Towel Girl
Grant stared at me blankly.
I scrambled for words. "Grant, talk to me."
I watched his throat as he swallowed. "What am I going to do now?"
"You have so many options. There are so many girls who'd die for the chance to be with the infamous Grant Goldsworthy. Forget Trisha, she's not worth it."
His continued to stare off, distant. "Thanks Rinnie, but Trisha was kind of my only hope of forgetting."
My head was spinning. "Forgetting what?"
"You. Us. What happened." His eyes finally returned to me.
The room stopped spinning. "You want to forget?"
He shrugged. "Isn't that what you want, things to go back to normal?"
Having my words thrown back at me stung a little. "I just don't want to lose you."
"You couldn't." He smiled at me, sadly.
I smiled back. "I saw how much you liked Trisha. I'm so sorry."
He laughed. "I liked the idea of her. She was never that girl though. No matter what I did, she'd never change. I was stupid to think she would."
Seeing your best friend upset, is one of the worst feelings imaginable. I'd been with Grant through a lot, we'd always had each other's backs. I'd never seen him like this though.
"Scream. Cry. Smash something. Anything to let me know you didn't completely shut down." I pleaded with him.
He stayed still. "I'm okay Rinnie."
I shook my head. "No, you're not."
His eyes strayed once again. "You should go, I don't want you to see me like this."
"No, Grant I'm not going anywhere!" I stood my ground.
He went to stand up and I stopped him. "Thank you for what you're doing, but it's not necessary."
"She's not worth it." I repeated.
"Yes, she is." He said, completely serious.
His whole demeanor, his voice, his expression, all changed before my eyes. It took me a second to recover. I tried to focus. Something about this change was alluring.
"Grant, Trisha is a terrible person. She didn't deserve you from the beginning." I felt exhausted by the rollercoaster of emotions I'd went through that day.
Grant shook his head. "Not Trisha, you."
"What?" I nearly whispered.
"I'm not upset about Trisha. I knew she'd do this. You on the other hand, you are worth getting this upset over." I stared at his perfectly chiseled jawline, then my eyes traced his strong arms.
I sat silently, thinking more people should have Grant's gift for words. "Me?"
He followed my eyes, and squinted at me. "Yes you." His head titled slightly. "What's that look?"
There was no way I was about to tell him what the look meant. I kept my composure.
"You liked Trisha. I saw the way you looked at her. What you're saying is really sweet though." I had to challenge Grant. There was no way I could just believe he felt that way about me. He was what every girl dreamed of.
Grant smirked. "Really? Remember how I told you I was picturing you the whole time I was with her? That never went away by the way. Now Rinnie, as much as I love your company, you really should...."
Before he could finish, I kissed him. I pulled a Grant on Grant. For a moment it was just us, Grant and I. I held on as tight as I could. He kissed me back, full of fire. The kiss was magnetic. I leaned back, biting my lip.
Grant's eyes were wide. "Liam." He said between breaths.
I sat silently. All this time I'd been hating on Trisha when I was capable of the same thing. No one ever thinks they're capable of cheating on someone until they're face to face with their desires. I cared about Liam, a lot. He was an amazing guy. I felt terrible, but I didn't regret kissing Grant. I don't think I'd ever regret kissing Grant. The way he made me feel was incomparable. It wasn't right, but Liam and I never really discussed what we were. I still felt horrible.
"Screw him." Grant said, throwing me over his shoulder. He headed towards the bedroom.
I felt myself laugh against him. "Grant wait."
He tossed me onto the bed. "For?"
"I have to talk to Liam first." Resisting Grant was the hardest thing I'd had to do.
He began unbraiding my hair. "Tell him it was an accident. Say we accidently fell onto each other's lips and our clothes accidently fell off. It's Liam, he'll believe it."
I grabbed his hand. "You're a bad influence."
"The worse." He leaned in. "You're mine Rinnie."
Nothing compares to a genuine smile. To be so happy that you can't control your face, is an amazing feeling. Grant's words, as always, ignited a fire in me. I knew there was no doubt he was right, I was his.
Experience didn't matter to me anymore. All my fears about only ever being with one person were completely diminished. I was completely sure I needed Grant in my life.
"I have to talk to Liam." I moved back a little. "He deserves to hear what happened from me."
Grant took a deep breath. "What are you going to tell him?" He seemed nervous.
"The truth. That I'm yours."
He smirked. "Oh, good."
I shook my head, smiling. "I'm going to ask him to meet up." I pulled out my phone and texted Liam. He agreed to meet up later that evening.
Grant held his phone up to his ear. "In case it wasn't clear, we're over." Then he hung up.
I stared at him, amused. He sighed. "What a piece of work."
"You dated her...twice." I pointed out.
He laughed. "You can't prove it."
I squinted. "I'm sure there's pictures of the two of you. I wouldn't be surprised if you guys have a tape somewhere." I joked.
He rolled his eyes. "Ha, she wishes. I don't do that kind of stuff without payment."
I hit him playfully. "Stop."

"Is it cool if I take a shower here?" I asked.
He smirked. "Of course! Need some help with that?"
I laughed. "I think I can manage but thank you."
"I'll be out here, if you change your mind." He said, leaning back on the bed.
It felt good to shower. It was as though the water was washing away my internal turmoil. It's strange to be both the happiest you've ever been and the guiltiest. I thought of a million different ways to tell Liam, but they all sounded cliché. I let the scorching water cleanse me.
When I got out of the shower, I was ready. I was ready to talk to Liam. I dried off and wrapped a towel around me. I slowly opened the bathroom door to see Grant looking out the window, holding a coke can. I tightened the towel around me.
Grant turned to face me. "Hey."
"Hi." I smiled.
He moved towards me. "How was your shower?"
I shrugged. "Good. It helped me think."
"What'd you think about?"
"What I'm going to tell Liam mostly."
He sighed. "You were in the shower, thinking about Liam?"
I rolled my eyes. "Yes Grant. Can you blame me?"
"Hey! You're being sarcastic!" He crossed his arms, looking amused.
I went to put my hands up, forgetting I was wearing a towel. The towel fell slightly. I quickly fixed it. "You're kidding."
His eyes we on the towel. "That's cheating. How am I supposed to win an argument with you looking like that?"
"I'm sorry, I forgot I was in a towel."
"It wasn't a complaint. You should keep doing what you're doing, you're winning." He moved closer and leaned against the door frame.
I put my hand on his chest. "I should go, I need to tell Liam about my shower fantasies."
"Oh yeah?" Grant cornered me against the wall. He wrapped his arms around me and lifted his pop can above my head. "Would you want to do that covered in Coca-Cola?"
I laughed. "No, but I won't have to." I struggled to grab the can from him. He held it high above his head, moving even closer to me.
I reached up and pulled his face to mine. "Listen here buddy..." I began. As I said this, he dropped the can, accidently spilling some on himself. My eyes grew wide. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean...."
Grant started laughing. "Not a problem, it'll come out." He said, lifting his shirt above his head.
"Now I'm going to lose." I smiled.
Grant started to speak, but a knock on the door cut him short. He headed towards the door.
I stayed back, aware of my current state.
"What do you want?" Grant said, sounding irritated. At first, I thought maybe Alec had come by. Then, I heard the voice.
"Look Grant, I'm really sorry. I can explain." Trisha began. I tiptoed down the hall to get a better look. Grant went to close the door, but she stopped him.
Grant rolled his eyes. "Is that supposed to mean something to me? Cause it doesn't."
She put her hand on his arm. "I know I messed up."
Grant laughed coldly. "Messed up?"
"Please Grant, I'm sorry." She looked flustered.
Grant sighed. "I forgave you the second I found out, but I still don't want anything to do with you."
She took a step back, stunned. "Does this have anything to with the walking towel eavesdropping on us?" She glared at me. "She's just jealous of us."
Once the initial shock that she saw me wore off my blood was boiling. I emerged. I walked calmly towards them.
"Trisha? How completely unexpected." I kept my voice even as I spoke. "Did Alec already tell you it's over? I'm sorry, losing two people in one day must be really hard when you already don't have any friends."
She glared at me, then at Grant. Grant smiled at me. She looked dumbfounded.
Trisha moved in on Grant. "You are over here preaching to me about cheating as you're half-naked with towel girl?"
Grant looked down at her. "Zephyrine, her name is Zephyrine." It felt strange to hear him say my full name, but it had power to it. Besides, I hated the idea of Trisha calling me Rinnie.
His words infuriated her. "I don't care what you call her, you're a hypocrite."
He waved her off. "No, don't worry we didn't hook up when you and I were together, but man did I want to."
"I don't believe you. The two of you have always had a weird thing."
Grant shrugged. "I don't care." He opened the door. "Goodbye Trisha."
She just stared at him.
I moved up beside Grant. "Give her time, she's a little on the slow side. It takes her a minute to understand."
He wrapped his arm around me. "Let's go."
I looked up at him and smiled. "Okay."
I turned to see Trisha's face and was confused to discover she was smiling.
Trisha moved towards the door. "Let's just see how your boyfriend interprets this picture."
I scuff, she doesn't even know where he lives. "Ooh, great evil plan but your forgetting something very important. You don't know the guy I'm taking to, and he isn't my boyfriend by the way."
Her phone lights up and the corners of her mouth curl up confidently. "You mean Liam Brady, who lives on 1822 Raspberry Road?"
Grant's mouth drops. "That crazy b**ch!" I'm not sure if he's talking to me, Trisha or himself.
Trisha cackles as she walks out the door. "He looks cute."
