Prologue-Slave

&&&

My family was taken away from me, and I, from them. It was that night, when the hunters discovered our home, and they ruined my life and many others.

"Primrose!! Look what I found, it's beautiful, right?" I held out a shell with floral patterns.

A girl 3 years younger than me turned to my direction. She had brown hair that turned a little golden at the ends of her hair. Her purple eyes gazed curiously at the object I held within my hand.

"Kat!! If mom finds out about this, you'll get in trouble," she lowered her voice,"you didn't let them follow, right?"

I laughed, "Of course not!! I covered my tracks!"

Her eyebrows still creased in worry.

"You could always drop something, and They would follow, right?"

We were in a war, we, The Clansmen and The Humans. Unlike the humans, we had better intellect and stronger bodies. And...they were afraid. They waged a war to kill us all. The Clansmen regrouped and hid within the mazes of nature.

But, the coast is nowhere near the protection of the forest, so some of The Clansmen learned how to disappear into thin air. Yup, that's right, we know voodoo magic!! There are disadvantages that apply with magic.

1) You have energy, you exhaust energy when you cast magic, thus, rendering you defenseless when you deactivate it.

2) Clothes and anything touching you turns invisible, but you can always drop something.(Invisibility spell)

3) You can cast a certain amount of energy before using your LIFE as payment.(Memories, body parts, etc.)

4) The Rebound Effect-When your energy runs out, magic will find a cost that is suitable for the spell casted.

Back to the object at hand...

I shooed her off, "Whatever, I know I did a great job, that's why I'm the one sent be the village to scout and spy on The Humans, remember?"

She sighed, irritated, "I know, but I just wanted to make sure..!"

"So you won't..?"

"I won't tell mother."

"Great! Happy Birthday, Primrose," I said shyly as I gave her the shell, I could see her reaction change, she was always weak this way. She was too kind, I, too cruel.

She hugged the shell to her chest, "Thank you, Kat."

I smiled. "Let's go back to the village."

I made a mistake, I shouldn't have explored. I shouldn't even have thought of it. I was stupid back then, but I'm not now. I know what I had done wrong. One mistake, and I ruined hundreds of lives.

They didn't deserve such fate.

The village was brimming with people, as usual, despite the noise we created, human ears couldn't hear our voices.

The market area and square crowded with people, Primrose and I weaved through the crowd and into our house. It's like TinkerBell. Our houses are part of the trees and everything around it.

Mother greeted us at the entrance and said, "Where were you? We were all worried sick about you! Oh, happy birthday Primrose."

Strange how she always found another topic.

She turned to me, "I was just exploring the forest."

She ignores what I said and hustled Primrose into the house, and gave her a cake we found from The Humans. It was scrumptious, despite its plain looks.

It was when the attacks came.

I close my eyes, the memory still valiant and alive.

"The Hunters, they're here!! Take co—"

Startled, we looked outside our window find that the voice was right, The Hunters were here. Screams broke out from every house as they broke in, their red swords gleamed maliciously in the sunlight. Mother ushered us into the basement and cast a spell on us, but it was only halfway down.

"C'mon!!" I tugged on Primrose's hand. "We need to hide."

She goes down with me, and I cast a spell of invisibility, a spell that I'm an expert of, but casting it over two persons had taken its toll, so I just cast it on Primrose, not I.

I heard Mother's screams above us, I saw Primrose ready to move and to help her. But I held her down, and I shushed her, putting my hand over her mouth so she wouldn't make a noise.

After a few minutes, I didn't hear any screams. I hear children, wailing and crying. I heard a whip lash, and a shackle of trains. Blood roared behind my ears, my sight hazy, they were taking children for slaves.

I pulled on Primrose and we emerged from the basement. I told her to quietly run to the woods and be as quiet as she can, "But it is the woods, we live here!"

I quickly quiet her and told her, "I can't come with you."

"Why?"

"I can't cast the spell long enough for two, for you, I can make it last for 3 hours, so run."

I saw her footsteps in the mud, I wish I could've helped her, but a Hunter saw me already, and had put iron chains around my hands and feet, dragging me to the other children.

I had turned these children into slaves. Now, I am one. I will share the same suffering they have.

I looked around me and stared in horror, blood splattered across the walls and bodies littered the forest floor. The metallic scent of blood hung in the air.

I tried to keep the tears falling, but still they fell. They dragged us and rode their horses, and we ran along desperately to live and to catch up.

They took is into an auction and stripped us of our clothes. I could feel my embarrassment as perverted men lifted their hands and cheered. The Dealer called out money prizes and was about to sell me away for 17,000 dollars. I closed my eyes as I walked towards the perverted looking man, and the someone else called in.

"I'll take her!"

The Dealer looked around and saw a noble carriage hanging around the foyer. The man frowned, but still clutched my arm. I looked at the carriage.

The Dealer looked at the carriage, but the noble hasn't come out. "We would like to see your face."

I heard a sigh, "Fine. I'll give 25,000 for her. How's that?"

The carriage door swung open and I found myself astounded as well. A boy my age with blonde hair and blue eyes stared down to The Dealer who cleared his throat, "Sold."

The noble grabbed my hand and gave me a ragged dress, but I didn't mind, at least I had clothes on.

"Hello, my name is Arthur."

He looked expectedly at me, I looked down, "Slaves like me don't have names. They don't even have rights."

"Well, I can give you one, right? From now on, you shall be named (name)!"

I smiled. But I was still scared, how about the others?

Life in a noble's house isn't quite as bad as I thought. I thought it would've been exhilarating! Arthur is a nice boy, he treats slaves as if they weren't slaves, but still, there are times that he has to order us around and treat so.

I have learned many skills when I was here. How to: Cook, do laundry, fight, prepare poison, language, reading, writing, stealing, pick pocketing, know what Arthur is thinking, clean, and many more.

I enjoy my time here, but Arthur has always befriended his slaves and workers. Escaping is also hard, due to all the guards in the house and outside of the house, and his parents won't tolerate any runaway workers, even if it's their own son.

Tomorrow, a festival takes place. The security wouldn't be as tight as tonight's. The slaves, makes, butlers, and other workers had been working today for the preparations tomorrow. This noble family holds it in their house for one whole day. Giving a break to everyone within their land. It also takes the nobles' minds away from their responsibilities, if only for one day.

Tomorrow is my big day. I have everything prepared. But my heart aches.

I shake my head. I will escape tomorrow.

Hello, this is my longest chapter ever, over 1000 words!! Yay! I hope you guys like this prologue. I've worked on it a bit harder than all the others.

So is it worth writing or not?
