Twenty One 𒆜 Knives Of Jealousy

The entire rest of the night and into spring break Belicia walked around in a daze of enchantment. It was like she was someone else. She couldn't put her finger on it but ever since the night Koya had kissed her on the head she had been completely overtaken by some strange blossoming consciousness. A delicate sensitivity had risen in her soul and it was like she knew things.

Things like what people around her were thinking. And feeling. Being at Ava's house kept her from going absolutely mad.

Cayde and Koya came over everyday and on two occasions she and Koya sat in the gazebo where they had met together that late night.

She wondered if this perceptiveness had come from that night. It was the first time she admitted she could hear him speaking to her in her mind and now it seemed to have moved into her whole being.

She dared not share any of it. Not even with Ava, but all her nerve endings cracked with the feeling that something was about to happen. Like knowing what someone was going to say before they said it, she was inside their heads.

Koya watched her closely, she noticed. Each time he visited her. He didn't press her but she knew his thoughts as well, and it was as if she and Koya's beings were melding together from the inside out.

They spent the entire week together. And carefully, respectfully Koya began to share his thoughts with her through his Kitsune, and she did not reject what was happening.

Belicia began to enjoy her new found secret self, reveling in the things within the hidden recesses of her heart. A few times when she had found herself thinking about Tuto, she found herself hearing him too. His thoughts were tumultuous and stormy and unreadable.

Those times she would shake it off and push past the conflicting emotions.

One day, as she and Koya spent the afternoon walking in a local park, he took her in his arms and kissed her passionately after an intense moment of her feeling his thoughts and him allowing her to 'touch' his Kitsune.

A gasp had escaped her and when she looked at him her liquid amber eyes told him she knew exactly what he was thinking.

She didn't know what she had encountered, but he felt her fascination. When he pulled away and looked deep into her beautiful eyes, he could see she was filled with amazement.

Belicia found herself never wanting to leave Koya's side, thinking of him every available moment and, dreaming of his kisses, she felt herself brimming with a life force of powerful intuitions.

The day before Noah's party Belicia came downstairs from Ava's room and found Tuto in the kitchen with Ava, Dulce and Mrs. Avila. Immediately upon seeing him her inner being blew up with angst and her new found tranquility left her.

Tuto smiled when he saw her and he went over and asked her if they could talk. She felt herself close off from his probing thoughts because she knew now, like Koya, Tuto had abilities as well. She would never let on to him about her own awakenings and she had discovered she could open them or close them at her own will.

After sitting down in the family room Tuto opened up by telling her that he had broken up with Desiree. He watched her for any sign of interest and not seeing what he had hoped for he went straight into the sorrowful tale of how he'd caught Koya at her house late one night.

For the slightest of a moment Belicia stiffened, as she imagined it being true, but she was done with Tuto and Desiree's games.

When Tuto realized she had no reaction to finding out Koya was a two-timer with her and Desi, he tried desperately to think of a way to glean her sympathies, but Ava came to ask Tuto if he wanted a hamburger. Mrs. Avila had cooked on the grill all afternoon to make sure all Ava's friends ate well before their big weekend.

He looked dismayed with her interruption but reluctantly nodded and followed her back to the kitchen. Belicia also went because she couldn't listen to anymore of Tuto's sob story.

They sat down at the table and Dulce came from the swimming pool dripping water and ran over and gave Tuto a hug. He comically hugged her back and Belicia smiled in spite of her mistrust of him. Anyway, Dulce loved all Ava's friends even if they didn't have the sense of a bug. She was so cute.

She climbed into a chair with a dramatic air. "I'm so hungry!"

"Me too! What smells so good in here?"

Belicia stood up and turned in her chair as Koya walked in. The moment he saw Tuto his eyes turned dark with animosity, but he said nothing and kept his displeasure hidden.

"Koya!" Dulce chirped as she jumped up and ran to him giving a big hug. "Go wash your hands Koya and eat some hamburgers with us!"

"I will!" Koya told her with lighthearted gusto, chuckling as she ran back to her chair.

Tuto broiled inside. So, he thought, Desi was right. He's been coming over here daily.

Tuto's expression became guarded but Belicia didn't miss his discomfort. It served him right, she thought smugly. He came over here just to try and put a wedge between her and Koya and this time it wasn't working.

When Koya came back he bent over Belicia and gave her a light kiss on the lips and she thought Tuto was gonna come unglued.

Dulce's little eyes sparkled seeing that and she ooooohed with childish pleasure.

Belicia felt Tuto's burning jealousy like a bolt of lightning. It grew with each passing moment as Koya sat down beside her and he glared at Koya from across the table.

Belicia's subconscious tweaked nervously and she felt the rumble of something wicked in her intuition. Her core quaked as Dulcie and Koya bantered back and forth across the table and she teased him relentlessly, unaware of what was brewing so close to her. Belicia looked to see if Koya was picking up on the turmoil but his face was discreetly plain as he gave his attention to Ava's little sister.

Just then Ava came in from sun tanning by the pool and seeing Dulce sitting there in her wet bathing suit she scolded her and told her to go change clothes.

"But I'm hungry Ava! I don't have time to change."

"Yes ma'am you do, now go," she pointed toward the stairs.

The very second Dulce disappeared upstairs and Ava turned to say hi to Koya, Belicia saw a butter knife lifting into thin air and watched as it whizzed by between them, hitting the bar and clattering to the floor. She jumped straight up from her chair.

"Oh my God Tuto!" She screamed.

"What the actual freak!" Ava yelled. "You just threw that knife at Koya! Get out Tuto!" She roared.

Tuto stood up and his eyes shouldered with hateful passion. "This is far from over, Koya boya. No more Mr. Nice-guy."

He bolted to the side door and left and they heard his tires squeal as his car sped off down the road.

Ava looked at Koya. "Are you alright? Man, I can't believe him!"

Neither Koya or Belicia said a word because they had both just seen what actually happened. Indeed, Tuto had thrown the butter knife. With his mind.
