Chapter 36: The Zombie Vampire Squad
Yo, what's up, bitch?
Those were the words I would've said to Clayre if we were just meeting up on a normal day.
I wouldn't consider this to be a normal day otherwise those words would already have left my mouth.
Clayre looked like she had just seen death and her tiny body was shaking from the tremors of fear that could clearly be seen on her face and in her pale blue eyes.
I cursed myself for letting it get to this point. I should've known Dimitri would try to undermine me by taking out my weak spots.
"I-I-Isa?" She whispered.
My eyes stung and my heart dropped down to my stomach when I heard her voice. It was dry and hoarse like she hadn't drunk anything for hours even a day.
The loud and jovial voice I had known her to always use had now become a tired and painful one.
"Hey," I tried to sound calm, "It's me. You'll be okay, everything will be alright now."
It was the biggest and most cliché lie ever but I didn't need to see her get anymore depressed right now. It just wasn't the time and place.
"W-where am I? Who is that guy?" She pointed a shaky finger towards Lucien who had softened his steely eyes...just a tiny fraction.
Mmm. Maybe he is compassionate. Just barely.
But what am I supposed to call Lucien? My kidnapper? My buyer? The guy I wanted to crush to death?
"That's my friend Lucien," I said softly. It was the easiest answer to give her right now though we acted more like enemies.
Clayre let her body relax a little and wrapped her arms around herself. Her hair was a complete mess and her clothes were caked with dirt.
"I think that's enough chit chat, Isadora it's up to you. Come with me or the girl dies. Your choice," Dimitri said as his grip tightened on me.
My heart was beating so loudly that it drowned out every other noise around me. My breathing became heavy and my vision became unfocused. I looked up at Clayre and could see her frightened eyes trying to read mine. I couldn't let her die. It wasn't her fault she was dragged into this mess. I couldn't bring myself to let an innocent person get killed, let alone my best friend. I wasn't letting someone else pay for what I've done. Even though I'm not quite what exactly I've done wrong. Oh right, I wasn't meant to exist. Then there's the answer.
"Leave her out of this, I'll go," I said quietly and looked up to see Dimitri smirking down at me.
One of us will have to die in the end anyway.
"I always knew you were a somewhat smart girl," Dimitri said.
I scoffed at him. I had to refrain myself from saying that maybe I got most of my stupidity from him. But I'm sure that it would've guaranteed me a quicker death.
I was so angry at this... inhumane, dumbass, vampire bastard who happened to be my father and wanted to kill me. Lucky me.
He would kill his own flesh and blood without regret and sadness. No more proof was needed to define him as completely insane and absolutely power hungry.
"She's not going with you, let us settle this in another way and nobody will get hurt," Lucien's hard voice sliced through the silence like a cheese knife.
"Oh, and how is that? She is the only thing that could give me what I want. You are stuck there now. What else could you possibly give me that is just as valuable as her?" Dimitri said with a hint of curiousness in his voice.
There was a moment of silence that pretty much said there was no other way around this.
"I thought so," Dimitri smirked, "Trent, release the girl, we don't need her no more."
Trent nodded his head and released Clayre, causing her to drop to the floor. I saw Jaycon run up to her and she widened her eyes at him like everytime she does when she sees a hot guy.
Jaycon extended his hand for her to take and she looked at it hesitantly, unsure of what to do. After a few seconds of staring intently at his hand, she placed her own into it and he pulled her up to her feet.
"Are you ready to go now?" Dimitri asked me from behind my ear.
NO! I wanted to scream. I just happened to be walking voluntarily to my own death. I don't think that's something normal people would want to do. But I wasn't normal. I did this for the sake of everything that was important to me. It was easier to take me away from everything than have everything being taken away from me. I couldn't live with myself otherwise. I felt the sting of an unshed tear lingering in the corner of my eye. Was this really it? This wasn't the way I wanted to die but I guess fate had different plans for me.
"I'm ready," I said, my voice scratchy from trying to hold back a sob.
"Good, let's not delay any further," Dimitri smiled and began to lead me away from everyone.
"Wait..." A voice, Eefah's voice, said.
We all froze and turned around to see what she had to say.
Eefah stood confidently somehow and a determined look was displayed on her face.
"I have something you might want," She said to Dimitri and he gave her a slightly puzzled look.
"And what is that, my dear?" Dimitri asked curiously.
"This." Eefah produced a small, crystal vial of a white looking liquid.
"What is that?" I asked. Eefah held it out sideways from her in an almost teasing way.
"It's a remedy of resurgence," Eefah said simply, "No being has ever attempted a plan like yours, Dimitri. You need to be prepared for the consequences and this can at least be of help."
"Really, how smart of you Eefah. I'll take that, thank you," Dimitri said and placed his hand out for her to give him the vial.
No, no, no. Now this motherfucker couldn't be killed. Shit!
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Lucien nod his head at Eefah.
"Here then," In a flash, she tossed the bottle into the air towards Dimitri. It spiralled in the air but before Dimitri could catch it, Lucien appeared right beside him and smacked the bottle sideways, diverting it to Jaycon who caught it in his left hand.
"No!" Dimitri bellowed. He sprung onto Lucien and tackled him to the ground and all Hell broke loose.
Dozens of Dimitri's men came flooding out of the shadows and circled us. The worst part was, these 'men' didn't even look like vampires. They did have the fangs but they looked even more terrifying. Crimson red eyes sunk deep into their skulls, dangerously sharp rows of fangs bared to rip you to shreds and wickedly sharp fingernails that resembled talons replaced normal fingernails.
These weren't even normal vampires. They looked like zombie vampires and I was 99.9% sure that the zombie apocalypse was really happening.
I ran over to where Jaycon, Erynn and Clayre were standing at I looked over at Lucien and Dimitri. They had eachother locked in a chokehold and had their fangs bared but they looked like toothpicks compared to the ones that Dimitri's zombie vampire squad had.
"What are they?" I whispered to Jaycon who was looking at them with focused eyes.
"They're demon bred vampires. It's against the ancient laws to have any dealings with them but they are only summoned by evil intentions when something big is going to happen and I mean big. Them being here is bad news for us," Jaycon explained. He stood infront of us protectively, his stance ready to attack at any given time.
"There's too many of them to take on, we'll never be able to fight off that many," I cried. I was so not prepared to be a gladiator right now and I'm not sure my feet, hand and nasty comments could defend me from these diabolical creatures.
Jaycon nodded.
"That's why you, Erynn and your friend is gonna try to quietly escape."
"What?!" I whisper-yelled, "Are you fucking nuts? I'm not leaving you and Lucien here on your own."
"That's right, we came here together and we're leaving here together," Erynn stated.
"Iz, please get out of here, you have to take your friend out of here. And Erynn, heck, even Eefah. This is way too dangerous."
"No," I refused to do what he said. It was impossible. I could never leave them. I couldn't leave Lucien.
"Iz, at least get your friend out of here." His voice had become even harder and demanding, desperate.
"I won't, I can protect Clayre. I'm just not leaving you and everybody else here."
He ran a hand through his hair angrily.
"Goddamn it, just get you and your friend out of here. You two can't protect yourselves, you're not even vampires or werewolves. It would be impossible, you're just gonna get yourselves killed."
"You know I'm stubborn and I'm just going to ignore your commands. There's no way in Hell I'm leaving you, Erynn, Lucien and even Eefah behind."
He growled frustratingly. I could tell he was getting really pissed. My stubborness works wonders.
"Just get your friend out here then!" He yelled.
"Why?" I challenged.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my bestfriend but I'm not leaving everyone else. I could protect Clayre. Everyone here had become my family, I'm not ditching them. If I had to die in place of one of them, then so be it.
His next answer shocked me to say the least.
"Because she's my mate."
