Brave path 22
Rebecca:
"Just like you promised." She said quietly, hugging me properly.
Parker:
"Yeah, but now your visits will be even more boring since you'll know what a real rollercoaster is like." She shrugged and walked forward making me take a photo of her. Robert was looking at the map so we all joined him, starting to head towards the giant rollercoasters.
Rebecca:
"Are they scary?"
Parker:
"Um, that's for you to decide." I chuckled, holding her hand again. Bringing her out to a place full of people was the exact opposite to what we should be doing. Since it was fairly early, we didn't have to wait long in the queue. Luckily it was a row of four.
Rebecca:
"What if it's not locked properly?" She panicked, looking down the row. I pulled it out to show that it was then held her hand.
Parker:
I don't think I'd ever heard her scream so loud.
Rebecca:
"That was awesome." She beamed, suddenly having a bounce in her step. Robert grabbed our bag and we left, Rebecca pulling us towards another rollercoaster. Since we wanted to keep her energy levels up in the day, we made her have a snack and drink in the line.
Parker:
By lunch, she was exhausted, so we all made sure to eat as slowly as possible. She took her medicine and ate most of her food, so we carried on for a few hours. We had to judge everything.
Rebecca:
"I wish Jayken was here." She said quietly.
Parker:
"Me too." I mumbled, "We will see him soon."
Parker:
It went like that pretty much the whole day. We took a bunch of photos together and I don't think she stopped smiling.
Rebecca:
"I don't want to leave, I don't remember having a day like this for years." She mumbled, looking back as we walked out.
Parker:
"Just think about how fun it was." I said, wrapping my arm around her shoulder. It was beginning to get dark and cold, so we tried to find the taxi as soon as possible.
Rebecca:
"I'm tired."
Parker:
We strapped ourselves in and she lazily leant on my shoulder. "When we get back, you can shower and eat, then you can sleep ok?" She nodded and closed her eyes, falling asleep for the whole journey. As soon as we got back, we woke her up so she could shower, and ordered room service. I was pretty tired myself so I couldn't imagine how she felt.
Rebecca:
"Parker, I have no pyjamas." I heard her say quietly when the shower stopped.
Parker:
"Hang on." I grabbed her the fresh set of pyjamas and a beanie we brought for her, lightly knocking on the door. She opened it and took them, pulling me in with them.
Rebecca:
"I'm too cold."
Parker:
I grabbed a smaller towel and dried her head, slipping a beanie over the top then wrapping my arms round her frail body.
Robert:
"Room service!" Robert squealed from inside, making us both laugh.
Rebecca:
"What did you order?"
Robert:
"I got you a burger- is that ok?"
Parker:
She nodded and shivered in my grip. I helped her get changed as quick as possible then made her put my hoodie on. Ethan had found a film; we all watched it while we ate.
Rebecca:
"Can I call Jayken?" Review mumbled quietly, taking her phone off the side. I nodded and she called him.
Jayken:
"Hey Rebecca, you alright?"
Parker:
He was in public, there was a lot of background noise.
Rebecca:
"Yeah, we went to a theme park today. I can't wait to see you."
Jayken:
"That sounds fun, did Robert cry?" He sniggered, earning a grunt from him.
Rebecca:
"You know what, I thought he would too... but he didn't."
Parker:
She yawned and laid down, nuzzling her head into my side.
Jayken:
"You sound tired baby, why don't we talk another time? I'm seeing you soon anyway."
Rebecca:
"No, I want to talk now."
Parker:
"Come on hun, you need some sleep." I sighed, kissing her head and taking the phone.
Jayken:
"Goodnight Rebecca, I love you."
Jayken
Drake hadn't come over since I told him. Since I told him her treatment wasn't carrying on. It worried me; even his mum refused to talk to me. Rebecca only had one more round left and I was positive there would be no change. I didn't know what to do. How the boys had stayed strong for her the past two weeks, I didn't know. Seeing her would probably make me cry. I parked the car in the arrivals, putting a blanket in the front seat for her. Elliot told me they'd just got their bags but Rebecca was a little slow today. It was the morning and I suspected Rebecca had slept on the plane,so I asked Tom if he wanted to come over. None of us wanted a repeat of what happened with her mum. I saw them all heading over and climbed out the car.
Rebecca:
"Jayken." She breathed out, falling into my arms.
Jayken:
"Hey baby, how are you feeling?"
Rebecca:
"I've been better."
Jayken:
"Let's get you home, there's a blanket in the front."
I kissed her forehead and let her get in the car, helping the others load the suitcases. We all hugged, needing each other the most we ever have for a long time. They all squashed in the back making Rebecca laugh, Parker having to lean on Elliot's shoulder. She leant against the door and closed her eyes, cuddling under the blanket. Moments like those were so peaceful and she looked so comfortable. There was no pain. Drake still hadn't replied so I was surprised to see him outside when we pulled up. He almost immediately ran to Rebecca's door and opened it, hugging her so she didn't fall out.
Drake:
"I missed you."
Rebecca:
"I missed you too."
Jayken:
She kept her eyes closed and put her weight on him, making him stumble back. I laughed and picked her up.
"Someone's sleepy, why don't we go to your room and you can watch a film together." We went up to her room, tucking her in bed and sorting out the tv. I tried to leave but she pulled me back, whining. "I've got to sort out the bags. I'll come back up later and cuddle yeah?" She sulked and nodded, letting me go downstairs. After flights, she always felt rubbish. Technically she shouldn't be flying, but we wanted her over here. We needed her over here.
Elliot:
"Is she ok?" Elliot asked, handing me a cup of coffee.
Jayken:
"I guess. This is the first time I've seen Drake in weeks."
Parker:
"He's so upset, it's not hard to tell." Parker said.
Robert:
"I wouldn't expect anything different. What worries me is how she's basically not talked about it at all." Robert said, picking up his suitcase.
Elliot:
"She doesn't want to upset us."
Jayekn:
Elliot looked down, his whole body language shifting. I put our coffees down and wrapped my arms round him, letting him sob onto my shoulder. I knew it would hit him hard, but not this hard."It's ok, hey? It's going to be tough and it seems impossible to get through it- I know... but we can." He shook his head and put more of his weight into me, Parker coming behind and also hugging him.
Parker:
"I'm not ready either." He said quietly.
Robert:
"I don't think it's a thing we can be ready for. Around her, we have to act like it's ok, otherwise she will break down more,"
Elliot:
"I couldn't do this without you guys." Elliot said, taking a deep breath and standing up straight.
Jayken:
I got Rebecca a glass of water and went upstairs, finding her very dozy. She smiled and made space for me to climb in the bed. "Come here sweetheart:" I said quietly, pulling her into my chest. Ensuring a cover was over her shoulders, I rubbed her back gently while she watched the film. By the end, she was asleep. "Drake, talk to me bud." He looked up at me, pain shooting through his eyes.
Drake:
"She's gonna die. What do I do without my best friend Jayken, the world is gonna be so much quieter, so much dimmer."
Jayken:
"Don't take this in the wrong way, because all four of us are going to need it too, but maybe we should find you someone to talk to. I know plenty of people at the hospital- would you like that?"
Jayken:
He nodded and looked at her, starting to tear up.
Drake:
"She's so beautiful, and she's never going to realise that. She's never going to graduate, get a job, have a family. She's never had a family like Jayken, ever."
Jayken:
"Remember what she has had though. Memories with us all, a great friend, four people who have looked after her, and lots of laughter. I know it's not the same, I know."
Drake:
"I love her, Jayken. I don't want her to go."
Jayken:
"She's so sick bud. She isn't showing it, she is really trying not to, but she is. You letting her know that it's ok to go - even if it's not for you- is going to take so much pressure off her. She's in pain." He stayed silent, wiping the tears off his face. "Drake, she needs to go."
Rebecca:
I couldn't be feeling any worse. My body ached, my head was pounding and even blinking took so much effort. I fell asleep in the scan.
Robert:
"Just a scratch." Robert mumbled, doing a blood test. I leant in Ellito's arms, listening to his breathing. Drake sat across the room, pulling various stupid faces as me to distract me from the needle in my arm.
Rebecca:
"My head hurts." I whispered to Elliot , making him check the time.
Elliot:
"Can we give her a shot to relieve the pain?" He asked Robert, kissing my head when he nodded. He took out the blood test and put a small plaster on my arm, sorting out the painkillers.
Rebecca:
Jayken came back in. He didn't look happy.
Rebecca:
"So it's happening." I mumbled, squeezing Elliot's hand as I got the shot. He just nodded and sat by Drake, pulling him into a hug. Elliot did the same to me. I didn't want to show them how upset I was. I didn't want to leave the world, leave them... it was such a beautiful place. I'd never graduate or have my own family.I was angry, but I didn't know who with. Suddenly, I burst out crying making Robert quickly move to me.
Robert:
"Shhhh, baby. You're gonna feel so much worse."
Rebecca:
Elliot squeezed me tightly, kissing my head multiple times.
Rebecca:
"I don't want to die." They didn't know how to respond.
I mean, how would you respond to a child saying that. To anyone. "I got to do nothing with my life. Everyone left me and I've done nothing." All my thoughts were spilling out and I couldn't help it. I knew it would happen, but until it's confirmed, it's different. Having a feeling that you were going to die is so much different to knowing.
Jayken:
"Hey, we're still going to be here. You've done so much Rebecca."
Drake:
"You've brought a smile to so many people's faces. Not many people can do that." Drake said quietly, still sat down. I still cried, burying my head into Ellito's chest.
Rebecca:
"Let's go home."
A week later
Rebecca:
I'd been sleeping a lot . This time when I woke up, my small bag was packed by the door and Robert was in my room.
Robert:
"That was a nice long nap you had." He chuckled, feeling my head and helping me sit up.
Rebecca:
Everything ached. I felt nauseous. My head hurt. "Where are we going?" He bit his lip and looked round the room, as if he'd never see it like this again.
Robert:
"We are going to admit you to the hospital. That way you can be in much less pain."
Rebecca:
I guess he wasn't seeing it this way again. Next time they came in here, I wouldn't be here.
Parker:
"Hey, I was wondering when you'd wake up." Parker said, joining us in my room. I smiled, swallowing the lump in my throat.
