CHAPTER 55- TRAGEDY

One week later,

Miara had shifted to her parents' home but she and Fawaz had always been in contact. At nights Fawaz had to console Miara over the phone as she sobbed talking about her father's worsening condition.

One day, he worked in his cabin when his phone ranged. He glanced at his phone, he frowned seeing his home landline number flash on the screen. He wondered why his mother called at work, her phone calls had stopped five years ago.

'Hello?' he answered. His heart beat increased on hearing her sobs from the other side. He panicked. He opened his mouth to ask his mother what was wrong but she spoke before him.

'Beta.... Miara...her father passed away.'

Fawaz felt numb, everything going blank for him. He hurried from his work, he should be with Miara now. She needed him the most, for now, she must be shattered. As he made his way through the lobby he noticed a woman standing next to the receptionist her back facing him. He looked at her for split seconds before rushing towards the exit.

The woman turned and they accidentally dash. Before she could fall he grabbed her waist.

'I am sorry, Miss...' he stopped mid-sentence, his mouth fell open

'Maha' he gasped.

His eyes stared at her large hazel orbs, she looked at him not surprised at all. Fawaz couldn't believe she is actually here in front of him. They straightened up

'You here?' Fawaz asked her as she adjusted her pink peplum dress, he pinched his wrist to make sure if he is dreaming.

She looked at him and nodded, 'I have come here to...' she said looking away.

'Where are the kids?' he interrupted. He felt restless to meet his children too.

'In the car' she said still not looking at him

'You came here with?' he asked, a smile on his lips.

'I am here with the driver' she said looking at him, he smiled at her and then suddenly remembered why he was hurrying in the first place.

He smacked his forehead 'I need to go, I will come meet you at your home tonight...promise.' he said, Maha looked at him cluelessly.

'Where are you going? Should I drop you?' she asked sounding concerned. Fawaz shook his head and hurriedly leaves.

Fawaz hurriedly drove to Miara's home. She is shattered beyond repairs, she kept blaming herself for her father's untimely demise. Fawaz tried his best to console her but she was inconsolable, she had decided to stay back with her mother for few days as per Fawaz's advice.

*************************

That night when everyone has been asleep, Fawaz decides to go and meet Maha. He knows only she will be able to console him.

He took his car and drove towards her bungalow, he didn't want to disturb anyone in her house perhaps the kids and Tasneem might be asleep.

Fawaz quietly climbed the pipeline leading towards her room, he knew this route very well now. He peeped in and found her room dimly lit, he knocked the window pane.

Minutes later he saw Maha walking towards the window, she squinted her eyes on noticing Fawaz she opened the window and helped him climb inside. He stood up looking at her, she wore a simple white and red kurtha and pyjama.

'You are awake?' he asked surprised.

She nodded her head, 'Majid and Faheem have slept just now, they kept me awake.' she said. Fawaz turned his head and looked at his two beautiful kids sleeping peacefully

'They were very excited to meet you' Maha said looking him while he looked at his kids. He smiled and then turned his head looking at her

'You told them about me?' he asked feeling hopeful

'No...they will need some time to accept that you are their father' she said

'Kiah...?' Fawaz asked surprised that she finally accepted.

Maha looked at him 'Maha' she accepted and Fawaz sighed in relief, he is thankful that she isn't pretending anymore.

'You have forgiven me?' he asked feeling hopeful again, she looked at him and then shook her head breaking Fawaz's heart.

'I have come here to give you another chance...I don't want to take any decision in haste' she said. Fawaz smiled at her gratefully, he is glad she is giving him a second chance and he is planning to use it to its fullest, but then Miara? She is going through tough phase in her life and she needs him...

'Maha...Miara's father passed away today' he said looking at her.

Maha simply nodded her head, 'I know what you are trying to say' she said dryly and Fawaz felt relieved on knowing she is being understanding but then she dropped the bomb

'You have chosen her over me again...over my kids too, this time' she said looking away. Fawaz shook his head.

'No, Maha...please don't get me wrong...it's just that Miara needs me now that she is going through such a phase in her life, she has lost her father and...who better than you will know what she is going through (Fawaz held her shoulder with one hand and with the other he placed his fingers under her chin making her look at him) Maha...I love you...I really do, trust me...come with me to my home...our home...be with me.' he said sounding desperate.

Maha moved away from him

'I can't see you with another woman...I...'

'Maha!' he held her shoulders, 'Miara isn't at my home.' He said. Maha still didn't look at him. He sighed, 'Maha, I didn't marry Miara...' Maha's head shot up. Fawaz nodded tears in his eyes.

Maha stared at him for a while before looking away, 'I don't trust you.' she said.

Fawaz nodded, he completely understands her having trust issues.

'That is why I am saying come with me, you and the kids. Tomorrow, I will be waiting for you.' he said leaning forward and planting a gentle kiss on her forehead. Maha closed her eyes.

Fawaz broke apart from her and looked at her one last time before turning around and climbing down. Fawaz knew she will come to him, she has come from Dehradun convincing her father and leaving Behrad behind; she has come for him.
