CHAPTER 46 - VISITING MY WIFE

That night Fawaz found out Zubair has been gone to attend some emergency, seeking a chance Fawaz goes to meet Kiah.

He doesn't care what time it is, he has a right to meet his wife and kids whenever he wanted to. This time again he dodged the guard and hurried upstairs. He rang the bell; and stood there fidgeting with his fingers. The door opened and her beautiful face appeared from the other side, she is dressed in a simple green kurtha and white Patiala, her hair on one side. The two kids came jumping from behind, both dressed in their PJs. Perhaps they were going to sleep now.

'Hey' he said awkwardly

Kiah looked at him 'You here?' she asked sounding surprised.

'Yeah...don't worry I am not here to trouble you, I was passing by here thought of saying a hi' he lied casually. Lying has become his forte.

She looked reluctant but nodded stepping aside from the door allowing him to come inside, as he came in the kids surrounded him making his chest swell with pride. He caressed their hair lovingly.

'Uncle, more chocolates' one of them squealed, Fawaz isn't able to differentiate the two, who is Faheem and who is Majid?

'No, too many chocolates will spoil your pearly whites' Fawaz said pulling the kid's cheek gently. Both the kids look disappointed

'Kids, go and sleep its way past your bed time. Mom and uncle will talk...theek hai?' Maha said looking lovingly at their kids. They nodded and left, such obedient kids thought Fawaz.

After they had gone Kiah asked Fawaz to take his seat on the sofa while she tugs the kid to bed and will get him a warm cup of coffee. Fawaz nodded and silently sat on the sofa. As he sat there alone, he felt tensed again. He clasped his palms together and sat there waiting patiently for her.

He has come here but what is he going to talk to her? Should he give a last try? But Zubair isn't around what if something happens? He needed to handle this carefully.

Minutes later Kiah returned with two mugs of coffee, both the mugs are red with heart printed on them and some love quotes. Fawaz frowned assuming this has been given to her by Behrad.

She sat beside him placing one leg on the couch and one dangling, she handed him the mug. He smiled taking it from her.

'That day you left all off sudden, I felt strange.' she said casually making Fawaz skip a beat, he shook his head shaking off any thoughts.

'Oh yeah! Sorry, I had remembered some important work' he lied taking a sip from his mug.

'I haven't seen you around, are you new here?' she asked looking at him. He nodded

'I live in Delhi and came here for Zeeshan' Fawaz explained

Kiah sat up straight and smacked her forehead, 'I am so stupid, I didn't even ask your name?' she said. Fawaz smiled sadly. The woman who he loves, the woman who is also mother to his kids doesn't know his name, he felt sad.

'F...Fa...Fawaz' he said after debating with himself in his head, she looked at him frowning.

'This name sounds so familiar' she said looking ahead as though she is in a deep thought.

'It's a very common name.' Fawaz made up an excuse, Kiah looked at him and her gaze resting on him for few minutes before she said, 'and you too seem so familiar like a distant memory, a dream.' she said still looking at him

'You must have met someone who resembles me.' Fawaz said simply.

'Talking about resembling, I noticed recently, my kids do resemble you.' and saying this she began to giggle. Fawaz also smiled watching her smile, she then shrugged taking a sip of her coffee.

'How silly of me? Why will my kids resemble you?' she shook her head surprised by her own silliness.

They sip their coffee in silence, Fawaz kept stealing glances at her and once he noticed her looking at him too, on being caught she quickly looked away.

'It's so beautiful' she said suddenly making Fawaz look at her wondering what is that she is referring as beautiful.

'This silence...I have never felt a silence being so beautiful...' she turned her head to look at him, 'but sitting here with you completely silent is making me feel so different, so relaxed.' she said and smiled slightly as though it is the silliest thing to say.

'Same here.' Fawaz admitted in a daze, he is dazed with her beauty and innocence. She looked at him again, their gaze getting locked.

After a while, Kiah broke the eye contact by looking away. She then extended her hand gesturing towards his mug, Fawaz who is still looking at her forwarded his mug. She took their mugs and goes in, as she left Fawaz rose from his seat and walked towards the French window that opens to a small balcony. It's chilly outside but Fawaz still decided to venture out, he is clad in his jacket and muffler.

'What are you doing there? It will snow.' Kiah called from inside, Fawaz turned around and looked at her. He kept standing there admiring her, she shook her head. Fawaz turned around as she walked towards the coat rack and grabbed a heavy coat. She then walked into the balcony.

'Uff...It is so chilly' she said rubbing her arms as she walked towards him.

'But it feels nice, Haina?' he said looking up in the sky.

'Oh, how is climate there in Delhi?' she asked placing her hand on the railing and accidentally placing it over Fawaz's. He felt a sharp jolt, apparently, she felt the same and so she quickly moved her hand away.

To make the situation comfortable Fawaz spoke like he noticed nothing, 'Very hot in summers and very cold in winters there, but it never snows.' he smiled looking front. It is very late in the night and everyone has gone to sleep, with the climate being cold no one is outside.

She nodded, 'I feel so bad for you' she said and then looked at him smiling, Fawaz smiled back sadly.

'Even I feel bad for myself' he sighed, Kiah frowned

'I don't like sad people, being sad around me is a crime' she said patting his back urging him to smile. He smiled sadly and looked away. She sounded so much like the old Maha he knew.

'It's getting late I should go' Fawaz said after a while. He turned around to leave, he had come here for another chance but he shouldn't rush things, he doesn't know if he will get to meet her again but if fate is willing to give him a chance he will get a chance.

'It's not that late' he heard her voice making him stop in his tracks, he turned to look at her. She is standing there looking at him. She walked up to him, her arms wrapped around her, 'Don't go' she said with a pout making Fawaz's heart melt, but he can't stay. He shouldn't get carried away.

'Kiah, your father isn't here and it won't be wise for me to stay here' he said taking her hand in his, she smiled sadly nodding.

'Theek hai' she said, 'But do come again' she said smiling, he nodded. He is planning to come soon perhaps with the divorce papers.

Just then his phone rang.

It is from his home, he excused himself and walked towards the corner picking up the call. It was his mother on the other side, he spoke with her for a while.

After he cut the call, he glanced at his watch, 1 am, it is very late. He decided to go back home. Maha also needs to rest.

As he left Kiah too followed him, he insisted she didn't but she being she didn't listen. Fawaz smiled, Maha had always been very stubborn.

As they came out it began to snow heavily

'Damn!' Fawaz cursed, while Kiah smiles widely

'Now you have to stay back.' she said happily.

Fawaz sighed in defeat, but then a smile appeared on his lips - maybe fate is giving him a chance.
