"That is sooo smart!" I cried.
Jaycon had led us to a, what I had thought, dead end with a half dead wall-climbing plant spread across it. He moved the plant to one side to reveal a dull brick wall. He placed his palm on the side further to the left and pushed with deep concentration. A section of the wall move inwards and swung open like a door to show a dense forest ahead.
"They are smart, I'll give them that," I said impressively.
Jaycon looked back at me and grinned.
"But not enough to outsmart me," He sassed.
I just rolled my eyes at his boastful comment. "Okay, Albert Einstein."
The night air turned out to be very humid and there was not a single puff of wind to liven the still air.
The wood that lay ahead of us didn't seem too inviting and had an eerie feel to it.
"Do we really have to go through that?" I asked nervously hoping that there was somehow another route we could take and not get eaten by the Big Bad Wolf.
"Yes. It's a lot shorter and it will provide us cover from Dimitri's eyes," Lucien said bluntly and began to lead the way into the wood.
"You've got to be kidding me," I groaned and clumsily followed the rest of the group into the wood.
The wood was...scary. I didn't like it one single bit. The trees towered above us like mountains of wood and the thick branches stretched out while owls hooted under its canopy. It blocked out most of the moonlight and only a few grey streaks of light lit the narrow path ahead of us. Jaycon's lamp was the only thing that stopped me from tripping over myself since the rest off them probably had 30/30 vision.
"Can't you use your vampire and wolf speed to get out of here quicker?" I asked hopefully.
Eefah scowled ahead of me.
"We are able to run fast but that doesn't give us the ability to dodge hundreds of stray braches," She said in a 'duh' tone.
My face fell in disappointment.
"Fair enough," I muttered quietly.
A long silence settled between the five of us and all you could hear was the crunching of dried twigs and leaves beneath our feet as we continued to walk.
"Dimitri is planning something bad," I said breaking the silence.
They turned back and glanced at me but continued to walk.
"We already know that," Erynn exclaimed.
I nodded my head but realised they couldn't see me.
"He said something about taking over the deity's throne in Heaven. His name was, wait...Vaseline, Vermin?" I said, unsure and slightly embarrrassed that I couldn't remember.
"Vazol," Erynn provided.
They didn't seemed surprised at the news at I figured they must have out the pieces together somehow.
"That's it!", I cried, "Dimitri said that in order to make that happen he had to sacrifice a child of a witch and vampire."
They all froze when I said that and turned around to look at me.
"Iz," Jaycon said slowly, "That's a big deal. A child of a witch and vampire is one of the deadliest and powerful beings to exist on this earth. There was only ever 2 beings like that to ever come into existence, it's an extremely rare occurrence. Both were killed in order to keep the peace between the Creatures of the Night, us."
An uncomfortable lump lodged in my throat and I painfully swallowed it down. My palms were sweating and my heart wouldn't stop beating against my ribcage.
"Dimitri said it was me," I whispered quietly to myself but they obviously heard when I saw all their expressions turn into complete shock.
They looked among eachother like they were having a silent discussion.
They finally turned their attention back to me.
"We won't let him take you," Lucien spoke up but he kept his voice even, "It would be one of the most dangerous things to happen if he gets hold of you again. We can't risk that. It's already enough trouble that he has the woodland. I'm guessing he told you about the woodland?"
Well, just the main facts of it," I said.
"This woodland, known as the Garden of Eden in the beginning of time, was where the connection between Heaven and Earth first existed. There are other ones in different places all around the world but this one here is the original one. It is the main one that holds together the, what we call, The Bond. Cut this connection down and all connections with Heaven will be destroyed leaving no balance and order. Only the person who destroyed the Bond can control how the world will be ruled. Vazol will have no power over Earth anymore."
I thought about it for a few seconds. It didn't make sense. There was just something that I didn't quite get.
"Well, if I'm the one he uses to cut the Bond then am I not the one who would be able to control the earth?" I questioned as we continued to trek to the otherside.
"Dimitri will most likely kill you after he has used you. You're of no purpose to him after that, he of course will not let you take control," Lucien said and I felt even more uneasy now. Not only did Dimitri want to take my blood but he also wanted to get rid of me. I didn't want anything to do with this. I didn't want to be involved in this shit. I felt angry. Angry at Dimitri for making everything worse, for being so greedy and for being a total prick.
"There's still one more thing I don't understand..." I said slowly, trying to somehow think of its possibilities, "My parents aren't a witch and vampire, like I mean that's ridiculous. They have never done anything weird or performed magic or sucked any blood. So how am I a child of a vampire and witch?"
They stayed quite for a minute before Jaycon answered me.
"Maybe they are and maybe they aren't," Jaycon said simply.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked him, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"It's not completely unnatural for them to give you to another couple for them to raise you. Being the child of a vampire and witch is dangerous and the penalty for bearing one is death. So the people who you see as your parents are most likely not."
I felt my heart fall to my stomach. The people know as 'mom' and 'dad' to me were no more than complete strangers who have brought me up for the past 18 years. So little did I know about my family...and myself.
Emotions circulated in my body, emotions that were trying to come to a conclusion.
"We should hurry up, guys. We're nearly there," Erynn piped up and Eefah walked closely beside her.
I could just about see a clearing in the dense wood and two black SUVs lay ahead of that.
Yesss.
I'm not going to die after all. I was so happy I nearly sagged on the floor with joy.
"We're going to go home and try to sort things out," Erynn said happily and smiled back at me.
I nodded with a grin on my face.
Finally. We could start figuring things out now.
A swift and cold breeze blew from behind me which caused me to halt my walking.
A loud thump could be heard and my heart raced.
Please, God. No.
"How rude of you to just walk away from me."
Dimitri's voice dripped of fake sadness.
