Huh?
I opened my eyelids to the sound of many pairs of footsteps in the darkness of my cell.
A torchlight in the distance flashed in the blackness of the place.
Wait. Are they coming for me? Were they going to kill me in my sleep?
Shiiiitttt!
I scrambled quickly off the floor and thought of a way to escape.
My breathing became heavy and laboured and a small trail of sweat trickled down my back.
Maybe I could kick them in the balls.
It always works.
The footsteps became closer and I cried out.
"Stay away from me!"
The footsteps got closer until I heard them just stop outside my cell.
The torchlight was directed on my face and I winced at the brightness.
Well, Jeez. If they were going to kill me then did they really have to blind me first?
"If you come near me, I'm gonna rip off your ba-" My hollering was cut off when an all too familiar voice shushed me.
"Be quiet, we're going to get you out of here."
I gasped.
"Lucien?" I asked in bewilderment.
"Yes." The voice answered back.
"And Jaycon," Another voice popped up which obviously belonged to Jaycon.
Suddenly a bright light lit up the room and I could finally see that it was infact Lucien and Jaycon. Behind them was Erynn and Eefah.
Jaycon was carrying an electric portable lamp that resonated a blinding white light around the room while I gaped at them.
Whoah. It was like the Avengers came to my rescue.
"Erynn, Eefah. You guys came too?" I asked.
Erynn gave me a bright smile and nodded her head enthusiastically.
"Of course we did! We couldn't miss out on all the fun. We're going to get you out of here," She cried.
Lucien stepped forward and was about to touch the bars when I quickly stopped him.
"Don't touch that! There's something wrong with it," I cried and showed them my palms.
Lucien winced slightly and cursed under his breath.
"They covered the bars in sulphuric acid," He ground out.
"Sulphiric acid? Wouldn't that have melted the bars down as well?" I frowned.
Lucien shook his head.
"The iron is more than likely enchanted."
No wonder! Sneaky little bastards. They were prepared.
"What are we going to do now? We have to get her out of there!" Erynn cried and let out a frustrated groan. Poor thing. I wondered what made her want to come and search for me as well.
"I'll break the door down. The
acid will take an affect on me but I'll heal quicker," Lucien said, which shocked me to say the least. Was he actually going to do that for me? The Lucien I knew wouldn't have risked getting his shoes wet to help me out of a puddle.
"Hey, hey, hey! There's no need to play the hero. I'm sure there's another way." I tried to reason but he just shook his head again.
"There's no other way around this. None of us here have necromancy powers and there is no witch present to help us." Lucien said and looked at me through his dark hair that fell over his eyes.
I was about to debate that there was infact a witch here that happened to be me but I stopped myself from spouting that out. I wasn't too sure if that would've been the right moment. Like "Hey, I just found out that I was a witch while I was locked up here to talk to the dirt!"
I wasn't going to tell him about Rosanna either. Not yet anyway.
He wrapped his long fingers around the handle of the door and you could clearly see the pressure he was putting onto it when his knuckles turned white. His face stayed expressionless the whole time. You could hear the slight hiss as the acid burned into his flesh and the smell of incinerated meat filled the air. I gagged and was ready to pass out.
Maybe this wasn't such a good idea...
After a few excruciating moments of hoping that Lucien's hands wouldn't be dismembered, the door finally came loose from its hinges. Lucien held onto the door and gently set it down on the ground as not to make a loud clatter.
I have never been so happy to leap in my life. Because leap was what I did over the door on the ground and out of the cell. Obviously I wasn't that skilled because my landing was a bit rocky and I stumbled right into Lucien. My face hit his rock hard chest and he wrapped his arms around my waist before I met the ground. He tightened his hold on me while I regained my footing. His hot breath fanned against my neck which sent shivers down my spine. I could smell his musky masculine scent that I strangely found comfort in.
He kept his firm hold on me and I might've actually believed that he was hugging me.
"Next time be careful and try not to get kidnapped," He said in a low voice into my ear that was part demanding and part sexy.
I wanted to shoot back a smart-ass comment but instead found myself nodding in response.
"Good, now we have to get out of here," He said and I removed myself from his grasp.
I haven't really noticed how he was 10 times hotter up close.
"If Ms. Ballet Shoes is done prancing over the broken door, can we get outta here?" Eefah hissed in impatiently. Looks like she inherited some characteristics from her brother.
"How did you guys even get in here?" I asked them, "There's no entrance or exit doors in sight."
Jaycon just tutted.
"They're not hidden if you know where to look."
We started walking noiselessly down the dark corridors. It looked like an underground place.
"So, how did you know Dimitri took me?" I questioned them as Jaycon strolled infront of us, Lucien beside me and the twins behind us.
"Easy. As a business person, you learn to study an individual and try to decipher what their true intentions are," Lucien said beside me as he strided effortlessly and focused on the path infront of him, "I knew he was up to something the moment he saw you in my kitchen. I didn't know exactly what but I knew there was something."
I really wanted to recommend that he went back to college and take up philosophy class. He would've been a pro at it.
"How did you know where to find me? Isn't this place supposed to be hidden?"
He continued to look straight ahead. His physical features stood out even more in the white light. A perfect straight nose, high cheekbones and a jawline sharp enough to cut through a glacier and thick black hair that always seemed to be slightly disshevelled. Who could even get tired of looking at him?
"When we heard from one of the staff that you disappeared from your bedroom, we immediately went back to the hotel. Jaycon asked the receptionist if she had seen you leave but she said she didn't. We want back up to your room to see that your luggage bag was still unpacked and a...Kleenex box by the balcony.
Jaycon picked up the box and he could smell an unknown scent. We used that smell to track you down and that's how we got here."
I nodded, that explains it. I felt like crying with relief right now. As much as I hated Lucien and he hated me, he still came. And... That's a good thing, I guess. When you think the people who didn't seem to care about you turn up in the most dire of situations, it really makes you see things in a different light. Especially when you save your 'pet' from who was supposed to be a friend.
"Where are we going?" I piped up.
"We're going to go back to our house except we have to go through the wood that I used to own," Lucien said and there was a hint of regret when he said 'used to own'.
But all I could think about was when he said 'our house'. Our house...
Was he accepting the fact that I wasn't a blood whore now? Was he giving me some legal ownership of the house too? Hmmm...
"Why are we going through the woods?" I asked.
"Because it's simply a shorter route to get back to the house and try to elude Dimitri's radar."
"So I guess you know about Dimitri?" I questioned. It must be kind of hard for him.
"Not everything but I put the pieces together," Lucien said in an unemotional tone, trying to not give away anything.
"So we really have to go through the woods?" I said, slightly disappointed because I hated the dark. Also not to mention what could be in that wood.
"Yes. I have cars waiting on the otherside of it."
I sighed. Well my Avenger heroes kinda sucked. So much for thinking they had some sort of cool superpower.
