Eternal path 13
Leila
"Yeah I'm fine, can you grab me a water bottle?" I asked Liam that was closest to the mini fridge. He passed me the water and I chugged it all in one take. "Better?" Dylan asked and I nodded. "Yes I just got thirsty because of the sun and stuff." I said dismissing him. "Okay we'll do you guys want to head back? It's 3pm and I'm starving." Con asked. "Yes, let's go." We all agreed. On the ride back I started feeling more dizzy and nauseated but if I said anything the guys would go into doctor mode and I'm really not in the mood for them to treat me like a child. Also we were supposed to go out tonight so I'm not risking it because then we'll stay inside.
"Babe everything okay? You don't feel good?" Dylan asked me. Damn it he always saw through me. "Yes I'm tired, I need a nap." I said as I leaned my head on his shoulder. He moved his hand to my hair stroking lightly and swiftly touching my forehead. "You're warm." He said to me still touching my forehead. "Warm" I joked. "No Leila I mean you're warmer than you should be" He said trying to be serious but I wasn't about to let him baby me
"Yeah I was in the sun Dylan it's normal." I said again moving my head away from him. He turned to look at my face, analysing every inch of it. "Dylan come on-" I said rolling my eyes and looking away from him to avoid him. But he immediately turned my face with his fingers on my chin. "Baby no, you're really red and your eyes are red too and that's not a good sign." He said touching my cheeks. "Dylan I'm fine stop, if I was feeling off I would tell you" I said. "Yeah right." He said. "Yes I will now stop, when we're home I'm going to take a cooling bath and I'll put some body cream on for hydration and everything will be fine and stop worrying so much." I said to him, After that he stopped talking but I knew he wasn't convinced.
And I wasn't about to prove him right.I would go home, take a nice shower, eat and then take a nap and everything would be fine. Or at least I hoped so.
Leila
Okay so it did not get better. It was now 7pm and I've tried my best to feel better, I took a shower and I ate as much as I could ( even though Luke complained again) , and I tried to sleep but seriously the room was spinning and I felt like my whole body was burning. I was currently in the bathroom sitting in-front of the toilet because I was about to throw up and I knew it. Luke was still sleeping so I was thankful for that because I could still get away with it.
Liam and Grge were outside playing basketball and Con was playing play station in the living room so I was clear for now. After 10 minutes of pure torture I finally threw up. I felt like I was throwing up for an eternity and my stomach and throat were burning. I'm going to pass out. After dry heaving for another 10 minutes I finally got up lightheaded and grabbed my toothbrush. That's when I heard it. "Leila? Are you in there?" Dylan asked while knocking the bathroom door. "Yes!!! I'll be out in a minute!" I said quickly brushing my teeth and flushing the toilet one more time. I fixed my hair quickly and I opened the door. Dylan was standing in front of the door with his arms crossed over his chests "Hey you're awake." I said smiling at him. His brows were furrowed and he was looking at me suspiciously without smiling back. Shit.
"What were you doing in there?" He asked me analysing my face as I spoke. "What do you mean? I'm human I had to use the bathroom, come on Luke you're a doctor you should know these things." I said to him and tried moving past him but his hand shot up in front of me and stopped me. "Liar." He simply said to me and I looked at him. "I know for a fact that you didn't simply use the bathroom because for the last 20 minutes you've been throwing up , coughing and choking over the toilet." He said looking at me with a serious expression. "Luke what are-" I tried lying but he cut me off. "Don't play dumb with me Leila, I woke up the second you got out of bed, I heard everything." He said again. "Now you're either going to tell me by yourself what's happening or I'm going to call of the guys up here and you're not leaving until we know what's happening." He said."Noooooo please Dylan I want to go out please that's the only reason I hid it." I pleaded with him.
"Baby you're not feeling well and something is clearly wrong, you can't go out like that." He said to me slowly pushing my baby hair out of my face. "Please, I want to go out. It's the only weekend you guys have free and I want to spend it with you all." I said again, almost tearing up. "I understand Leila but it's not going to be fun if you're like this and you know it" He said again wiping a tear that fell down my cheek. I nodded slowly and I leaned me head to his chest starting to feel lightheaded and dizzy after standing up for this long. "Come on lets get you to bed and see what's going on, okay?" He said rubbing my shoulders and back. I nodded again and we both went back to bed. I sat down and Luke crouched between my knees. "I'm going to get my bag okay?" He said to me rubbing his hands up and down my thighs trying to relax me because he knew I was stressed. "Okay." I said, nodding my head.
"I'll make you feel better in no time baby I promise I'll be quick." He said, kissing my forehead and leaving our room.
Dylan
I knew there was something wrong but I didn't want to pressure her so I let her be but as the day went on I saw that she got worse so I had to interfere. I got downstairs to grab my bag and I saw Con. "Good morning princess." Con said to me smiling and I just rolled my eyes. He saw me grabbing my bag and furrowed his brows confused. "Why do you need your bag? You're feeling okay mate?" He asked me, worried. "Yeah I'm fine but Leila is not and I need to figure out what's happening." I said to him and I saw him stand up. "What's wrong? What are her symptoms?" He asked quickly. "For now I only know she's throwing up. I haven't talked to her yet." I said to him, "Okay I'm coming too." He said to me and I nodded.
Con was the best general surgeon I knew and he was known for his diagnosing skills, I could certainly use his help. We both went up and into the bedroom where I saw Leila laying down with her feet on the bed and her hands on her head. "Leila, what's wrong?" Con asked her as soon as we walked in. Leila turned her head looking at both of us and groaned. "Come on, talk to us." I said to her, "Well I feel like shit." She said and she slowly sat up. I saw her swaying lightly and her eyes closing before me and Con grabbed her hands to steady her. "Okay so we have our first symptom, dizziness." Con confirmed. "What else, Leila." He asked her. "Um I'm dizzy and lightheaded, I threw up and I feel like I'm burning but not like when I'm having fever like I'm just hot and I have a headache." She said as we focused on what she was saying.
"Okay do your eyes hurt?" Con asked her as he put his hand on her forehead. "More like a sting but yes." She said and we both nodded and looked at each other thinking the same thing. "Okay let's check you up just to be sure" I said while I grabbed the pressure cup for my bag. "You know what's happening?" She asked me as I put the blood pressure cup on her arm. We have an idea." Con said as I took her pressure. After a while we both looked at the numbers and made a disapproving sound because it was really high. Next we took her temperature which was high too and that worried us more.
Next Con checked her heart and lungs which they sounded good and took her pulse which again was high. After we both felt like we checked everything we wanted we looked at each other with a sigh and we knew what we had to do. "What?" Leila asked, looking at us. "Have you heard the term heat stroke?" Con asked her and she squinted. "Heat stroke?" She asked, confused. "Basically when you're exposed for a long time in the sun or when you exhaust yourself doing external activities when it's too warm your body overheats and that causes you to have a bunch of symptoms telling you your body needs to cool down." Con explained to her. "I told you not to stay in the sun that long." I said to her. "But how? I've been to the sun like this before and nothing happened." She said.
"It won't happen every time, but when you're body is more vulnerable or when you're tired it's more likely that it's going to happen." I said to her and she nodded. "Okay so how do we treat that? We just let it pass?" She asked and we looked at her with sympathetic looks. "We have to go to the hospital baby." I said to her, "No no no there's no way I'm not going to the hospital." She said quickly. "We need to give you an IV with fluids and a fever reducer, we also need to cool down your body temperature and you need to be monitored in case your blood pressure or your heart rate get higher." Con said to her slowly. "Can't we do that here? You guys have IV here don't you?" She asked almost pleading us.
"Yes but we can't monitor you properly here and we need to be ready if it gets worse quickly because it's dangerous." I said to her, running my hand through her hair. "Fine." She said resting her head on me. "I'm sorry Leila but there's no other way." Con said, rubbing her arm. "I just wanted to spend the weekend with you." She mumbled. "I promise you we will take another day off so we can spend it when you're okay." Con said and she nodded. "Come on, let's get you dressed and to the hospital." I said to her as she slowly got up. "I'm going to tell the guys and we'll wait downstairs." Con said leaving the room and I gave him a nod. I helped Leila get dressed, supporting her weight while she got out of her pyjamas.
After she was only in her underwear she swayed and I quickly grabbed her before she could fall over. "I'm really dizzy, Dylan. I don't think I can stand right now, I need to sit." She said and I quickly lifted her and put her on the bed. "Okay take deep breaths babe and try not to sleep, okay?" I said to her quickly grabbing pants and a top and kneeling in front of her to put them on her. After quickly putting her clothes I lifted her of the bed and went downstairs to see the guys all waiting with concern written on their faces. "We need to keep her awake until we reach the hospital, it's not looking good." I said to them all of us were moving quickly. Liam sat in the back with me since he was a cardiologist and it was looking like the heat stroke affected her heart and blood pressure way more than it should have.
Liam took her pulse focusing on his watch and when he was done he started looking at her eyes and neck. "Yeah her pulse is very high and it looks like she's getting more red which means her blood pressure is more likely rising." He said with concern. Leila was really quiet which worried me. "Talk to us Leila." I said to her lightly, shaking her. "Mhm." She said, her eyes closing. "No no Leila eyes on me," Liam said, lightly slapping her cheek. She opened her eyes and looked at Calum. "I'm tired." She said. "I know but right now I need you to focus on me and I need you to keep your eyes open as long as you can okay?" He said to her rubbing her arms roughly so she could stay awake. She whined but that was better than having a cardiac arrest inside the car. "We're almost there." Grge said looking back at us. Let's hope she can keep her eyes open until we get her inside.
