Chapter 1 - Delhi to Mumbai
As the early sun cast its golden rays through the window of Y/N's room, she stirred, her eyes still half-shut against the brightness. Before she could fully awaken, her aunt Devika gently tapped her on the shoulder, her soft voice breaking through Y/N's sleepy state.
"Good morning, beta," Aunt Devika said with a smile, gently shaking Y/N awake. "Aaj hamare paas ek bada din hai, (We have a big day today)." Y/N turned to the other side and pulled the blanket over her head, hoping to steal a few more moments of sleep.
When suddenly her aunt started singing some religious song, which annoyed her. "Badimaa, please," Y/N mumbled from under the blanket. "I just need a few more minutes."
But Aunt Devika continued singing, filling the room with the melodious hymn. Y/N sighed in resignation, realizing that sleep was now out of reach.
Aunt Devika said with a playful smile, "Tum ab bacchi nahi rahi, tum 31 saal ki mahila ho, (You're not a kid anymore, you're a 31-year-old woman)," and then continued, "aur tum abhi bhi bilkul lakdi ki tarah soti ho, (and yet you still sleep like a log)."
"Badimaa, I don't normally sleep like this," Y/N protested. "I was just tired from all the packing I had to do yesterday. I slept at 3 am yesterday."
"Thik hai, thik hai, (Okay, Okay). " "I will get going then. Please get changed and come downstairs for breakfast." Aunt Devika replied.
Then, Aunt Devika left the room and left y/n in her room.
Y/N Pov - Part 1
"Gosh, I need to get ready," I said to myself as I hurried to the bathroom. I quickly went through my normal morning routine, starting with my skincare and makeup.
After finishing in the bathroom, I went to my wardrobe to pick out an outfit for the day.
The outfit that I picked was red-embroidered white blouse with beige khaki pants and grey sneakers.
This is the outfit that I found on Pinterest, which I thought would be good, but if you don't like it, please feel free to imagine whatever you like.
"Don't I look so good?" I said to myself with a smile as I admired my reflection in the mirror. After putting on some perfume, I made my way downstairs.
As I was going down the stairs, my mom called out, "Y/N! Why were you late?" She emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray of food, and joined me at the main table.
"I'm sorry, Mumma," I replied. "I slept in because I was packing. We're moving to Mumbai today right?"
"Yes, beta," my father answers. "We will be flying today, and all our stuff has been moved to our new house in Bandra West."
"I see, papa" I replied, nodding. I then sit down at one of the chairs and I feel a mix of excitement and nervousness about the move.
It was going to be a big change, but I had always wanted to live in Mumbai. My best friend, Arjit, lived there. He was an actor who moved to Mumbai after completing university. We had been childhood friends since grade 1, ever since then we have been inseparable. However, as he moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career, we drifted apart. I was focused on my dream of becoming a journalist and TV reporter, which I achieved by working for the Star Plus channel branch in Delhi. When I got the news that my dad was shifting his jewellery company headquarters to Mumbai, I saw it as a sign. I applied for a vacancy at ZeeTV and got it.
My talk shows and interviews were popular across the country, but at work, I faced injustice because of my wealthy background. People assumed I was spoiled, but I worked hard to prove them wrong and earn my place. However, that didn't mean I didn't have problems. I had a very rough time with my senior male chief editor, Mr. Bhalla. He criticized me every day for the smallest mistakes and constantly made me run errands for him. So, when I handed in my resignation letter yesterday, I was relieved. Yet, he still didn't thank me for my efforts.
But I just hope my past doesn't repeat itself again in Mumbai. I'm looking forward to a fresh start and a more supportive work environment.
When suddenly, my dadi calls out, "Ishu! Tum kyun nahi kha rahe ho aur kisi aur duniya mein chale gaye ho? (Why are you not eating and going off to another world?)".
("Ishu" is a nickname meaning "angel" or "beautiful" .)
"Oh, uhm, nothing Dadi. I was just thinking about how much I am going to miss Delhi," I said.
"Haan, Ishu," Dadi replied, her voice filled with understanding. "Delhi holds so many memories for us. But remember, Mumbai will bring new adventures and opportunities. Change is a part of life, beta. Embrace it with an open heart."
"I know," I answer. I then started eating the chapatti with the rest of the curry, lost in thought.
"So, Y/N, how was your last interview with Akshay Kumar?" asked my uncle, excitedly.
"It was amazing chaacha! Akshay Kumar is not only incredibly talented but also so down-to-earth. His cool personality really shines through," I replied, unable to contain my excitement.
"Oh, toh ab tum Akshay Kumar ke saath best friends ho gaye ho, huh? Mujhe ummeed hai tumne usse mera autograph maanga!" (Oh, so now you've become best friends with Akshay Kumar, huh? I hope you asked him for my autograph!) her aunt Harshita joked.
We all laughed at Aunt Harshita's joke, and I playfully replied, "Of course, chaachee! Akshay sir asked for your autograph specifically. He's a big fan of you. This only made everyone laugh even more, and the teasing continued throughout breakfast.
Time skip to them at the Airport
It was 2 PM, and Y/N and her family were at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, waiting at the gate for their Vistara flight from Delhi to Mumbai.
Y/N's Pov - Part 2
As I was seated in the chairs at the gate, I decided to go to the toilet. After coming out, I accidentally bumped into a lady wearing a yellow kurta, causing her sunglasses to fall to the floor. Feeling apologetic, I quickly knelt down to pick them up and noticed that the lady was none other than Mrunal Thakur. The actress who I interviewed her two years ago when she was promoting one of her films in Delhi.
Mrunal Thakur asked me curiously, "Oh, it's you, Y/N Mitra, right?"
"Yes, it's me, Y/N Mitra. I'm sorry that I bumped into you," I replied apologetically.
Mrunal smiled warmly and said, "No worries, these things happen." "So, uhm, how come you are in the airport?" Mrunal asked.
"Oh, I am moving to Mumbai with my family as my dad is moving his headquarters there," I explained.
Mrunal nodded, understandingly. "That sounds exciting! Mumbai is a vibrant city with so much to offer, though it can be quite crowded at times. I'm sure you'll love it there,"
"Yeah, I hope so," I replied. "So, how come you were in Delhi?" I asked curiously.
"I just came back from shooting for a film in Australia. My flight came from Sydney, and I'm just taking a connecting flight to Mumbai," Mrunal explained.
"Oh, Australia! I've been there once for a conference, and I loved it there," I exclaimed.
"I know, right? Australia is such a beautiful place," Mrunal agreed, smiling.
We chatted a bit more about our experiences in Australia, sharing stories and recommendations. It was a pleasant conversation, and before long, it was time for Mrunal to board her flight.
"I guess I will see you around Mumbai then," she exclaimed.
"Yeah, I really hope so as well," I replied, smiling.
"By the way, I've heard that you and Arjit are best friends," she mentioned casually.
"Yeah, Arjit and I have been best friends since grade 1," I explained, reminiscing about our childhood adventures.
"Wow, that's amazing! Childhood friends always have a special bond," she commented, impressed.
"That's true, we haven't been in touch for a long time. I hope he's been doing well. "Since you were co-stars for Kumkum Bhagya, do you and Arjit still remain close?" I asked, feeling a twinge of jealousy.
Mrunal chuckled softly before replying, "Arjit and I have a great friendship, but we've both been quite busy with our projects. We try to catch up whenever we can, though!"
"That's nice to hear," I replied, trying to sound unconcerned. Deep down, though, I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy for the close bond they shared.
"Alright then, uhm I have to get going since my flight is boarding. It was nice talking to you," Mrunal said, "Here's my number, so you know you have another friend too," she smiled and put her number in my phone.
"Oh uhm thank you" I smiled as well and then put mine in her phone.
Mrunal smiled warmly and thanked me, promising to keep in touch. With that, she walked away and headed towards her gate. I couldn't help but feel grateful for meeting such a nice friend and forming a great friendship.
Meanwhile, I quickly hurried back to my gate, where my younger brother Aamit was waiting impatiently. "Didi, where were you? We were all waiting for you. The flight started boarding, and we tried calling you so many times, but your phone wasn't being answered," he exclaimed, looking slightly annoyed.
"I'm sorry, Aamit. I just went to the toilet, and I bumped into a friend I knew. Time slipped away," I explained
We quickly boarded the plane, and I settled into my business class seat, grateful for the comfort and privacy it offered.
As the plane taxied down the runway, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia. Delhi had been my home for so long, but now, as we soared into the sky, I was filled with anticipation for the new chapter that awaited me in Mumbai.
Time skip by 2 hours
After about two hours, the plane landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. Y/N and her family proceeded to the luggage collection area, gathered their baggage, and then waited outside for their car to arrive and collect them.
y/n pov - Part 3
We waited outside patiently for our car with our new driver to come and collect us. As I looked around, I suddenly saw Mrunal in the distance, being hugged by a man wearing a hoodie. I couldn't help but wonder who it might be that was hugging her. As the man's hoodie fell from his head, I was surprised to see that it was none other than Arjit Taneja, my best friend. My heart skipped a beat as I watched him, a rush of emotions flooding through me.
I felt a pang of jealousy through my heart and looked away, trying to hide my emotions. However, my attempt was useless when I heard my mom scream, "Arjit beta, is that you?" as she walked over towards them.
Arjit turned towards my mom's voice, and his eyes lit up with recognition and joy. "Aunty, yes, it's me!" he exclaimed, embracing her warmly. He then sought blessings from each elder in our family. I tried not to look at his eyes as I felt upset, but then I heard him asking, "Where's Y/N?"
I hesitated for a moment, feeling a mix of emotions as I turned to face him. As Arjit looked around, trying to locate me, my sister Rahi pointed out my presence by saying, "There she is." He turned towards me, and our eyes met for the first time in years.
Oh isn't he so cute with those eyes 😍, I hope you guys like the look of his face that I picked here.
He continues to stare at you for a few seconds, while you seem to look away. Then you try to brake the eye contact.
"Hello, Bestie," I exclaimed happily, hugging Arjit tightly, trying my best not to show that I was upset.
Arjit smiled warmly and hugged me back, and for a moment, everything felt like it used to when we were kids. Despite my inner turmoil, I tried to focus on the joy of reuniting with my best friend after so long.
As we pulled away from the hug, Arjit looked at me intently and asked, "How have you been, Y/N? It's been so long since we last met." His words brought a flood of memories, and I couldn't help but smile.
"I've been good, Arjit," I replied, trying to sound cheerful. "Just busy with work and everything. How about you? How's Mumbai treating you?"
Arjit smiled warmly. "Mumbai's been great. Work keeps me busy, but I love what I do. It's good to see you, Y/N. I've missed our old times together," he said, his eyes reflecting a hint of nostalgia.
I blushed and tried to hide my face, feeling a mix of embarrassment and affection. Pinching him gently, I said, "Why haven't you stayed in contact with me the last few years? You really are a bad friend!"
Arjit chuckled at my teasing remark. "I know, I'm really sorry, Y/N. Things just got so hectic with work and all. But I promise, I'll make more of an effort to stay in touch from now on," he said, sounding genuinely apologetic.
We then exchanged numbers, but before we could continue our conversation, my aunt Harshita started interrupting us, bombarding Arjit with questions. I stood there, feeling frustrated that I didn't get a chance to catch up with my bestie.
I tried to interrupt and redirect the conversation back to us, but my aunt was relentless with her questions.
Our car arrived, and as we prepared to leave, I turned to Arjit and said, "I'm sorry about that. "Aunt Harshita can be a bit... talkative," I said to Arjit. Arjit laughed, understandingly. "It's okay, Y/N. I'm just glad we got to catch up, even if it was brief.
With a smirk and a wink, Arjit added, "I'll see you tomorrow at your house then." My heart skipped a beat at his tone and I couldn't help but smile back,
"Do you even know where I live?" I questioned, teasingly.
"Of course I do, sweetheart! I have my ways," Arjit replied flirtatiously with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
I blushed at his playful tone and replied, "Alright then, I'll be waiting, Mr. Charming"
As the car pulled away, I couldn't help but notice Arjit's gaze following me. It was a brief moment, but it made me feel happy for our unexpected reunion.
