Another motto
So, Pinkstripedzebra, remember about how you said not to get too attached to things? I hope this is reassuring:
I'd rather use it than lose it.
The "use it" part is your friendship with someone. You might think the "lose it" part is losing your friend, but for me it means not losing the thing itself but the opportunity to spend time with it.
This goes for a lot of things like non-living things, but in this case it means that I'd rather make a friend so I can just have someone to be with, have someone to trust and make life better than to be forever lonely.
Also, this is kind of sad, but you might be the one who will go first. You can't be sure whether you or your friend will be the one to go first, so I'd just accept the fact that we're friends. With a friend, you can accomplish many things together, gain experience, and cherish your friend and the memories.
Plus, you'll eventually get over the loss of your friend. Eventually you'll have to move on, because that's just how life is. Your friend will still be in your heart nonetheless. I think that being attached to something is special, because you'll likely soon love it especially if it's a person, and love is a remarkable thing, whether it's platonic or not.
