Chapter Four: Bye Darrin
Vicky Parrish
Throughout the next year Darrin and I kinda split. We don't talk like we used to and we don't hang out. He's got his friends and I got mine.
"It's summer time Victoria you need to go outside." My mother said and I rolled my eyes.
"I don't want to go outside." I said quickly texting my friends back.
"Go outside and don't come back until dinner time." I was pulled from the couch and thrown outside.
Janay had texted me and told me to walk to her house. I didn't have a problem with that seeing as I have nothing to do.
"Hey." I said sitting on the front porch steps.
"I thought you'd never leave yo house especially in that." Janay eyed my outfit and rolled her eyes.
I looked down at my attire. A white tee shirt with some blue shorts and my white huaraches.
"Why you say that?" I asked her with a slight attitude.
"Cuz you so insecure about yo body it's ridiculous."
"I just don't walk out her like Tanisha in them little ass shorts and crop tops." I replied to her comment.
"You right." She said popping her gum.
Little did she know I hated my body deep down inside. I had gained a lot of weight since middle school. I had big thick thighs and a growing stomach. I wanted to be like skinny girls.

"Why did Keyshawn want us to walk to the basketball court anyway?" I asked Janay having a attitude.
"She wanted us to hang out with her. Stop being so boring."
"I'm just tired that's all."
"You always tired."
By the time we made it to the basketball court I spotted Keyshawn. Her braids sat in a bun and she had on a flower headband.
We sat on the bench watching little kids run around the park and boys play ball. But one guy caught my eye.
"Girl, is that Darrin over there?" I asked Keyshawn and Janay.
I didn't have my ugly glasses on.
"Yeah that is him. Y'all haven't spoken since the eight grade right?" Key asked me and I nodded.
"Who is that girl with him?" I was squinting so hard.
"That's Tanisha hoe ass." Janay said and I rolled my eyes.
"Why is he fucking with her?" I asked myself.
"They been fucking with each other since ninth grade." Keyshawn filled me in on their relationship.
I guess it's my fault since we never talked after the first couple months of high school. With tenth grade coming up I knew he would still be fucking with Tanisha.
"Look at them looking like a actual couple. That should be you." Janay said and I cringed.
"I don't need a boyfriend and when I get one it certainly won't be him."
I guess Darrin felt eyes on him. He turned and looked over at us. He went back to Tanisha like I never existed.
"Damn not even a hi or a smile or a wave. I see where our friendship stands." I acknowledged.
"Just give him some time. He'll come back around."
"Yeah whatever."

It was going on seven in the evening. Keyshawn, Janay, and I sat on Janay's front porch talking.
Suddenly March Madness by Future was playing through the speakers of my phone. I knew who was callin me.
"Who's that?" Janay asked.
"Darrin."
"Answer it!" Keyshawn pressed but I shook my head no.
The song stopped and I knew he hung up. But then it started playing again. He wasn't giving up.
"If you don't answer it I will." Janay said and I took out my phone.
I slide my finger across the screen and put him on speaker.
"Victoria?" Darrin asked.
"I'd still like to be called Vicky. Speaking of calling why are you calling me?" I asked not really wanting to talk.
"We haven't spoken to each other in like almost two years. What happened?" His voice had gotten deeper the last time I had spoken to him.
"You tell me." I was trying not to speak to him in a spiteful way but everyone knows I had a attitude problem.
"Wassup wit the attitude Vicky? Every time you got a attitude I know you mad. So what you mad about?" He spoke.
"You fucking with Tanisha now?" I rolled my eyes and changed the subject.
"Yeah, why you askin?"
"I told you she's a hoe Darrin."
"Last time I checked you ain't my girlfriend."
"I see how it is, bye Darrin." With that I hung up on him.
He didn't call me back after that and I wasn't trying to talk to him either. He turned into this new person and I didn't like it.
"Damn you did him dirty." Janay laughed as I got up and headed home.
"See y'all tomorrow or something." I said walking down the street to my house.
I watched as Darrin walked across the street with his friend Reggie. At least their still friends. Darrin caught me looking at him as I walked up to my front door.
I slammed the front door shut and walked into the kitchen. My mom gave me a look .
"What?!" I asked mad at everyone right now.
"You need to fix that little attitude. I brought you in this world I can take you out." She responded and my dad walked into the room.
"Man whatever. Did you finish dinner?" I asked.
She didn't respond and I opened the refrigerator. We had leftover chicken and sting beans. I settled for that.
"Why you come up in here like that Victoria?" My dad asked and I rolled my eyes.
"Darrin lil ass wanna play games." I said and got popped in my mouth by my mom.
"Sorry." I muttered.
I cleared my throat. "Darrin and I aren't really friends right now."
Darrin Thomas
I watched as Victoria slammed her front door. I shook my head. She's still the same.
"Looks like ya girlfriend mad." Reggie said as we waited at the bus stop.
"That ain't my girlfriend."
Victoria would never be my girlfriend. We were just two different people with different likings.
"Y'all would be cute as fuck. Shit ain't nobody trynna cuff her." Reggie replied and I rolled my eyes.
"Shut up." I said playfully pushing him.
"I'm mean she did get sexy. Her tits are just so big and perfect. You see her thighs. The way her body is so curvy and delicious." Reggie said.
I smacked him because I didn't want him talking about Victoria like that. They way he said those things made me sick to my stomach.
"Okay I'll stop." Reggie laughed.
Something was different about Victoria. I just needed to find out. But she wouldn't let me back into her life.
