"You are under arrest for the murder of Mr. Gregory."

I stared at the police officer with my mouth hanging open. Confusion enveloped my mind as I took in the words of the officer. His colleague standing next to him looked less friendly than he did. He looked ready to drag me out at the slightest prompt.

"Hold on there, who's Gregory? And how did I kill him?" My questions sounded stupid but they were questions anyways and I hoped to get some answers.

Who was this Mr. Gregory that I had killed? How could I have killed him when a few minutes ago I was just on my sofa watching a movie with a bowl of chips balanced on my thighs?

"We believe you'll have answers to our questions, come with us to the police station."

I shook my head and took a step back. "Nah, I'll pass."

His colleague moved towards me like a towering mountain. "That's not a plea, it's an order." Before I say any additional words, my wrists were trapped in a handcuff and I was dragged out of my house like a filthy rag.

I sat upright in my bed, breathing heavily. My gaze went to the clock on the wall opposite me. 6:00a.m.

What the heck?

I pondered over the strange dream I just had for over ten minutes and after concluding that it was probably one of those dreams normal people had, I erased the dream from my head and focused on preparing for school.

I made a trip to the bathroom and did my business there. After wrapping a towel around my thoroughly cleaned body, I stepped into my room just about the same time as my brother, Blake did.

"Couldn't you at least knock or something?" I chided him. He ignored me and plopped down on my bed.

He recently finished college and currently, he was working for a publishing company. At the same time, he was a renowned writer, well known for his ability to capture the hearts of his readers. I had a lot of his books stashed away in my book cabinet and I read them whenever I had the chance to.

He grinned and crossed his legs. "I came to watch you dress."

I frowned. "Pervert."

"Shawn arrived a few minutes ago, he's downstairs."

I smiled and walked to my closet. Shawn was my childhood friend, very annoying, but he had all one could wish for in friend. Must I add, we attended the same school, Same High School and we had almost all our classes together.

I pulled out a high-waist blue jean trouser and a white crop top. "Does that guy even sleep?" I looked at the clock which just struck seven a.m.

"Even if he arrives here by eight, you'll still complain. What a lazy sister you are." My brother gave me a toothy smile. I smirked and threw one of my shoes at him.

"If you'd excuse me, I need to get dressed." I ignored the scowl on my brother's face and pulled on my jean trouser whilst still clinging onto the towel.

Blake was about making a comment when my room door was forced open. Shawn's eyes darted straight to me and I turned around quickly as my cheeks heated up with embarrassment.

"Why didn't you knock Shawnee?" I demanded and stared down at the crop top in my hand.

"Stop calling me Shawnee." My friend grumbled.

"It suits you, Shawn, Shawnee. Aww..." Blake cooed.

I was getting uncomfortable with the presence of two guys in my room.

"Would the both of you just get out of my room already?" I huffed and stamped my right foot on the floor.

The two guys silently made their way out of my room and I sighed before putting on the rest of my attire.

I put my gold-coloured hair in a neat bun and dabbed my face with a modest amount of white powder.

I headed to the kitchen to meet Blake and Shawn already seated at the kitchen island with plates of food before them.

Annoyed that they started eating before me, I carried my plate to a secluded corner and consumed the slices of toast and eggs, complimenting them with a cup of hot chocolate drink.

"Hazel, could you get me a cube of sugar." My best friend called out while I washed the empty ceramics in the sink.

"No." I stated bluntly, not bothering to look back at Shawn.

"Pretty please, with pizza on top."

"Get it yourself."

I dried the ceramics and stored them in the cabinet above my head.

Shawn wolf-whistled. "Nice booty, babe."

Irritated, I turned to him and hurled the napkin at him. It somehow ended up in his mouth. Shawn spluttered and rushed to the sink. He rinsed his mouth with sufficient water and turned to me.

"You're such a witch."

"Yes, I know, Shawnee. Can we go to school now?" I picked up our bags from the floor and gave my brother a peck on his cheek.

"See you later Hazel."

Shawn and I hurried outside the house while still bickering.

"Where's your car?" I demanded when his Toyota car was nowhere in sight. When he kept mute, I turned to him for an answer.

He rubbed his palm together. "I've decided...that we are taking the bus today."

I blinked. We were already running late for school.

"What!!! Shawnee..." I whined and ran to the road like I expected a car to appear with a magic lady just like in Sixteen Wishes.

Shawn appeared beside me and checked his wrist watch. "The bus should be here anytime."

I grunted. "You're the worst friend ever."

"You didn't say that when you threw up all over me at Ryder's birthday party."

I facepalmed. Trust my friend to fling all my embarrassing moments right at me. So, you're wondering who Ryder is. Well, Ryder belongs to the popular crowd at school, and my best friend being related to him in a way got invited and I got an invitation because Shawn was invited.

"Could you not bring that up?" The school bus stopped in front of us and I pumped my fist in the air jubilantly before jumping in with Shawn behind me.

As we took our seat at the back end of the bus, I wondered why the students avoided the back seat like there were demons with pointy tails and sharp horns there, they preferred standing to sitting there. Well, their loss because it afforded me privacy with my best friend.

"So, how was your weekend?" I demanded, itching to find out what he did over the weekend. Well, his parents were quite wealthy and weekends with them are never short of fun. If they weren't throwing a party, they'd be travelling to different spectacular destinations or doing other fun stuff.

Shawn smiled and wrapped his hand around my shoulder. "I thought you'd never ask...well, I didn't go anywhere fun, Allie fell sick."

Allie was his five year old sister. She was really beautiful and smart for her age. Hearing about her ill health made me uneasy.

"I'm so sorry to hear that." I stood up just as we arrived at school.

"You don't need to be, she's already back to her normal self, you know her, all hyperactive."

"Yeah, she really is hyperactive." I agreed as we moved out of the bus and headed to our lockers which were practically next to each other.

"Haven't heard from your girlfriend-" I smirked when Brianna came into view. Shawn hadn't noticed her yet because he had his back to her.

She was dressed in her usual manner, crazy jean trousers that stopped at her thigh and a white T-shirt draped over it.

"Sugar pie." She called out. Shawn smiled and turned around. He wrapped an arm around her waist and placed a short kiss on her lips.

"Hey beautiful."

I rolled my eyes as he began whispering some words into her ears. I picked out the books I'd be needing for my Maths class and sashayed away from the love birds. The hallways were really occupied with students of all form, colors and shapes, so I had a tough time pushing my way through the towering basketball players, the really nice cheerleaders-note the sarcasm- the nerds and the other members of Same High School.

I stumbled into my class and breathed deeply, hoping to get back my breath. Shawn got in just as the same time as I did and I frowned. Does he have super powers or something?

I sat in my seat and smiled at Chad, my seat mate. "How do you do that? I mean, the hallways were filled."

Shawn winked at me and did not say anything because Mrs Mary just walked in with her usual dose of excessive confidence.

"Settle down everyone, we're having a test right now."

"Seriously?"

"I got to pee."

"I lost my math exercise book."

"Ben, we're gonna fail."

Shawn and I exchanged looks and we grinned because we were actually prepared for the test.
