Chapter 48| Avoiding the Topic

'The Castle was so amazing.' Daanish exclaimed as the two stood in the crammed metro heading back home.

'Yeah!' Sana replied. She felt her headache. What a boring place?

Daanish frowned looking intently at her, - 'Why do I have a feeling you are lying?'

Sana looked at him, one look at him and she confessed. 'It was boring.' She said and then bit her lip. To her surprise, Daanish chuckled and hesitantly she smiled.

'Then you should have told me when we were making plans.' He said after he had stopped laughing.

Sana shrugged. 'I didn't want to upset you.' She said. Daanish nodded. They stood, facing each other in the metro. Sana clenched the rod tightly while Daanish held the rod too, his hand just a little above hers. Accidentally it slipped and Daanish held her hand. Sana gasped inwardly feeling his tight grip.

'Sorry.' He retracted his hand and just then he was accidentally pushed from behind and he fell over Sana. Quickly, he grabbed the rod again. 'Sorry.' He said again and sighed. Sana pressed her lips tightly but doesn't say anything.

The train stopped at one destination and few people squeezed their way out of the metro. This time again, Daanish's palm landed over Sana's. She ignored the tingling feeling. Daanish adjusted his glasses and looked at her.

'Sana.'

'Hmm.'

'Where you want to go?' He asked. Sana was surprised.

'I don't want to force my choices on you.' Daanish said seriously. Sana blinked at him. He kept urging her to say and finally, she said,

'Nadia keeps forcing her choices on you, right?' She asked eyeing him. She noted Daanish's expressions change. For a moment she thought she did a mistake asking him this.

'River Thames looks amazing after sunset.' Sana said leaning to her side, she rested her head on the rod. Daanish blinked at her and she smiled at him. He nodded.

'Okay.' He said and smiled at her.

*************************

'Amazing.' Daanish commented as the two walked on the pavement alongside the river. Sana nodded.

'It's really peaceful here.' Sana stopped and turned around. She placed her elbows on the railing and looked front at the river. Daanish stopped too. He tugged his palms into his pockets and exhaled deeply. Sana felt his arm brush against hers, she smiled little. It has got a little cold, but a pleasant gentle breeze fanned their faces. Sana looked at the water. Dark and calm. Something about it made her feel serene.

'I must admit your choice is better than mine.' Daanish admitted out of the blue. Sana turned her head and looked at him. He looked at her too.

'That Castle was good too.' Sana said hoping she made him feel better. Daanish chuckled shaking his head.

'I don't mind, really. Nadia says it so bluntly and, so I stopped suggesting anything.' – He sighed shaking his head again and then looked at Sana, - 'But you are too good, Sana.' He admitted. His voice, his words made Sana's heart to flutter. She simply smiled. He looked front again while she kept looking at him. For some reason, he looked sad.

Sana looked front for a moment and then looked at him again. 'Why do you let her dominate you?' She asked and Daanish looked at her. Sana had noticed this many times and now that Daanish has confessed she got the courage to point it out.

'She is not dominating.' Daanish said. His eyes betrayed him. Sana turned to face him. Tilting her head to one side she placed her hand on her hip.

'What?' Daanish shrugged.

Sana shook her head, - 'Why are you defending her?'

'I am not.'

'You are.'

Daanish sighed and turned around facing the river. 'Can we not talk about this.' He said looking front. Sana nodded and wrapped her arms around herself. She looked front and inhaled deeply. Right now, Daanish wasn't accepting it but Sana knew how snobbish and dominating Nadia was. He claims to love her, perhaps that was why he was overlooking her faults. But these faults can be deadly in a relationship. Or perhaps, Sana looked at him, he was pretending to be happy because Nadia was his parent's choice. Nevertheless, Sana doesn't probe him further. The two silently stared at the beautiful river for a while then quietly strolled the place.

They found many restaurants on their way, but none appealed to them. Sana felt her stomach rumbling and she hoped that Daanish didn't hear it.

'Italian Pizza?' Sana asked brightly. Daanish looked at her with his eyebrow raised. Sana shrugged.

'What? It is thin crusted and made with olive oil.' Sana said seriously.

'Hmmm.'

'Come on, you said my choice is better than yours.' She smirked at him.

Daanish smiled nodding, - 'But we are going to work out extra hard tomorrow.' Daanish warned her.

'Okay, whatever.' Sana grabbed his hand and entangled her arm with his. Then she dragged him with her.

*************************

Sana returned home. A bright smile on her face. She was tired from the whole day's outing but strangely she doesn't feel exhausted. She fell on the sofa and sighed dreamily. Recollecting the whole day's experience Sana's smile widened. After some time, she stretched, lifted her legs and stared at her knees. Then, she removed her sneakers and wriggled her toes. She felt relieved. She jumped up from her seat and picked up her sneakers then walked up to the shoe rack.

'I am not going to wear a short dress ever again in my life.' Sana said dropping her cloth into the laundry bag. She placed her palms on her hips and huffed. Then she remembered the embarrassing moment in the metro and felt embarrassed again.

She yawned and picked up her cotton two-piece PJs. After quickly wore her night clothes, she clipped her short hair neatly and walked out of the room. Sana was all smiles as she boiled water on the saucepan. But her smile faded when she recollected her conversation with Daanish. She remembered his sad face and shifted in her place. Nadia was a wonderful person, she loves him. She was concerned for him. It was clearly shown on her face how much worried she was when Daanish had injured himself. She had driven all the way to help him select the house. Sana has no doubt in her mind about Nadia's love for Daanish. But what was important here was if Daanish loves her.

Sana sighed, - Why am I thinking all this? She thought as she poured hot water into the teacup.

Daanish likes you

I have never talked so much with anyone. There is something different about you

Nanu and Daanish's words echoed in her head as she dipped the tea bag into the hot water.

Don't think all that Sana. He is engaged – Sana scolded herself.

After drinking the chamomile tea Sana felt refreshed. She sat on the bed and covered herself with the duvet and moved her hand up. She massaged the sides of her forehead and sighed.

She blinked at the ceiling for some time before closing her eyes. Shifting into her place she tried to fall asleep. Thanks to the whole day's exhaustion Sana fell asleep quickly.

****************************

TRING.... TRING....

Sana groaned burying her head in the pillow. Someone was calling her non-stop on her phone, but she hadn't bothered picking it up but now someone was ringing the door-bell to her flat. The person ringing the bell was so furious and adamant that Sana had to get up.

She cursed as she stepped down the bed and wore her fluffy slippers. She covered her open mouth with the back of her palm as she walked towards the door. The bell still ringing.

'Coming.' She said loudly, and the bell stopped. For a moment she considered going back to the comfort of her bed. It was Sunday after all and she needs her sleep. She had just turned around when the bell rang again.

Darn it! Sana stamped her feet angrily.

She opened the door.

'Good morning, Zafar.'

Sana's mouth dropped open upon seeing Daanish on the other side. Dressed in a tight-fitting maroon Tank top, black track pant and sneakers, he was ready for morning exercise.

Sana gaped at him.

'Come on, Zafar. Stop wasting time. I kept calling you, but you didn't pick up and so, I had to come here.' He said placing his palms on his hips. Sana continued to blink at him.

'Zafar.' Daanish said sternly.

'Yes, sir.' Sana stood in attention and saluted him.

'Good. Now come on. Get ready. I am waiting down.' – he pointed at his wristwatch, - 'Five minutes.' He gestured with his fingers. Sana nodded vigorously.
