I didn't expect I'd fall for you (PART 1)

They're objects lmaoooooo. This is a sort of backstory so yeah lol. Enjoy! It'll be divided into multiple parts btw.

Inanimate Insanity Season 2 had ended. Everyone was living in the hotel now and took the time to recover from the competition and the dramas that went down with it. They all got their rooms and after reuniting with friends everything went to normal pretty soon.

Lightbulb had found herself having to share a room with Microphone, since Test Tube wanted to switch. Test Tube first slept with Mic in one room, but now slept with Fan while Paintbrush went into a room with Soap. So now Mic and Lightbulb would share a room. They were both not too happy about it; Lightbulb remembered how loud Microphone was and Microphone thought Lightbulb was pretty weird. Though they both were in need of some nice company so they didn't complain too much. They would both rather sleep in a room with someone they didn't like much than be alone.

Microphone was never able to get along with Test Tube. She didn't really have many friends in general. She was quite anxious about making new friends. Lightbulb did have friends and hung out with them a lot, but she hated sleeping alone. She already found out when all her friends were eliminated, and, scared people would reject her if she'd ask someone if she could sleep with them, she just decided to sleep alone, in the cold night, crying herself to sleep. So it was still an improvement for them both in the end.

The first day, when OJ told Lightbulb she could stay in Mic's room, the two reacted somewhat negatively.

"Seriously? She's so loud! And probably a criminal!" Lightbulb had exclaimed, while glaring at Microphone.

"As if you aren't a silly quirkity doo who eats sticks." Microphone had replied, rolling her eyes.

"Sticks are the good kush." Lightbulb said.

But even though they were mad and didn't really like each other, they did decide that sleeping in one room as roommates would be okay for now. They could always switch later, if other rooms were available.

The first night had come pretty soon. Lightbulb and Mic hadn't spoken much to each other except the occasional greeting or asking a question. Lightbulb had initiated a conversation about food that day, but Microphone was listening to music on her ChairPods (yes these stories will continue to have ripoffs of brands, HA!). Lightbulb hadn't noticed so she thought Mic was ignoring her. She quickly stopped talking to her after that, but also soon noticed Mic was just listening to music when she started bopping her head and hum along with the melody of a song. Her voice sounded pretty, but Lightbulb had decided not to make a remark about it.

Lightbulb and Mic both went to bed.

"G'night." Lightbulb said to Mic.

"Night." Mic replied.

The two went to sleep soon after that.

That night, Microphone woke up. She noticed she was pretty thirsty and went to get some water. Late night drinks just hit different in a way. She drank some water from the faucet in the bathroom connected to their room and then returned. She got back into bed and was about to go to sleep when she heard... crying?

She sat up, listening. Her hearing is pretty good so she had no trouble hearing that it was, indeed, the sound of crying. Soft sobs could be heard, and they sounded like they were coming from Lightbulb. Mic turned to Lightbulb. She could see the bulb laying there, her back facing Mic, a dim light emitting from her. Usually her light was a bright warm color, but now it was dim and sad, showing that she really was in a bad mood.

"Lightbulb?" Microphone tried to talk to her, "Are you okay?"

Lightbulb sniffled.

"No..." she said softly.

Microphone felt concerned. Usually Lightbulb was all bright and goofy, but now, she was so depressed. Was something going on inside her that she tried to hide? Mic suddenly felt guilt wash over her. She felt guilty for judging Lightbulb for her quirks. Maybe she was just trying to make people smile (which, admittedly, might have worked on her a few times) to hide her sadness. Mic did sometimes notice how gloomy Lightbulb looked when no one was around, but didn't think much of it. Everyone had been gloomy the past few months, but after the competition it turned all better. Though for Lightbulb, there seemed to still be something wrong.

"What's wrong?" Microphone asked.

Lightbulb sat up and turned to her.

"I'm scared."

"What are you scared about?" Mic asked.

Lightbulb sighed.

"Well, I'm... I'm scared I'll end up alone. Before Painty, Fan and Tube were eliminated, I'd always sleep with then at night. We'd always talk and laugh ourselves to sleep. But when they were gone, I always slept alone. I... I missed them. I know it's all better now but... I'm still scared. I don't want to end up alone, but I'm too scared to ask someone to be there for me because I don't want to bother them. I mean, I'm always the happy and quirky one, so why should I be sad about something so small?" She ranted. "Sorry," She then added, "I usually just-"

"No no, it's okay!" Mic quickly reassured Lightbulb, "Everyone has feelings and should be able to feel them. Even you."

Lightbulb smiled a bit through her tears. Microphone saw it.

"You need a hug?" She asked.

Lightbulb nodded. She got off of her bed and went up to Mic's bed, hugging her instantly. Mic hugged back. It was nice to be hugged for once. She softly rubbed Lightbulb's back as Lightbulb let out her feelings, crying, her tears spilling onto Mic's body. She couldn't help but feel tears well up in her eyes as well. She hadn't felt loving physical touch in a while now, so this hug was nice and refreshing. She just let her tears flow as she closed her eyes, wrapping her tail around Lightbulb as well.

Eventually, Lightbulb had calmed down. She pulled away, her light a little brighter than before.

"Thank you," she said, "and sorry, again."

"No need to be sorry," Mic said, wiping her eyes, "it's okay to be sad sometimes."

Lightbulb's light got brighter at those words. It got bright enough for her  to see Mic's face and then she noticed Mic having some tears in her eyes as well.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

Mic nodded.

"Yeah, it's just that I'm touch starved and haven't been hugged in a while."

Lightbulb felt bad at those words.

"Aww, C'mere then!" She said as she pulled Mic into a hug, which made her laugh a little and let her last few tears escape.

They stayed like that for some time before letting go. Lightbulb's light was back to its normal warm color. It made Microphone smile.

"Y'know, you're pretty good at comforting for a criminal." Lightbulb told Mic.

Mic scoffed playfully at that. She then smiled again, which made Lightbulb smile.

"Well, I just want you to feel okay again. Even if we aren't really friends, I still care about your feelings. I know what it's like getting your feelings, wants and needs unvalidated by other people, so I try to not do the same." She explained.

Lightbulb's smile faded.

"Wait, are you talking about when people yelled at you for being loud?" She asked.

"Not just that, it's just that people didn't really want to hang out with me, and Soap was my only friend, but then she got eliminated and I was alone again. Even more alone than usually. And then..." Mic paused.

Should she tell Lightbulb about Taco? What if she would judge her? Mic sighed. She had comforted Lightbulb and Lightbulb seemed to be at ease with her right now, so it would be okay to tell her now, she supposed.

"Then?" Lightbulb asked, curiously.

"Remember when I talked about that voice in my head?" Mic said. "Well, that voice was... Taco. She offered to "help" me during the competition. I mean, thanks to her I got further in the game but I ended up driving my teammates and possible friends away from me because she manipulated me into doing things I didn't really want to do. Until one day I broke contact. That's the day I decided to quit."

Lightbulb's eyes widened at that.

"Taco? Man, she's evil. I'm sorry she did that to you. Also, I never realized how lonely you were!" Lightbulb hugged Mic again.

Microphone hugged back.

"It's okay. I feel better now that I broke the contact. Girl wanted to split the money if I won, can you believe it?"

"Whoa, that's just nasty." Lightbulb said. "Wait, does anyone else know about this?"

"Well, no. Okay, Knife does, but he promised to not tell anyone since we're friends."

"Ah, I gotcha." Lightbulb said, nodding. "I'm glad you feel better now though."

"I'm glad you feel better too." Microphone replied.

The two smiled at each other. Lightbulb suddenly had an idea.

"Hey, can we maybe talk a bit?"

Microphone raised a brow curiously.

"About what?" She asked.

"Oh, I dunno, just random stuff." Lightbulb replied. "You're pretty cool and I just wanna, uh, maybe get to know you? I know I said "stranger danger" when I first met you, but now you don't really feel like a stranger anymore."

Microphone couldn't help but smile.

"Well, okay then."

The two then started talking, asking each other questions to get to know each other. They ended up talking for a few hours. Microphone was getting tired. She yawned.

"Man, I'm starting to get tired." She said.

Lightbulb looked at Mic.

"Well, go to sleep then. Bad sleep is not good, I tell ya." She said.

Microphone nodded.

"Yeah, I'll sleep." She said, proceeding to lay down.

"Wait," Lightbulb said, "can I... sleep with you? I hate sleeping alone and I want to hug someone while sleeping."

Microphone smiled as she scooted to the side, giving Lightbulb space to lay down. Lightbulb laid down immediately and hugged Mic. Microphone hugged back, accepting the affection. It felt nice and warm. And soothing.

The two eventually fell asleep, enjoying each other's company.

And that was part 1! Stay tuned for part 2!
