Chapter 11| A Chivalrous Gentleman
Sana got busy supervising the designs. She was in charge and everything was on her shoulder. Luckily, everything was going well, so far. She was working on one of the models when she felt someone stand beside her. She doesn't look up and continued to adjust the sleeve of her dress.
'All good?' Adah's voice floated into her ear and Sana turned her head. Her gaze met Adah's and she nodded confidently.
'Yes, Maam.'
Adah smiled. 'Good.' - She then glanced at her watch and said, - 'Show is about to start. Your designs will be fifth in line,' – She looked up at Sana again, - 'The dresses are fine, hope the choreography is up to the mark too.' -She placed her palm on Sana's shoulder, - 'And for a change, you are looking beautiful.' She complimented. Sana smiled, a crimson red adorned her cheek.
Sana stood in the backstage with her finger's crossed. She kept praying everything goes well. One by one model wearing her designs cat-walked on the ramp. They were graceful and flaunted the dress with full confidence. Sana bit her lip and clasped her palms tightly, her eyes glued to the stage. Only after her set of models completed the walk did she breathe a sigh of relieve.
'Good Job.' Adah whispered from beside her. She patted Sana's shoulder. Sana nodded.
After her showstopper walked the ramp, Sana was supposed to walk the ramp with her as well. She gathered her team member of six and climbed on stage with them. She smiled nervously at first but once on stage she picked up little courage. Sana walked confidently with her team members and the gorgeous show stopper. She looked at the crowd with pride as they clapped for them. The anchor comes and shakes hands with them. They all then dispersed.

After her designs were over, Sana walked out of the back seat and took out her phone from her clutch purse and was about dial Alishba when someone stood beside her. She looked to her side.
Adah smiled little at her, - 'I knew you will pull this off. I am proud of you.' She said, and Sana smiled too.
'Thank you, Maam.'
Adah then turned around and walked to the other designers. Sana quickly typed a text message to Alishba
Sana: Save me a seat, I am coming.
She then texted her team members in the group chat and asked them to gather behind the stage with the models. She dropped her phone back into her purse and turned around walking to the backstage.
Sana waited patiently for the team members and the models to gather. They all looked visibly relieved and happy. She beamed at everyone.
She clasped her palms and began, - 'Well done, team.' She looked at the team, - 'Everything was perfect, the dress, make-up, performance. Excellent work, guys. Cheers to our success.' She said clapping her hands, everyone murmured excitedly and clapped. Sana moved her hand down and bit her smiling lower-lip.
After some pep talks and congratulating everyone Sana left the backstage. She looked at her phone and followed Alishba's description of their seat. She looked up, among the sea of people it was getting very difficult to look for her. Also, the heels were killing Sana and she needed to sit. Thankfully, she got a seat and sighed sitting down. She bent and removed her heels. She wriggled her toes feeling the blood rush back to then. What a relief? She leaned back and sighed.

After the fashion show was over, Sana waited for her friend and her fiancé near the coat stand. She hasn't collected her coat yet. Sometime later, she saw her friend walking towards her. When their gaze met, Alishba opened her arms and walked hurriedly towards her. She almost tripped but Aahil was quick to grab her waist and stop her fall. She looked embarrassed. Sana smiled and lifted her gown little and walked towards her friend. She stood in front of them and her eyes darted from Aahil to Alishba. She didn't want to but cleared her throat and their cute eye-lock was broken.
'Hey!' Alishba smiled widely and took Sana in a bone-crushing hug. Though, Alishba looks like a stick she was very strong. Sana felt short of breath.
'I am so proud of you.' She swayed with her friend in her arms. Sana simply nodded and patted her back.
'Sweetie, she got the point.' Aahil interrupted and separated the two. Sana looked gratefully at him and he winked at her. Alishba looked at Sana and apologized. Sana smiled and hugged her friend.
'Thanks for coming, Alishba.' She whispered. She closed her eyes on feeling Alishba wrap her arms around her.
Aahil got them their coats. Sana wore hers while he helped Alishba were hers. Sana watched them with a smile. Alishba hadn't cut down her waist-length tresses, Sana could make this out seeing the volume of her side-bun. Alishba and Aahil looked at each other and smiled. Made for each other, Sana was awed looking at them.

As they left the Hotel, Aahil suggested they celebrate. Alishba was quick to say yes. Sana was little hesitant because the couple must leave for India by tonight's flight itself. They had come to attend her show and that itself meant a lot to her.
'Arey, No.' - Alishba hit Sana's arm with her fist, - 'Tonight was your big day. We can't leave without celebrating.' She said brightly.
Sana kept refusing but when Aahil interrupted she gave up. She didn't want to argue with him.
'Okay.' She nodded. Alishba squealed happily.
Sana was impressed by the elegant diner Aahil had selected. Aahil said whenever he comes to London for any business purpose he usually opts for this place.
'The food and the wine are excellent.' He said as they drove to the place in a cab. Sana and Alishba looked at each other. Guessing from Alishba's expressions Sana knew she never tasted wine. Though Sana has drunk, only in some professional parties, she wasn't a big fan of wines. But she was looking forward to the food.

At the entrance of the posh Restaurant, a polite-looking gentleman at the counter asked them for their coats. They handed him their coats and together the trio walked with the waiter. Though, the place looked very hi-fi and was packed with people they got a seat. Thanks to Aahil having contacts here. No wonder he had selected this dinner. Aahil pulled a chair for Alishba while a waiter pulled a chair for Sana. The girls sat opposite each other while Aahil sat in between. The waiter handed them menu cards and left. Even the Menu card looked posh. Sana was very impressed. Both Sana and Alishba were from upper-middle-class family, but they never were pampered like this before.
Aahil didn't take time to decide. Alishba was confused and he helped her. Sana opted for seafood. She likes fish and it has been a long time since she had one.
'Good choice.' Aahil complimented her and Sana smiled little.
As they wait for their order, Sana felt little awkward with Alishba and Aahil's PDA. She kept looking everywhere, at times playing with the napkin on her lap or the salt stand. She was so thankful when the waiter arrived with their orders. He placed their orders on their sides. Sana watched Aahil uncap the Champagne bottle gracefully and pour generously into Alishba's and Sana's glass. Alishba politely refused. She decided to have water.
'Cheers to Sana and her success.' Aahil raised a toast. Sana extended her glass and Alishba extended her glass of water. The three clicked their glasses together and exclaimed in unison.
'Cheers!'
They drank the contents in one gulp. Sana chocked and Aahil looked at her concerned. She told him she was good. She wiped the corner of her lips with the napkin when Aahil announced, - 'Okay, girls. Dig in.' He smiled. Alishba laughed as though he has cracked the best joke ever, Sana simply smiled.
******************************
They had their dinner silently, with occasional PDA by the couple. Sana focused more on her food. After they were done, they got up from their seat. Aahil got them their coats and asked them to wait as he pays the bill.
'It was my treat, I will pay.' Sana insisted. She knew the bill was way past her league, but she didn't want them to know.
This will be half of my month's salary – Sana groaned inwardly.
Aahil insisted otherwise. After few tug and war of words between the two, Alishba stepped in and requested Sana to let Aahil pay. Inwardly, Sana was relieved but outwardly she forced a smile.
They drove to Sana's place. The cab halted in front of her building. Sana turned to look at Alishba, she wanted to show her flat but frowned on seeing her friend crying.
'Arey, what happened?' She shifted little towards her. Aahil also turned his head to look at her. Alishba sniffed shaking her head.
'I remembered the time we got separated before.' She said sadly.
Sana recollected that day and felt emotional as well. She shifted and placed her arm around Alishba, she pulled her closer and rubbed her palm gently, - 'Don't be sad. I will be there for your engagement.' She smiled widely.
'Really?' Alishba's head shot up.
Sana blinked nodding her head, - 'Just don't forget to send me an invite.' She winked at her.
'Sure.' Alishba hugged her. Sana hugged her friend back. The two separated and Sana bid good-bye to Aahil. The girls smiled at each other. Sana opened the door and climbed down. Aahil climbed down as well. They smiled nodding at each other. As Sana turned around, Aahil sat in the back seat. Sana turned back, waved at them. Alishba hunched and waved at her. Sana watched as the car sped away. She sighed and turned around.
Sana felt terribly tired as she entered her apartment. She locked the door and removed her coat. She hung it on the coat rack and remove her heels.
'Uff.' She exclaimed massaging her ankles and heels. The floor felt ice cold and she tiptoed till the living room. Quickly, she wore socks and stood up.
Sana doesn't waste time and quickly stripped from her gown. She shivered as she hurried to her wardrobe. In the chilly winter, it's a bad, bad idea to roam around in only one's underwear. Shivering she fished out her night clothes and quickly wore them.
Then she clipped her short hair and washed her face thoroughly to wipe out the make-up. After everything, Sana dropped face front on the bed. She sighed burying her head in the pillow. Though, she was tired she smiled wearily recollecting the success of her fashion show and Alishba's smiling face.
Sana's smile widened as she imagined her younger self and younger Daanish being all chivalrous with her. Making her wear a coat, pulling the chair for her, smiling at her, teasing her, playing with her fingers.
Then she frowned when the realization struck her. She shifted and lay on her back. She blinked up at the ceiling.
Why the hell am I thinking about him? It was just a passing crush – She thought to herself. Within seconds, her eye-lids fell droopy and she closed them drifting into her own sweet dreamland.
********************************
