From the street, you could hear the pounding of the bass. The group walked down the sidewalk, headed wherever Rapunzel was taking them. They entered the bar, listening to the sound of off-key singing. "Karaoke!" Jackson exclaimed. "Where'd you find this place?"
"The doorman told me. And you are singing thee song." Rapunzel explained as they walked through the bar. Elsa stood in shock as Rapunzel and Jackson dragged her through the crowds.
They sat down at a table, listening to a guy sing with all of his heart. When he ended, Rapunzel and Jackson were quick to applaud him along with the rest of the crowd. It took a lot of guts to sing in front of others. Elsa stared forward, only clapping because others were.
Rapunzel reached her arm across the table, slightly grabbing Elsa's wrist. "I didn't realize this was a karaoke bar." She whispered, trying to make Elsa think this was an accident. Elsa nervously chuckled, afraid of what might happen.
"This is so great. My two best girls." Jackson smiled.
"You folks thirsty?" A waitress asked as she approached the table. Jackson and Rapunzel turned around, facing the waitress.
"Margarita." They replied together. They turned and looked at each other, knowing what the other wanted.
"Blended, no salt." Rapunzel stated as she pointed at Jackson.
"She wants it straight up." Jackson stated at the same time as Rapunzel.
Waitress looked over at Elsa. She was patiently sitting there, her purse still sitting on her lap. "And you?"
"Uh, Amstel Light." She answered, messing with the button on her purse. She was trying to distract herself from everything that was happening. Not only was she sitting in a karaoke bar, but she was watching her fiancé ramble off her maid of honor's order by heart.
"Two words for you." Rapunzel started as she looked at Jackson. She was ignoring Elsa, hoping that maybe she would crack.
"Huh?" He smiled, wanting to know what Rapunzel was thinking. Elsa fidgeted across the table, nervous about what was happening.
"Margarita." She continued, smiling at her best friend.
"Yeah." He nodded. Elsa looked between the two of them. She was beginning to feel left out.
"Vespa." Rapunzel grinned, holding up two fingers. They began laughing. Rapunzel slapped her hand on the table, trying to holding in her laughs. Elsa scooted closer to them.
"Florence," Jackson chuckled. Rapunzel nodded her head, liking what he was saying. She was laughing, glad that he was remembering her memory. "Firenze!" He shouted. Elsa smiled, glad that Jackson was having fun.
"Me hanging on in the rain all night." Rapunzel laughed, slapping her leg. God, that memory was great. Elsa frowned when Rapunzel started talking again. She had to join in the conversation.
"I love Florence." She replied, hoping to be allowed into their memory.
"And the guy with the thing..." Jackson trailed as Rapunzel laughed along. The two burst out laughing, not even trying to hold it back. Elsa felt ignored by her fiancé. She didn't like this situation.
"'Where's my pass?'" Rapunzel mocked as she imitated the guy.
"'No! The pier is for fishing!'" Jackson added, mocking the guy's accent. Elsa smiled in the background, still happy that Jackson was happy and having fun. But she didn't like being left out.
"'French kissing?'"
"'Fishing!'"
"I've always loved Florence." She tried again. This time Jackson noticed her. He looked across the table, smiling at his fiancé. Rapunzel's smile slowly faded as she remembered Elsa.
"Well, you should take her there. She's perky. She deserves a honeymoon." Rapunzel stated as Jackson moved his chair closer to Elsa again.
"Oh, yeah, well-"
"'Oh, yeah, well-'" Rapunzel mocked. "'If San Antonio sweeps Sacramento...'" Rapunzel replied, quoting Elsa."What is that? I mean, you're off the road in September. And when does fall quarter start for you?" She asking, pointing to Elsa.
Jackson looked at Elsa, wondering how she would reply. "Uh, I'm not coming back senior year." She explained. She hoped that Rapunzel would understand this time and not twist her words again.
"Oh," Rapunzel replied, looking down at the table. She glanced back up, confused. "Don't architects find a degree sort of an asset?" She giggled, making Elsa laugh.
Jackson decided to butt in, giving his input on the situation. "I travel every week. Got college ball, motor sports, training camps."
"Yeah, I think the most important thing is for us to be together." Elsa finished, nodding her head. Jackson and Elsa had planned this out a while back. Jackson loved his job and she loved him. She was willing to travel with him.
"Say, pinky, I wanna hear you sing," A drunk woman declared as she grabbed onto Elsa's shoulder. She was holding onto the microphone, trying to hand it to Elsa. Elsa laughed, hoping the woman was just kidding. "Come on!"
"No, thank you." Elsa refused, shaking her head. She was not going to sing tonight. She couldn't carry a tune. She couldn't sing!
Rapunzel reached over and grabbed the microphone out of Jackson's hand. "No, Elsie hates to sing," She growled. "She hates it."
Jackson nodded, thinking he was understanding what Rapunzel was getting at. "Ah. Uh-huh. Oh. Yeah?" He smiled. He snatched it back out of Rapunzel's hands, standing up. "All right, folks."
"Jackson, no." Elsa quickly argued. Rapunzel smiled, her plan falling into place.
He continued talking, ignoring her pleads. She didn't want to embarrass herself. "Everybody, my bride-to-be here is about to kick some ass." He grinned as the crowd whooped.
"Nononono." She refused, shaking her head. She thought she was going to throw up. She could feel her stomach churning and her heart beginning to race.
"What? No, it'll be fun." He replied.
"No, no, no. Jackson. She doesn't want to, Jackson. Leave her alone. Come on." Rapunzel butted in, stealing the microphone away from him again. She stood up as he sat down. Elsa was panting as her hands began to shake. "Ladies and gentlemen. Please give it up for the dazzling vocal stylings of Miss Elsa Delle!"
Elsa's blue eyes widen. What? She thought Rapunzel was on her side. Rapunzel gave her a wide grin as the crowd began to cheer. Rapunzel handed the microphone to her. Elsa anxiously smiled and shook her head. Oh boy. It was getting really dizzy in here. "Come on!" Rapunzel encouraged, although Elsa thought it sounded more like a taunt.
She glared at Jackson and Rapunzel as she tried to catch her breath. She wasn't going to sing in front of everybody. She took the microphone that was waving around in her face. People clapped as she anxiously looked around. She looked like she was about to cry.
Slow music began to play as she tightly held the microphone in her hands. She stared around the room, her fear taking over her body. She stood up, her legs beginning to feel like jelly. Rapunzel leaned back in her chair, ready to watch this all unfold.
Elsa held the microphone far away from her mouth. She didn't want to do this. She told Rapunzel she hated karaoke bars. She looked at the tv screen to read the lyrics. Maybe that would distract her. "I just don't know what to do with myself. Don't know what to do with myself." She flatly sang.
Microphone gave feedback as she moved around. She was cracking under the pressure and Rapunzel was loving it. She kept a straight face, trying not to let on that she set up Elsa. God, Elsa was right. She really can't carry a tune. "I'm so used to doing everything for you."
Jackson stared up at her in awe. He didn't know she could sing so well. Her voice reminded him of an angel. And she looked drop dead gorgeous right now. Her beautiful blonde hair and bright blue eyes. "You suck!" A woman called out. Jackson turned and glared at her.
"Planning everything for two." She continued singing, fear plastered on her face. She had tears in her eyes. She blocked all of the comments. All she could hear was her heart beating in her ears. She knew she sounded awful.
"Next!" A man shouted.
"And now that we're through. I just don't know what to do with my time." She sang. She took a shaky breath. She thought she might throw up all over Jack and embarrass herself more.
"You suck!" Another man spat.
"I'm so lonesome for you it's a crime. Going to the movies..." She shakily sang. She laughed, knowing how dumb she sounded. She could hardly even sing she was so scared. Laughing was the only thing that made it feel better.
Some people in the crowd began to cheer. She had guts. Rapunzel cocked her eyebrow, confused about what was happening. This was definitely not the plan. "Only makes me sad. Parties make me feel as bad when I'm not with you." She laughed, making more people cheer.
Rapunzel looked around, watching people smile and laugh. They weren't laughing at her anymore. They were laughing with her! She glanced over at Jackson to see his big blue eyes staring at her. His jaw was dropped, showing his awe for her. "I don't know what to do. I just don't know what to do with myself."
The crowd began to clap along as Elsa danced. She didn't care what everyone thought anymore. She was actually having fun, even though it was really embarrassing. "Don't know just what to do with myself. If your new love ever turns you down. Come back I will be around!" She belted.
Jackson smiled and looked over at Rapunzel. He thought Elsa was angelic. Rapunzel gave him a soft smile. How did this awful singer get this crowd to join in with her? This just didn't make any sense. "Just waiting for you! I just don't know what to do with myself. Like a summer rose." She giggled and swayed her hips. The crowd cheered, loving her enthusiasm.
"All right!" Jackson cheered.
"Yeah!" A woman shouted from the back.
"I need your sweet love!" Rapunzel nodded her head. Surprised by this outcome. Elsa was right, she had a competitive drive. Turns out that Rapunzel just needs to work a little bit harder at it. Rapunzel went against her conscience and clapped along too.
"To ease all the pain," she vocalized as she sat down in her chair. The crowd began to cheer and whoop. Rapunzel couldn't see how. She thought that Elsa's voice sounded like nails scratching on a chalkboard.
"Wow!" Jackson clapped. He pulled Elsa towards him and they shared a long kiss. "That was just terrible!" He teased. "Terrible!" He laughed. He brought her in for another long kiss. All Rapunzel could do was sit and watch. Man, it sucks being a third wheel. Game on, Elsa. Game on.
