Wanna Hear a Story?
"Hey 2B, wanna hear a story?"
"I do not like stories, they're nothing but annoying folktales that humans use as a way of entertainment..."
2B replied as she shifts her body on the bed, trying to get more comfortable as she heard the faint sound of crickets chirping outside, along with the quiet voices of the Resistance camp members who were on guard duty for the night.
2B couldn't sleep though, what was even the purpose of sleeping? 2B was an android, do androids even NEED sleep?
She needed the rest though, for the last few years...things had been hectic and full of chaos.
Aliens have taken over the Earth and it was up to the organization known as YoRHa to destroy them all and to bring the humans back home, just like how their motto had stated:
Glory to mankind.
YoRHa was built to protect humanity and that was what 2B was going to do until her dying breath.
Did androids even have organs?
9S groaned as he stuffs his face in the pillow, playfully kicking his legs.
"But I can't sleep! And it's not like you're going to sleep either..."
"Just shut up and rest, 9S. We need our energy for tomorrow, for the sooner we destroy these god damn machines, the better..."
"Just one story, I promise!"
2B thinks about it for a moment before sighing and placing her hands on her stomach, staring up at the ceiling above.
Maybe hearing a worthless story is better than watching your comrades die in battle.
"Fine..."
"Yay!"
9S smiled as he pumped his fists in the air, accidentally hitting his small robot companion, Pod 153. Pod 153 rubs it's metal head with its robot hands.
"Ow."
"Oops! Sorry!"
9S apologizes while 2B holds a gloved hand to her mouth, trying hard not to laugh. 9S may be a smart YoRHa Scanner type, but he can be clumsy. 9S sadly smiles as he lays back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling as he then tells his story to 2B.
"Hmm...where should I start? Well...I don't know if it's just a weird glitch in my database but...I feel like, I've met a human before..."
"A human? 9S, there are no humans here on Earth though. How could you have met a human before?"
"I don't know...I don't know how to explain it...but maybe, just maybe I have...I've been having these weird dreams too...maybe I just imagined it all?"
"What are you talking about, 9S? Now this is just all nonsense...I'm going into rest mode now, see you in the morning."
"2-2B, wait!"
Just then, silence, silence was the only reply 9S had received. He then heard Pod 042, who was 2B's robot companion.
"2B has fallen into rest mode. Unfortunately, she does not want to be disturbed. Proposal: it is recommended that 9S should fall into rest mode too."
9S sighed as he rubs his head, his white hair slightly flowing as he fell back on the bed, yawning.
"I guess I'll go into rest mode too..."
As 9S closes his eyes, he then enters rest mode, hearing nothing but silence as he pictured himself strolling through the long hallways of his database, checking to make sure everything was in working order.
Let's see here...my Visual System seems to be in good shape...my Vocal System is in good shape...everything appears to be in perfect condition...
"Nine...s..."
9S then froze, looking around the quiet, empty space of his inner thoughts.
Huh? What was that...?
"Nine...s..."
It's that voice again...no, it's probably just a stupid glitch in my system...but why...why do I feel like I recognize that voice from somewhere before...?
"Nines...Nines..."
Who is it? Who are you...?
And that's when the memories of 9S's past suddenly rushed in...and that's when he remembered, her.
The human girl he once knew 2,995 years ago...
***
There once was a girl, a human girl, whom lived a life of pain and misfortune.
Her family had treated her so horribly and unfairly and so, she ran away, only to find a group of hackers who have gladly taken her in and made her a new member of their crazy but fun family.
The human girl had never experienced true happiness before, she never experienced what love was really about...until she found an android, an android who didn't understand human emotions at all.
And so, she was determined to teach him everything about the human world, from joy and excitement, to unhappiness and despair...
It all started on the day when
(Y/n) (L/n) freed an android named 9S.
***
"Okay, everybody ready?"
"Yo, I was BORN ready! I was born to be a smooth criminal!"
"Bruh, you were born to be a psychopath..."
"Heh, you two are a bunch of dorks~"
"H-Hey! I'm not just a dork! I'm an adorable dork~"
"Guys guys, you can flirt and do a strip show with each other later, right now we need to get inside this bank PRONTO! We need to get this paper, this bread, the cheddar, the money, the guacamole! Now let me repeat myself: ARE YOU READY KIDS?!"
"AYE AYE CAPTAIN!"
"I CAN'T HEAR YOU!"
"AYE AYE CAPTAIN!"
"LET'S GOOOOOOO!"
There was one thing (Y/n) (L/n) loved...and that was bank heists.
Just sneaking into a bank full of high top notch security filled her with excitement, for in the end, her hard work was going to pay off and that was about $90,000 in cash.
(Y/n) (L/n) was a hacker, an intelligent one at that, so intelligent that people always thought that she came from Harvard.
(Y/n) did not and I repeat, DID NOT, come from Harvard.
She didn't even go to college, but this is the best job that she could ever have...well, a secret job to put it that way.
(Y/n) used to have a family.
Scratch that, she used to live in a house.
Could you really call your parents or siblings "family" if they have always abused you from day to night, along with making your life a living nightmare ever since you were a child?
Yeah, (Y/n) (L/n) never even considered them a "family," more like a group of drunk partiers who used to treat her like Cinderella, but even worse.
She was a runaway.
One day she just packed all of her things and left, never turning back as she decided to face the outside world on her own...at least, that's what she thought was going to happen until she met this group of other hackers, who had their own place to live, which was in the back room of a Dungeons and Dragons hangout.
There was Lolita, a 22-year-old woman hacker who always throws sarcastic remarks...and heels at any man who stared at her for too long.
There was Rocco, a 20-year-old man hacker who loved doing crazy things such as setting trash cans on fire, smashing anything with a sledgehammer and pulling a Fast and Furious stunt down the streets of California.
And then there was Russell, who was really good at making an escape route...and a delicious pot of Gumbo.
These three hackers were crazy, but
(Y/n) loved crazy, that was just how she was born.
And so, the three fist bump each other before getting into position.
(Y/n) then pulls her black hood up, covering her face with a mask before giving everyone a thumbs up.
It was time to rob a bank again.
***
In a faculty hidden somewhere in the desert...a man had just sent another scientist to go in and hack into the terminal that was hooked up to an android, an android who's whole body was covered in a white sheet, his eyes covered with a dark blindfold, his white hair neatly combed as he had laid there on the metal table, untouched for who knows how long.
The scientist stands in front of the computer, typing different codes on it as he nervously licked his lips, hoping that any of the random codes he put in would work...but unfortunately, the terminal kept flashing the same red letters:
Login failed.
The scientist shakes his head as he then heads back up the stairs, coming face to face with the mysterious man.
The man then lit a cigarette, placing it in his mouth as he took a whiff of it and puffed it out, the smoke hitting the scientist's face.
"Well...? Anything? Anything at all?"
"...No sir, we tried, we tried every code in the book...none of them are working, I'm sorry to say-"
The man slaps the scientist out of anger, his eyes filled with rage as he takes his cigarette out and drops it on the floor, stomping on it.
"God damn it! You scientists are supposed to be smart! You're supposed to know how to crack simple codes like this! God, you're fools...you're all fools. You can't even login to a computer..."
"Sir, we tried everything! Nothing has worked! What do you expect us to do?!"
"I want you to turn him on! I want you to get his system running again! We NEED him..."
"Sir...the only person who can turn him on is his original creator-"
The man then slaps the scientist again, clicking his tongue as he puts a hand to his head.
"Well his creator is dead! His creator is dead and you're telling me that he didn't leave a note, a journal, SOMETHING that can help turn this damn machine on...?"
"..."
The man puffs as he straightens his jacket, staring at the sleeping android before turning his back on the scientist.
"We need to wake him up...he's our only chance of winning any future war...everyone in the whole world would be afraid of picking a fight with our country because of him and they'll all be afraid of hearing his name...9S."
