Chapter Sixteen
"What do you want Jason?" I sigh into the phone.
"Just to talk to you."
"Well thanks to you idiotically showing up at my door last night we will be doing a lot of talking and planning. So unless that is what you called for I am hanging up."
"That's one of the things I wanted to talk about." he tells me.
"That is the only thing we will talk about." I say, my teeth gritted.
"Why are you still with Blaze?" he asks me suddenly.
"I told you that I will only discuss the planning of the party."
"I know you don't like him Jade. I don't know why you're dating him but it sure as hell isn't because you like him."
My eyes instantly harden and my heart feels heavy. Does he know? No. No, he couldn't.
"I don't know what you're talking about Jason and I don't think you do either. Believe it or not, I really care about Blaze and he feels the same about me. Stay out of my personal business. There is no room for you there."
"Bullshit."
"Excuse me?"
"That's bullshit and you know it Jade. You can't hate someone and then instantly act like you love them. It doesn't add up. You're not the type of girl to go for a guy like hi--"
"A guy like him? You don't know what you're talking about Jason! You don't know who Blaze is! He is an amazing guy okay? Yes, he had a reputation. But he isn't the type of guy you think he is and apparently I'm not the girl you thought I was either. Unless you actually want to talk about the planning of your girlfriend's party I am ending the call right now."
I hear Jason sigh, "when do you want to plan?"
"We can meet at my house tomorrow after school."
"Okay."
"Oh, and Blaze is helping." I add quickly and hang up before he has time to question that.
***
"Hey babe, need help with those?" Blaze asks, coming up to my locker and taking my books out of my hands.
"Thank you." I say relieved.
I had nearly dropped everything on the floor before he came.
"You're welcome."
"Hey, so I know you have practice tonight but Jason and I are meeting at my place to start planning the party. If you can't make it that's fine but it would be great if you could."
"Yeah, of course I'll be there. Practice gets done early today, coach has been cutting them short lately. His daughter is about to have a baby and he has been trying to be with her as much as he can be."
"That's sweet." I say.
"Yeah. I thought so."
"So just come to my house whenever you're done."
"Okay. Also, Lacey will be ready for you to pick up tomorrow. If you want you can just come right with me to work or I could drop her off at your place when I'm done my shift."
"As much as I would love to come and watch you work I have to get home tomorrow. I have a research report to start."
"Okay, that's no problem. I'll swing by your place when I'm done."
"Are you sure? I could always go on Wednesday and get her or I coul--" my words get cut off by Blaze's lips against my own.
He pulls away softly, "don't be silly okay? I've got it."
"That was a nice way of telling me to shut up." I comment.
"I thought so too." he teases and I laugh, shoving his chest playfully as we continue making our way to class.
***
I sigh as I open the door, "come in."
"Thanks," Jason replies as he walks into my house.
I walk right past him and down the stairs, not really caring if he follows or not. He does.
"When will Blaze be here?" he asks me.
"Whenever practice ends." I answer in a monotone voice.
"Sweet." he answers in the same tone.
"Not a word to him about what happened at that party. Do you understand me? You cannot tell Blaze that we kissed."
"As much as I hate the fact that you are with him I love you too much to wreck your relationship."
"Don't say that!" I warn him, "you don't love me."
"You don't understand how I feel Jade. Don't tell me I don't love you. I do."
"Speaking of love," I start, remembering something Natalie had told me, "why the hell did you tell Nat you love her? Don't lead her on Jason. You know that she actually loves you. Why would you do that?"
"Because I know she had to hear it."
I furrow my eyebrows, "that doesn't make sense."
"I'm loosing my connection with her. I know she is in love with me so I had to say the same thing to her. I need her to think I have the same feelings as she does to keep her interested."
"You sick son of a bitch." I say, glaring daggers at him, "you don't do that to anyone! Especially not to Natalie."
Jason hangs his head ashamedly, "I know that."
"Why the hell are you still even with her? You realize that there is no chance of an us, right?"
"You never know Jade. You might come around."
"I might have come around if you acted like a normal person and talked to me instead of going through my best friend and making her have actual feelings only to break her heart!" I yell at him.
Jason looks down, "I didn't come here to fight," he says, "can we just start planning?"
I grit my teeth but nod all the same, "sure."
***
An hour later and we still have no progress made. We continue to argue and then agree to get to work but then we end up arguing again and repeating the whole process over.
Finally I hear a knock on the door. Hoping it is Blaze, I head upstairs to open it.
"Hey." I say to Blaze, bringing him into a big hug.
"Hey baby girl, is everything okay?" he asks, accepting my hug and kissing the top of my head.
"Yeah," I lie, "there is just a lot of disagreement over this party. We barely have any work done."
Well, at least that was the truth, excpet for the fact that the disagreement was over the party. The disagreement was definitely not over the party, it was over how much of an asshole Jason is. Well at least that is what I was arguing.
Blaze follows me to the basement and after some awkward greetings we get down to work. All talk of the kiss has been forgotten and we manage to get actual work done.
***
After two hours of really planning we decide to call it quits. We have all the major things decided on, we just have to add the details and finishing touches on the whole thing which we have agreed to do another day.
"Thank you so much for the help today." I tell Blaze as we stand in the doorway.
Jason had already left about twenty minutes ago, with some excuse of having somewhere to be, so now it is just Blaze and I.
"Of course Jade. Anything for my girl."
"Your girl?" I ask with a smirk.
"Yes," he replies smugly, "you like it?"
"I love it." I say and kiss him roughly on the mouth. The kiss gets heated fast but I break it before it can go any further than just a kiss.
"My mom's home. We can't do this now."
"Aw. Okay."
"I'm sorry babe."
"Don't be sorry. That's not what I was here for anyways. I was here to help, not get you in trouble. But, kissing you is always a bonus."
"Stop saying things like that, it's making it very hard for me to not drag you down back to my room and finish what we had started."
"Alright, alright. I'm leaving."
"Bye Blaze."
"Bye baby girl," he says and leans in to hug me. Placing his mouth by my ear he whispers, "by the way, I do intend on finishing what we had started."
"Good. So do I." I reply in a seductive voice.
Blaze smiles and kisses my cheek then winks at me and leaves, making me wonder where my sudden confidence had come from.
