Chapter 24: Mama And Papa Abelló

I sat on my bed, munching the crispy fries and thought back to what happened. After the waiter had left, Lucien told me that we were meeting his parents and uncle tomorrow because they couldn't meet us today due to the stormy weather. I had forgotten all about meeting them. I was a little nervous about it too.

But the biggest thought that kept on invading my mind was the kiss with Lucien. Darn, was I out of my mind. It was absolutely reckless but so freaking mind blowing at the same time. I couldn't describe the feelings I had as his lips embraced mine. It was needy and rough, absolute lust.

The only thing that really pissed me off was how Lucien acted about it.

He made it seem like it was nothing special and that he did it every day. He brushed it off without any emotions or meaning, just like that.

I finished off the fries and put the empty plate on my bedside table. I sighed and fell back onto the bed, making my hair spread around my head like a peacock.

I listened to the rumbling sky and downpours of nonstop rain outside and slowly closed my eyes. The thunder and lighting had stopped, thank the big JC, I might actually get some sleep tonight.

A sharp pain suddenly shot through my head and I winced. My eyes sprung open. I placed the palm of my hand on my temple and kneaded it gently.

When will these motherfucking headaches stop?

Ugh! This was getting to be a major pain in the ass.

I grumbled, rolled onto my side and closed my eyes once again.

The pain slowly subsided and I finally fell into a deep slumber.

It was a beautiful morning...

The sun was shining, the birds sang happily to welcome another dawn of a glorious day, the temperature perfect for a day out on the beach.

And I was in bed and grumpy as fuck.

The weather had cleared up considerably well and the birds continued to chirp together in sweet harmony on the balcony. So far the day was going great, just not for me.

"Shut the fuck up and go shit on someone else's balcony!" I shouted and grabbed a pillow, throwing it through the balcony doors and at the gathering of confused birds.

They squeaked in fright and flew away as fast as possible from my villainous self.

Boy, was I going to hell for that!

I continued to get those random pounding shocks through my brain throughout the night and when you feel like someone had planted a bomb in your brain then maybe you could understand how I felt in the morning.

I still felt guilty about the birds though.

I sighed and got out of bed, dragging my zombie figure into the bathroom. I glanced at my reflection and winced. My black hair was all knotty and tangled, my eyes dull green and for the first time I had slight dark circles under them.

Thank God for makeup.

Without it the female race would be ugly as shit, aka me.

I sighed and took out of the makeup bag a bunch of cosmetic products I've never used before.

As I was busy applying it all over my face, the bathroom light suddenly flickered.

I paused with the lipstick tube in my hand and slowly trailed my eyes up to the ceiling.

The glow of the orange light, flickered uncontrollably, making a faint buzzing noise.

The flickering stopped and the light stilled.

I let out a long, uneven breath which I didn't even realise I was holding in.

That was creepy as hell. Something that would happen in those horror movies where there's a ghost behind you.

I froze and slowly spun around, checking if there was anything behind me.
I directed my eyes around the room, everything was still, nothing moved.

Stop it, Isadora. You're being totally ridiculous. It's probably just a temporary power inconvenience. But ghosts were inconspicuous so, you'd never know.

Everything's fine now.

I think...

I finished putting on my makeup and walked out of the bathroom.

I opened up the suitcase and rummaged through the stack of clothing that were neatly folded.

First impressions were important so I guess I'll stick with something casual and decent looking.

I pulled out a floor length dress in a deep wine colour. It was flowy and was like a Greek style.

Right, this should be okay.
I hope.

Let's go meet the parents.

* * * * *

I made my way to the 'private' dining hall of the hotel where Lucien told me to meet him and his parents.

Lucien has parents?

Shocker, right?

I thought he'd be one of those weird immortal children who were carried down to this earth, naked and wailing their little lungs out, in a basket by a white stark.

It proves, again, that some legends are not all true.

I just hope those random zaps in my brain won't disturb this special occasion. Right, like I'd like for that to happen.

I came to a stop at the door where a bald man was standing outside, wearing a black suit and white gloves. He must be a butler.

"You must be Ms. Isadora, yes?" He asked in a deep voice, looking me up and down, not in a creepy way but more like an observative way.

"Yup, that's right," I said while he reached over to the door handle.

"Mr. Abelló was just expecting you, Ms. Isadora," He replied and pushed open the door revealing a impressive sized dining room with a long table and neatly aligned chairs, covered in lush blue velvet on either side. The room was surrounded by red, stained glass windows and a big crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling with stunning plaster mouldings around its perimeter.

Such a magnificent place just to be used for having your dinner in.

"Thank you," I said and made my way in.

"You're welcome, Miss, and enjoy your evening," He responded and gently closed the door behind me.

I saw Lucien chatting to three people in the far side of the room where a large fireplace was. They were in deep conversation, all holding a crystal glass of brandy.

I took a deep breath and made my way towards them. My heels quietly clicking on the cherry wood floor.

I walked straight up to them and I could smell the scent of expensive cognac and the heat emanating from the fireplace.

I cleared my throat to get their attention and all four of them turned around to face me.

"Oh my goodness, Lucien, is this the new girl you were talking to me about? She's absolutely gorgeous!" The lady, who I'm guessing was Lucien's mother, cried and embraced me in a warm hug.

She looked amazing for her age and had golden locks and a bright smile.

"Yes, mother," Lucien said and looked at me. I blushed, thinking about our little, um, make out session last night.

"Isadora this is my mother," Lucien said and right then did I realise that this was the very first time he said my name while addressing me.

"Oh, it's so nice to meet you, Isadora! I'm Annabella but you can call me Anna," She grinned and I smiled at her.

"Nice to meet you too, Anna," I said and her eyes twinkled.

I would never have guessed that she was Lucien's mother if I saw her in a crowd. She was bright and bubbly while Lucien was reserved and had a toughness to him. Also she had blonde hair while he had dark chestnut hair. The only resemblance was the eyes. Lucien's eyes were a stormy grey colour just like his mother's.

"Isadora, this is my father," Lucien gestured to the man in front of me who was only an inch shorter than Lucien with dark hair. He had a superiority demeanor to him and now I know who Lucien takes from the most.

"Glad to finally meet you, Isadora, I'm Constantine Abelló," He said and stuck out his hand for me to shake. I shook it awkwardly and gave him a quick smile.

"And lastly we have my uncle and my mother's brother," Lucien said and I looked at the other man.

He was young, maybe late twenties with sandy, blonde hair and a cute boyish-ness to him.

"Hi, I'm Isadora. A pleasure to meet you," I reached to shake his had but he pulled me in and lightly kissed my cheek.

My eyes widened slightly in surprise and his action.
He slowly pulled away and gave me a charming smile.

"Nice to meet you, Isadora. I'm Alexander and the pleasure's all mine," He winked at me.

Oh, boy. Don't say I'm stuck with a flirter for the entire evening.

I glanced at Lucien and he was shooting daggers with his glare at Alexander.

Hmm, jealous much?

"Isadora, would you like some cognac?" Anna asked me and I turned to look at her.

"No thanks, I'm not quite thirsty," I answered.

"Okay, then. Why don't we sit ourselves down at the table because I think that dinner is going to be served in a few moments," Anna said and started making her way down to the dining table.

We all followed her and Lucien placed his hands around my waist and I looked up at him with my eyebrows raised in question. He didn't look at me and continued to walk to the table.

Yep, definitely jealous and loves to ignore me.
