sebastian's twin, walked in. Even though I haven't spent as much time with him, I could still tell he wasn't Sebastian.

He was dressed in black sweatpants and a matching sweater over it.

"Hi Stephen."

He grinned at me. "I take it you slept well."

I nodded with a faint smile. "I did."

"No hangover or anything?" He asked with his brows raised in bewilderment.

It was my turn to be confused. "Hangover?"

Stephen nodded and walked towards the curtains. "Seb brought you in last night and my, you were a sight to see." He pulled the curtains apart and a steady gleam of daylight streamed into the room.

I dropped my bag on the bed. "I'm sorry you had to see me like that."

"Seriously? I could never get tired of seeing you like that. Do you always behave like a..."

I glared at him and that shut him up. "How do I get out of here?"

"Through the door." He made a gesture with his hands directing me to the door.

"Idiot, I meant how am I supposed to get back home?" I replied and marched towards the door with my belongings.

Stephen let out a chuckle. "Follow me." He pushed past me and headed out of the room. I grunted and trailed behind him, taking time to notice everything around me.

The house was a simple apartment, devoid of the luxuries mom's house possessed. The dining room which we bypassed consisted of a bare, polished wooden table with six identical wooden chairs facing it. The living room was furnished with three to four sofas, a little blue rug in the middle and the electronics were arranged in an orderly fashion.

Despite the plainness of the house, I marveled at the surprising neatness of the apartment.

Stephen and I walked out of the house and we covered some more distance away from the house till we got to a bus stop.

"You take a bus from here."  Stephen adjusted his sweatshirt which had become improperly placed on his body.

I regarded the little activity going on around me. "Thanks. By the way, where's your brother, I should have thanked him."

Well, I was lying. To be truthful, I didn't want to see Sebastian's face at all. It'll only increase the awkwardness between us.

"He's at work. I'll pass your thanks to him."

My phone started ringing before I could offer Stephen a reply. I apologized to him with my eyes and he nodded as I accepted the call.

"Hey Jewel." My boyfriend's voice strolled into my ears.

"Hey."

"Well, you suddenly went MIA. Where have you been?"

I've been kissing your best friend, that's where I've been.

"I've been here...call me a little later, I'm about to catch a bus."

When the last three words left my mouth, I mentally jumped down a cliff. Now, I would have to explain to my boyfriend why I'm about to board a bus. That would not be a good idea at all.

"Alright."

I heard a rustle of papers as Philip dropped the call.

"I'm sorry about that."

Stephen rolled his eyes at me. I remembered that he clearly demonstrated his annoyance when I apologized earlier.

"Sorry..." I halted when I realized that I just apologized again. We locked out eyes together and after a few seconds, we burst into laughter simultaneously which made some of the pedestrians fling their irritated faces at us.

I boarded a bus shortly after this and headed home with my thoughts filling up every inch of my mind.

Thoughts about telling my boyfriend what I did.

It shouldn't be hard, right?
