The Power Source (Homecoming)

The next day, Peter showed me and Ned some unusual gadget he found the night before. "Hey, thanks for bailing on us." Ned said sarcastically. "Well, something came up." Peter explains. "What is that?" I asked. "I don't know. Some guy tried to vaporize me with it." Peter replied, trying to disassemble it. "Awesome!" Ned exclaimed, causing Peter and I to glare at him. "I mean, not awesome. Totally uncool of that guy." "I think it's a power source." Peter said. "Yeah, but it's connected to all these microprocessors." I explained. "And that's an inductive charging plate." Ned added. "That's what I use to charge my toothbrush." "Whoever's using these weapons is obviously combing alien tech with ours." Peter continued. "That is literally the coolest sentence anyone has ever said." Ned commented. "I just wanna thank you for letting me be part of your journey into this amazing..." All of a sudden, Peter used a hammer to disarm the power source. "Keep your fingers clear of the blades." The teacher warned. "I gotta figure out what this thing is and who makes it." Peter said. "We'll go to the lab after class and run some tests." I explained. "Let's do it." Peter replied, bringing me and Ned into our handshake.

After class, we were headed to the lab to run the tests on the source. "First, we put the glowy thing in the mass spectrometer." Ned explains. "First, we gotta come up with a better name than "glowy thingy."" I said. "You're right." Ned nodded. "Crap." Peter whispered, hiding behind a wall. "Come on, come on." We hid behind Peter as two men walked in the hall. "High schools creep me out." One of the guys commented. "They got this funny smell, you know what I mean?" "Hey, that's one of the guys that tried to kill me." Peter whispered. "What?" Ned asked. "We gotta get outta here." I explained. "No, I gotta follow them." Peter said. "Maybe they can lead me to the guy that dropped me in the lake." "Someone dropped you in a lake?" Ned wondered. "Yeah, it was not good." Peter replied. "At least it wasn't an ocean." I whispered. "If there would've been blood on you, you'd be so screwed." Peter began following those guys once the coast was clear. "Peter!" Ned and I warned with a whisper. "No. Stay there, guys." Peter said. After he left, a kid from the chess club knocked on the window. "What are you doing?" The kid asked. "Nothing." I lied. "Yeah, you good?" Ned wondered. "Chess." He replied.

Back at Peter's house, he showed us a tracker he snuck on the targets in the wood shop. "This is so awesome." Ned comments. "I know, right?" Peter asked. "Guys, they're in Brooklyn." I explained.

Later that night, the alarm from the tracker went off. Those guys were in Maryland according to the tracker. "They stopped." I yawned. "Maryland?" Peter asked. "What's there?" I asked. "I don't know." Peter replied. "Evil lair." "They have a lair?" Ned wondered. He was also wearing Peter's mask for some reason. "Dude, a gang with alien guns run by a guy with wings? Yeah, they have a lair." Peter responded. "Badass." I said. "But, how are you gonna get there if it's, like, 300 miles away?" We looked at the decathlon poster in the room. "It's not too far from DC." Peter explains.
