Nowhere To Go But Down (Homecoming)

At school the next morning, Peter met up with all of us at the bus. "Hey guys, I was hoping I could rejoin the team." Peter said. "No way." Flash refuses. "You can't just quit on us, stroll up and be welcomed back by everyone." "Hey, welcome back, Peter." Mr Harrington greeted. "Flash, you're back to first alternate." "Excuse me, can we go already?" Michelle asked. "I was hoping to get in some protesting in front of an embassy before dinner." "Protesting is patriotic." Mr Harrington replied. "Let's get in the bus."

While we were on the bus, Liz was quizzing us to help us prepare for nationals. Nothing too exciting.

Once we arrived in Washington DC, Mr Harrington got us all checked in. The hotel we were staying at was huge. "Hey, you brought your laptop, right?" Peter asked. "Why?" Ned wondered. "Did you find something?" I questioned.

Once I got my things settled in the hotel room, I went to Peter and Ned's room. Peter was working on his suit. "Peter, why are we removing the tracker from your suit?" I asked. "Because, I gotta follow these guys to their boss before they move again." Peter explains. "And I don't really want Mr Stark to know about it." "So, you're lying to Iron Man now?" Ned asked. "No, I'm not lying. He just doesn't get what I can do yet." Peter replied. "Alright, Happy, enjoy tracking this lamp." "There's a ton of other subsystems in here, but, they're all disabled by the Training Wheels Protocol." Ned explains. "What? Training Wheels Protocol?" Peter asked. "Turn it off." "I don't think that's a good idea." Ned warned. "They're blocked for a reason." "Come on, man, I don't need training wheels." Peter complained. "I'm sick of him treating me like a kid all the time. It's not cool." "But, you are a kid." I recalled. "Yeah, a kid that can stop a bus with his bare hands." Peter said. "Peter, I just don't think this is a good idea." Ned repeated. "Ned's got a point." I added. "I mean, what if it's illegal?" "Look, please." Peter begged. "This is my chance to prove myself. Guys, come on." "I really don't think this is a good idea." I said. "The guy in the chair." Peter begged. "Don't do that." Ned rolled his eyes. "Come on." Peter repeated. Ned hesitates, but decided to disable the training wheels.

Once Peter suited up, he told us to protect the power source as evidence. "Good luck." I said. "Be careful." Ned added.

The next morning, the first thing I did was check on my friends. "Hey, Ned. I brought you and Peter a breakfast burrito and a bagel." I greeted, looking around, only seeing Ned. "Did Peter come back last night?" "No, and without his tracker, I can't find his location." Ned replied. "Ned, Dawn, Peter, we're gonna be late." Liz called, knocking on the door. "Come on, let's go." "Hold on, just a sec." Ned replied, grabbing the alien power source and gave it to me. "Guard it will your life."

It was time for the decathlon to begin. All of us were required to turn in our phones, but that didn't stop me from turning in the glowing thing. All Ned and I had on our minds was Peter coming back safe. While we were in a sudden death round, Michelle buzzed in with the winning answer.

After the decathlon, we all decided to tour the Washington monument. "Told you we didn't need Peter." Flash bragged. "Flash, you didn't answer a single question." Ned groaned. Once we got inside the monument, I returned a call from Peter. "Oh, Dawn, you and Ned are alive!" Peter sighed in relief. "Peter, are you okay?" I asked. "Where's the glowy thing?" Peter panicked. "Don't worry, it's safe." I explained. "Ned put it in his backpack." "Guys, listen. The glowy thing is dangerous." Peter warned. "You missed the decathlon. Ned and I covered for you." I said. " I even got you some breakfast this morning. Of course, Ned ate it, but that's something different." "Is that Peter?" Liz asked, taking my phone. I took my phone after Liz went through the metal detector, only to notice that Peter was disconnected.

The tour guide took us in the elevator. "Hey, Mr Harrington, can I be the one who tells Peter he's expelled?" Flash asked. All of us ignored his question as the elevator went up. "The Washington monument is 555 feet 5 1/8 inches tall." The tour guide explains. "Notice how the marble and granite are cut around the stone." All of a sudden, the elevator was shaking. "What the hell was that?" I asked. "Oh, my God, look at the ceiling." Flash gasped. "Just stay calm, everyone." Liz said. "Oh, we're all going to die up here." Abe said. "We're freaking screwed." Charles added. "Okay, I know that was scary, but our safety systems are working." Our tour guide explains. "We're very safe in here." "I think one of the cables just snapped." I breathed heavily. Cindy opened a hatch she found with the tour guide and she escaped with Charles, Sally, and Abe. As Flash was trying to escape with the decathlon trophy, the elevator was shaking again. The last cable collapsed just after Flash could escape, leaving me, Liz, Mr Harrington, and Ned, about to plummet to our death. I grabbed onto Ned's hand in fear, breathing what might be my last few breaths. That's when the elevator began slowing down for a second, until it sped up again. All of a sudden, Spider-Man saved us by shooting a web at the ceiling. "Don't worry, I got you." He said. "Yes, yes!" Ned cheered. "Hey, big guy, quit moving around." He begged. "I'm sorry, sir." Ned apologized. Spider-Man was able to get us out and miraculously rescue Liz from the elevator. Although, his web snapped. "Are you friends with Peter Parker?" Flash asked.
