A new house
Sam Evans, a shy & quite short almost 10-year-old boy was moving into a new house & a totally new town together with his parents Martin & Patricia Evans. He was a slim kid with black hair & brown eyes and only his two best friends he left in his old hometown knew how funny he could be when he felt safe enough at someone's presence... That's why he was missing them so much. And he wasn't happy about the fact that he would have to go to a new school soon...
He was sitting quietly on the back seat of their car looking through the window and thinking about his old house & the old life they've left behind for most of the time when they were on their way to their new house in a different place he didn't know & has never been to before.
Unlike him, his parents were both in a good mood that day. His father was driving a car proud of himself and whistling quietly from time to time and his mother was smiling happily all the time. So Sam seemed to be the only person in the whole family who wasn't happy about their moving into a new house and starting a new life. But he wasn't complaining, he was just sitting there with a sad face, not saying a word since they got into their car & left their old town, so his father noticed that something was wrong & decided to start a conversation to cheer his son up. Martin looked at the car mirror, noticed his son's sad face and asked him 'What's up, Buddy? What does this sad face mean?'.
'Not much, dad' answered Sam 'I am just sad that we left our old house. - I was born there! And now we're going to a different town... I don't know anyone in this place'. 'You know that we had no choice' answered Martin 'My company is prospering and I am one of their best workers - so my boss sent me to this town after I got a pay raise. I am to represent our company in their new developing branch here because they trust me. I couldn't say 'no'. Sam looked at Marin & answered sadly 'I know, dad' so Patricia joined the family conversation & told her son 'You should be proud of your father, Sam'. She gave her husband a big smile while saying that and Sam answered 'I am proud, Mom... I really AM!... But I'll be missing Jimmy & Mark! - I don't want to lose My Friends!'.
'And you won't lose them!' Martin assured him 'You can call them everyday or have Skype conversations with them as often as you want to so you will always know what's new'. 'Maybe you're right...' Sam smiled a little 'But I won't be able to Play with them anymore...' . The little boy's face went sad again so his mother told him 'Don't worry, Sweetie! - I'm sure you'll find many new friends in your new school you're going to start'. 'And I'm not so sure about that...' answered Sam 'I liked my old school'. 'So you will like your New School too!' said Martin with a smile. 'You think so, dad?' asked Sam. 'Not only 'think' - I KNOW IT!' was Martin's answer. 'Come on, Family - let's sing something together to make our way more bearable' he encouraged his wife & son. Sam liked to sing with his family cause they all could sing well & he always found it funny, so singing with his parents on their way to the new house quickly made him feel better & he soon started to smile... The whole car soon got filled with nice music without turning on the radio cause 3 happy voices were singing their favourite songs together & all of them enjoing it! But Sam was always the one who enjoyed it the most...
... He stopped worrying and the way seemed to last twice as short as it really did, because he focused on something else. They soon arrived to a beautiful new house they were to move in & as soon as they got out of the car Sam asked his parents 'Should I help you carry our suitcases into the house?'. Martin answered 'No, thanks, Buddy - I guess they would be too heavy for you'. 'Your father is right' confirmed Patricia opening their new house door 'But you can walk around our new house & see all the rooms - including your room, if you want to'. 'Ok, cool. -And where is my room?' Sam asked her & entered the house. 'Go up the stairs & turn left & you will find it' Patricia instructed him.
'Thanks, mom' answered Sam and they all laughed because his father took two first suitcases out of the car, carried them into the house, shouted happily 'Honey! - We're Ho-ome!' & put the suitcases on the floor. Right after that Patricia helped Martin carry all of their luggage into the house - so they both had to walk to the car & back a few times - & Sam went to explore the house. He walked into the kitchen, then into the big living room, he also found the bathroom, the double bed bedroom and two other rooms downsairs and went to see his room and 3 other small rooms upstairs. After that he went downstairs again with a big smile on his face so his mother asked him 'So? As you like our new house, son?'. Sam's eyes shone with happiness & his answer was 'It's Great!'. 'Ok, so let's all eat something now. We had a long way - & I'm starving!' said Martin. His wife & son first laughed shorty then Sam agreed saying 'Me too'. 'You're both right, it's time to eat - & I am hungry too' said Patricia. She took some sandwiches she made for their way out of her bag with food supplies and handed them to the family.
They all went to the kitchen, sat at the table together & before they started to eat those sandwiches Patricia told them 'I'll cook you something better for supper, I promise'. Her husband & son smiled at her and Sam answered 'I'm sure about that, mom! You cook fantastic - & even sandwiches made by you are my favourite!'. He started to eat his sandwich & smiled wide at her, she smiled back at him and Martin told her 'Mine too!' so she smiled again'. A second later Patricia's husband raised his sandwich as if it was a glass of wine during a toast at some celebration, looked at his wife & son and told them 'Dear family, let's celebrate this happy moment - it's our First Meal we eat in our New House!'. Patricia nodded & smiled and Sam said 'You're Right'! and they all ate their sandwiches, happy about being together & about a good start of their new life.
