7. You're Invited
Hey, minna! I'm having a great summer so far, but am still making time for my stories. I am currently writing 3 stories, but I think I'll focus less on one of them and focus more on my fanfics, such as this one. I hope you're all having a wonderful summer so far! If you guys haven't checked out my Nalu fanfic yet, it's okay, cuz' I'm not done with it yet. This chapter is dedicated to @naluinthemaking. I hope that when you scream for this one, no one will be sitting next to you. Stay awesome!
When I woke up, I felt cold and uncomfortable. My bed felt rougher than ever, and my blanket was nowhere to be found. I sat myself up to find myself sleeping on my rugged floor.
"Oh yeah... Now I remember..." I said while rubbing my neck ache. Last night, I helped Killia and Alluka, and at some point I dozed off on the floor because Killua already occupied my bed.
"Remember what?" Speak of the devil. I looked up to my side to see Killua already sitting up against the bed backboard, reading a book. He seemed to be fine, in fact, fully recovered.
"Nothing..." I sighed. I then whipped my head back to his direction when I noticed the pink covered book with star stickers. "Killua, what are you reading?" I said sternly.
"Hm?" He blinked at me then turned his attention back to the pages. "Oh, an autobiography." He answered with a bored expression.
I shot up and stood over him. "Yeah, my diary!" I yelled while snatching my personal book from the clutches of his hands.
I swung my diary back and moved it forward until he held his hand up and gave me an amused expression. "You wouldn't hit your own injured patient, would you?"
I hesitated at first, but I forcefully hit my book against his shoulder anyways. "You jerk! Never ever read a girl's diary, you creep!"
"Ow, it was only a page!" He argued while rubbing his sore shoulder.
"And that is one too many!" I was unbelievably frustrated with this guy. I brought him in the hospitality of my home and treated his wound and this was the thanks I get?
"What's going on?" Alluka yawned. I was so focused on Killua that I didn't even notice Alluka was sleeping at the other side of the bed. She rubbed her eyes awake.
"Oh I'll tell you what's going on. Your big brother Killua here was reading my diary!"
Alluka gasped and turned to her brother with disbelief. "Oniichan, that's rude!" She said, but not harsh enough.
"Exactly! It is the one thing that you should never do to a girl." I scolded with my diary waving in my hand.
"I thought it was never tell a girl that she's fat or old." He joked.
"Is he serious right now? Get out!" I yelled, pointing at the door.
"Yuki, are you up, dear?" I heard my mother's distant voice through the door. I suddenly remembered that it was morning and that my family was here. I had forgotten that my mother didn't know that we had secret guests. Hopefully Rin didn't rat us out.
"Shh!" I hushed at them.
"I didn't say anything." Killua retorted.
"Shush! Just wait here." I said quietly as I rushed towards my door.
I walked outside of my room and stopped at the top of the stairs. "Yuki, is everything all right?" She called out from the downstairs kitchen.
"Uh-y-yeah. Why wouldn't it be?"
"Well, I heard you yelling in your room. Is there someone up there?"
Thank goodness. She still didn't know. "No, mom. There was just, um... a spider and I'm trying to get rid of it."
"Okay." My mom replied without saying anything else. After that, I snuck back inside my room only to see one person remaining.
"Where did Alluka go?" I asked in half panic.
"Relax. She went to the bathroom while you were talking to your mom." Killua answered.
"Oh, okay." I sighed in relief. I didn't even know that she waltzed behind me. As long as she stayed away from downstairs, everything would be fine.
"So who's Kaito?" Killua asked.
"W-w-what?" I stuttered as my cheeks turned cherry red. How did he know that name? Unless...
"You know... Kaito. The one which you described to have sparkly eyes and hair like grass?"
That moron! Of all pages, why did he had to read that one? "That is non of your business!" I barked, but immediately clapped my mouth shut, remembering that I had to control my volume with mom around.
"It's not my fault that you hide your diary at such an obvious place." Killua shrugged. "Every guy knows that the underneath the mattress is the one place to hide something like that."
"Oh shut up you creeper." I said as I took Alluka's seat. It was warm. "So how's your head?"
Killua smiled brightly. "Better, thanks to you."
"That's good to hear." We didn't say anything for the next thirty seconds until Killua took a deep breath.
"So you know Alluka's secret, don't you." He said, abound eye contact with me.
"Yeah, I do. And I know your secret too." I added.
Killua spun his head around, with a frightful expression in his eyes. "You do?"
"Yeah," I smiled. He seemed so anxious. I didn't know why he was getting so worked up. "You're real name is Killua Zoldyck," I stated, and his eyes widened. "You're a pro Hunter!" Killua let out the air he was holding in and leaned back on my pillow. He closed his eyes and relaxed.
"Yeah, you got me. I'm a pro Hunter."
"I knew it! How cool!" I said, finally knowing who he is. "Why are you keeping this a secret? There's nothing wrong with being a Hunter."
"It attracts too much attention." He simply stated.
"Right. You don't want your fangirls of our school getting more excited then they already are." I giggled, but Killua still held a serious look. "Hey, what's the matter?"
"We're dangerous people you know." He said, talking to me without facing me again. "Are you still willing to hang out with us?"
"Just because you're dangerous people doesn't mean you're bad people." I spoke whole heartedly. "Alluka is a sweet girl who's trying to make friends, and I know you would never do anything to hurt me, right?" Killua was silent for a moment, which scared me a little. "Right?"
"So you really mean that?" He asked.
"Of course I do. We're friends, aren't we?" I said as I lightly punched him on the good shoulder, feeling like I was alone on a boat.
"Friends?"
"Yeah. Well, two friends and a jerky brother who tags along." I joked.
Finally, Killua turned his head towards me with a smile. "Hey, do you have any plans tomorrow?" He asked me out of the blue, drastically changing his mood.
"Um, no. I don't think so." I replied, not sure where he was going with this. "Why?"
He then suddenly leaned forward. "It's gonna be Alluka's birthday tomorrow and I'm planning something special for her."
"Oh really? Awe, that's so sweet." I tilted my head.
"Yeah, and I need you to take her out shopping to the mall tomorrow."
"Huh?"
"It would be a planned girls day out to celebrate her birthday, but really it's just for you to stall her while I set up her surprise tomorrow." He explained while lifting up his finger.
It didn't sound too bad, plus this seemed like the perfect opportunity to spend some more time and have fun with Alluka. "Can I bring Lizz along too?"
"Hat girl? Yeah, sure. Just don't tell her our secret." He crossed his arms. He clearly didn't trust her as much as he had trusted me yet.
"Don't worry, I won't. You have my word." I said, placing one hand over my heart and the other one in the air under oath. "Pinky swear."
I held out my right pinky, but Killua just stared at it, letting it hang in the air.
"Good."
The door opened with Alluka coming in with a bright morning smile. "You have a nice bathroom, Yuki-chan!"
"Thanks." I said. Before I knew it, Killua took off the sheet covers and stepped out of bed. "Hey, what are you doing? You still need to stay in bed." I said as I got up from my chair in an attempt to stop him.
"Says who?" Killua asked sarcastically. "I'm perfectly fine now." He turned around and took my hand without permission and shook it. "Thanks for your help. We'll be seeing you tomorrow." He winked before letting go and started walking again.
"But wait, my mom is still downstairs."
"Who says we're going down stairs?"
Killua went to the other side of the room and opened my window. "Wait, what are you..." Alluka climbed on his back, and just like that, he jumped right out of my window. "Oh my gosh!" I ran to my window and popped my head out of the square opening. I looked down to see Killua and Alluka casually walking to the side walk, as if they didn't just jump off from the second floor. "How..." I whispered in astonishment. Before they left completely, Killua turned around to wave me bye, then continued walking.
I was dumbfounded for a couple of seconds before I came back to my senses. I checked the time to see that it was only 8:03. I better show my face before my family would get too suspicious.
As I came down stairs, I scanned the scene. Rin was playing with his hand held video game while mom was sipping on a cup of coffee, as usual. Looked like mom was still oblivious of last night.
As I came to the table, my mom looked up surprised. "Oh, Yuki. Why are you wearing your school uniform? It's Saturday, dear." I looked down and remembered that I didn't change into my PJs last night.
"Oh... yeah. I guess I forgot." I sheepishly scratched the back of my head, realizing that I even forgot to brush my hair and teeth. I probably looked like a wreck. Hopefully she wouldn't notice.
"Well, sit down for breakfast, hun."
I sighed in relief. Thank goodness she didn't notice. Rin was too distracted to notice.
"So how was school yesterday?"
"Oh, school was fine. We recently had a new student and I became friends with her."
"Oh, that's wonderful, Yuki. What's this new friend's name?"
"Her name's Alluka." When I mentioned her, I suddenly remembered about her birthday tomorrow. "Hey mom. It's Alluka's birthday tomorrow and we're gonna hang out at the mall to celebrate. Is that okay?"
"Hmm... who's we? What time will you leave and how long will you be gone?" My mother inquired, asking the usual mom questions before allowing me to hang out with friends.
"Uh..." I gave a second hesitation, for I did not have all the information myself. "Just me, Lizz and Alluka. I don't know exactly what time or how long yet because Alluka's brother is planning a surprise for her, but I'll ask him."
"Well, tell me everything when you do. Other than that, you can go."
"Really? Thanks mom!" I said happily.
"All right." She said as she got off from her seat and picked up her dish. "I'll be getting ready for work. I won't be back until six o'clock tonight. Make sure the dishes are washed."
"Okay." When mom placed her dishes in the sink and left the room, Rin spoke for the first time.
"Is Killua still here?" He asked, not taking his eyes off of the tiny flashy screen.
"No!" I snapped back in response. "Of course he's still not here. And Alluka was here last night too."
"Yeah, I remember. But isn't he like your secret boyfriend or something?"
"Ugh! I already told you, he's not my boyfriend."
I was saved by the doorbell. Leaving Rin at the kitchen table, I attended the front door. I peaked through the peeping hole to see Lizz, who have proven to keep her word. "Hey." I greeted when I opened the door.
"Hey, is everything all right?" She asked anxiously. "Is Killua okay? Are they both still here?"
"Killua recovered and they both just left."
"Whew, that's a relief." She said.
"Hey, Lizz. You're not busy tomorrow, right?"
"No, why?"
"Well... It's going to be Alluka's birthday tomorrow, and Killua wants us to go shopping at the mall with her so that he can prepare a birthday surprise for her. You wanna come?"
"Yeah, sure." She replied.
"Really?" I asked in slight surprise. I thought she might've gone against the idea.
"I mean, why not? It sounds like fun. And you can't possibly go shopping without me."
"Of course." We both giggled at the doorstep. "Oh, come inside."
Lizz walked in and closed the door behind her. "So when does it start?"
"I'm... not sure." I said stumped. I really should've thought of these things and asked him before they left.
"Well you have their number, don't you?"
"Yeah. Alluka's. Wait here for a sec." Lizz took a seat on our family coach. Rin disappeared somewhere, probably to his room. I went upstairs into my bedroom to get my cellphone. Once I finally had it in my reach, I located Alluka's number and clicked on call. After two rings, someone finally picked up.
"Hello?" Alluka's small voice spoke through the receiver.
"Hey, Alluka. It's Yuki. Can you put Killua on the phone?"
"Alright!" I heard hand shuffling before the voice switched to Killua's.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Killua. So when do you want me and Lizz to meet up with you guys at the mall? How long are we gonna be out?"
"We can meet up at three o'clock. How long it will last depends on when you girls are going to be done."
"Okay. So... what is this big surprise you have in stored for Alluka." I asked curiously.
"Ha ha, baka," Killua laughed, then turned his voice into a whisper. "I can't tell you that with Alluka right next to me."
I was greatly offended of him calling me an idiot, but what he said did make sense. "Hmph. Fine."
"Just let me know when you girls are done and I'll text you our address."
"Okay. Bye."
Will tomorrow be the best day ever for Alluka? Or will something go horribly wrong...
To be continued in the next chapter...
