The elevator door opened, Rapunzel leaning against the wall and Jackson standing across from her. She didn't want to talk. She felt awful about what she did. Hopefully, Walter wouldn't find it and send it.
She slowly walked out, her arms crossed in front of her chest. "Good night," Jackson called. She didn't reply, still feeling guilty as the doors shut behind her. Jackson stuck his hand out, stopping the door from shutting. "Raps?"
She turned around to face him. God, she felt terrible. She stared into his caring blue eyes. "This thing mean that much to you?" He asked.
"Yes." She softly answered as she nodded her head.
Jackson nodded his head then walked towards her. "Come on. We'll use the phone in your room," he stated. She followed behind him, hoping that maybe this would work. "Walter's probably not even asleep. We'll call the house. I'll drive you up there." He explained as they headed towards her room.
"Thank you!" She cried as she hugged him from behind. He laughed as she weighed him down. He was crouched over, her laying on his back.
"I'll drive you up there, we'll get the right key-"
"Oh, yes."
"and we'll go back down to the office." He finished.
"Okay." She smiled as she let go. Thank god. Thank god for this! He smiled, looking at her. He was glad he could maybe help her.
"If I fall asleep on the altar tomorrow, you better be there to-"
"Oh, I'll be there!" She exclaimed as she ran to her door. She had to get things straightened out. Now Jackson wouldn't get fired and everything would go as planned. Jackson trailed behind her, opening a few letters.
"These are all from Eric," He mumbled to himself. Rapunzel unlocked the door as he pulled out another sheet of paper. "This fax is from Eric, too."
Rapunzel opened the door and didn't hear a word he said. She was too busy concentrating on what she would do to get it deleted. "My wedding, you'd think my boss would leave me alone." He teased. She shut the door behind him.
"Maybe it's a congratulations." She offered. There was no way that her message would have been sent by now. Plus, there's no way that Eric actually had time to reply even if it sent. It had to be something else.
Rapunzel let out a sigh of relief as she sat down on the couch. Jackson walked towards the phone as he unfolded the letter. He was curious about what it said and wanted to open it now. He ran his fingers through his hair as he read the letter over and over again.
Jackson was silent for a long time. "What is it?" Rapunzel questioned. Jackson was never that quiet, especially when it involved his job. He looked down at the letter then back at Rapunzel. How was he supposed to tell her this?
He looked back down, deciding to read it out loud. "'Jack, I can't believe I'm doing this to you on the night before your wedding, but I think you need and deserve to know what you're marrying into.'" He read, looking into Rapunzel's eyes.
What? There's no way. She snatched the letter out of his hands, wanting to see it for herself. "'I received the following e-mail this afternoon,'" she started as she followed him to the phone. "'Eric, I need a favor. My daughter's every...'" She trailed as she realized what she did.
Oh god. Nonono. That wasn't supposed to send. That wasn't supposed to send! Goddamn it! Why did she have to be so stupid? She stood in shock as Jackson called the house. "Isabelle, I need to talk to Elsa." He commanded.
Rapunzel looked back down at the paper. Guilt was taking over. All she could do was read her words over and over again. "No, I'm just tired. Please, put her on. Thanks." Jackson begged. He looked at Rapunzel, wondering what she thought.
"Raps," he stated, getting her attention. She looked up, trying not to act suspicious. God, if only she could go back in time. "Could you give me a minute?" He asked, looking down at the table.
She knew this had to be hard. She stood still, unsure what to say or do. She felt horrible. She was the worst human being to ever walk on this earth. "Please." Jackson added, slightly raising his voice.
She walked towards the door and let out a long sigh. God, she was malicious. She was vile. She was cruel and nasty. She slowly shut the door behind her and stood in the hall. She couldn't even think of anymore words to describe her atrocious personality.
She slid down the door and stared at the floor. She just ruined a marriage. She didn't just steal the husband, no, she did it in the cruelest way possible. She set her bag down and ran her hand over her face. What was wrong with her?
Suddenly, she had an urge. She dug through her bag, trying to find what she needed. She pulled out her pack of cigarettes and hastily lit one. She closed her eyes and let out the smoke.
A bag boy walked down the hall and noticed her. She thought he was going to just walk by, but he stopped a few feet away. "Excuse me, miss? Are you locked out?"
"No, no, no. Um, just stepped out," she explained. She cleared her throat. "It's a no-smoking room."
The man nodded his head and pulled down his vest. "Uh, well, it's... It's a nonsmoking floor, too," he replied. Rapunzel stared forward and puffed out her toxic fumes. "Um, maybe you could go down to the lobby?" He offered.
"Why don't you have me arrested?" She asked. She wanted to get away. He raised his eyebrows, surprised by her request. "I mean it," she softly added. "I am a dangerous, criminal person. I do bad things to honest people." She declared as she brought her cigarette back to her lips.
"You could make a citizen's arrest. I wouldn't struggle," she added again, her voice getting softer. "It'd be like getting Al Capone on tax evasion." Her voice cracked. He frowned and walked towards her. He knelt down in front of her, not afraid of her.
"Can I help you, miss?" He asked. They were silent for a long time, staring at each other. She studied his outfit and everything about him.
"Do you smoke, 'Richard'?" She questioned, reading his name tag.
"Yes, I do, but I'm-"
"It's a nonsmoking floor." She nodded understanding what he was getting at.
"Yep." He replied, nodding his head.
"Yeah."
"Yeah."
Rapunzel looked at him and twisted her cigarette in her hand. "But you know what?" She softly spoke. She held it out for him, waiting for him to take it. Everyone need a smoke once in a while.
He looked around then hesitantly took it. He could get fired for this, but he didn't care. He brought it took his lips, taking a nice long inhale. He let it all out, staring at Rapunzel. She gave a soft smile then took it back.
"You know, my grandmother always said, 'This, too, shall pass.'" He replied, trying to give her some encouragement. Rapunzel smiled and nodded her head.
"Thanks, Richard."
He gave her a toothy smile then walked away. He turned around and sent a small wave to her. She nodded her head as he turned the hall. She sat in silence, staring at the pattern on the hallway. She let out another puff of smoke as the door opened. "Oh!" She groaned as her back and head hit the floor.
She looked up and stared into Jackson's blue eyes. He took the cigarette out of her hands. "I want you to quit this shit," He softly declared as he put it out. "It'll kill ya." He added. She gulped, debating about if she should ask her question.
"What happened?"
Jackson took a deep breath and bent down beside her. "It's over. She denied it. She said I was crazy and paranoid."
Rapunzel slightly raised her eyebrows. "A bad combination." She replied.
"There's a big, uh, brunch tomorrow morning at her parents' house. And she said, 'How can I call it off? How can I... What am I supposed to tell everyone?'" Jackson voiced cracked.
"Oh, Jackson."
"No, it's for the best. It really is," he quickly replied. He stared down at his hands. "She was right." He softly spoke. They sat in silence for a long time.
"I am crazy," he clarified. "To fall for someone I hardly knew." Everything he had ever known was a lie. He thought Elsa was the sweetest, kindest girl you could ever meet. But he was wrong. She went behind his back and tried to get him fired.
"I'm so glad you're here." He spoke again. Rapunzel knew that was a compliment, but it didn't feel like it, not after what she's done. If he knew who really sent that, he would be wishing she was dead.
He let out a long sigh, trying to hold back the tears. His heart was breaking. He loved her. He loved Elsa soo much and it turns out that she wasn't the woman he thought she was. She was nothing but a big, stupid lie. "Hey, uh, you still got that ring?" He suddenly asked.
Rapunzel slightly chuckled, thinking about it. Then she scowled. How was she supposed to tell him this? She softly giggled, trying to make it sound like it was a funny story. "Um, I-I tried it on, and it won't come off." She stuttered, holding up her hand. Suddenly, tears began to form in her eyes.
She was a terrible person and her emotions were finally getting to her. She just wanted to cry in peace. Jackson gently reached out and grabbed her hand. He slipped the ring off with his mouth. She softly laughed as he moved the ring to the front of his mouth so he could take it out.
Rapunzel traced the spot were the ring used to be. Her hand felt empty, just like her heart. Jackson stared at the ring, wondering about everything he's ever known. He slowly stood up and looked around. Rapunzel quickly followed. "Why don't we take a walk or have some food sent up or something?" She offered.
"Um, I just want to be alone," He mumbled. "Is that okay?"
"Sure."
Jackson shook out his hair and looked at the floor. He stuttered a little, thinking about what to say. "Maybe I'll, um... Maybe I'll go back to New York for a while and hang with you. Eric'll understand. Or we could-"
"Yeah." She smiled.
"go somewhere if you want." He finished.
"If San Antonio sweeps Sacramento," she grinned. "I've never been to Texas."
Jackson looked at the floor, unsure what to say. "Yeah," He mumbled as he exited. She stood in the doorway when she heard his chilling voice. "Someday. When I'm awfully low. When the world is cold. I will feel a glow. Just thinking of you." He sang as he walked down the halls. That was their song.
Rapunzel's eyes teared up. She got the man of her dreams. But did she want it like this? Did she want to have him after he went through this heartbreak? God, what was wrong with her? She walked into her room and shut the door, trying to ignore his singing. She stared at the door, wondering what was to happen next.
