2. A Fateful Encounter

Hey minna! Here is the second chapter of my fan fiction. So far the story is going well. If you guys have any suggestions, let me know. This chapter is dedicated to @nekochii11, for being the first person to comment on my story. This is for you, buddy! Enjoy!

When I got home, I inserted my keys into the front door, twisted and turned the lock and opened the door. Inside, mom was already chopping vegetables right next to a steaming red pot in the kitchen. My kid brother was playing with his video game in the couch, killing time until dinner was cooked.

"Welcome home, Yuki! Did you get the eggs?" I didn't answer. I just dropped the plastic bag on the table and ran straight up stairs to my room. "Yuki?" I didn't stop. I just kept running until I locked the door behind me and buried my face in the comfort of my own pillow on my bed.

I was still in shock of what happened to me today. After that incident, I called the cops and told them the location of those creeps, but I was too afraid to stick around by myself if they ever woke up. I was so afraid, and so weak. If it wasn't for that guy, who knows what those guys could've done to me. I never got to properly thank him, I mean, sure I said it, but I feel like it wasn't enough to express my true gratitude.

My thoughts were interrupted when someone knocked on my door. "Yuki, sweetie, is everything all right?" She asked me, expressing her concern. I raised my head out of my pillow.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just really tired and have a lot of homework." I didn't want her to worry about me too much, so I just kept it to myself.

"Okay, it's just that some shells were broken and I just wanted to know if everything's okay."

"Oh, yeah. There was a guy on the train who accidentally sat in the eggs." I lied.

"All right. Just remind me to reimburse you later."

"Got it." When the conversation ended, I fell into deep sleep.

"Noway. So that really happened to you?" Lizz asked astonished. I nodded as we walked down the sidewalk away from our school. "My poor Yuki, I'm never letting you walk home alone again!" She said, wrapping her arms around me, rubbing my arms in comfort.

"I'm fine now. I just hope I won't run into those creeps again."

"I just can't believe your knight in shining armor just went off and left you like that." She said, frustratedly.

"Knight? I wouldn't go that far to call him that."

"You said that he's cute and was about the same age as us, didn't you?" Lizz asked."

"I only said that he was the same age as us." I corrected.

"Mm... You also said cute."

Did I really say cute? It must've accidentally slipped.

"Well it's not like that, okay? Besides, what are the chances that I'll see him again?"

When we turned to the corner of a building, out of nowhere, a person who was moving smoothly with speed appeared from the corner, his body colliding with mine. As we both hit the ground with him faltering on top of me, I heard the sound of objects falling on the ground. A skateboard clanked and rolled away.

"Hey, watch where you're going buddy!" I heard Lizz shout.

I felt the extra weigh being lifted off of me as I sat up and held my head. I think his head might've bumped into mine, but not too hard. "Yuki, are you okay?!" Lizz asked as she bent down to my side in her aid, worried about me.

"I'm so sorry." The stranger said. "Are you hurt?"

"Ouch..." I looked to the ground to see a plastic bag of food items scattered around the sidewalk. "It's okay. I'm fi-" my sentence paused when I looked at the person who rammed me. The silver and blue eyes. It was the same boy from yesterday. The one who rescued me.

"Ah! It's you!" I shouted, pointing at him.

"Me?" He looked at me confused.

"Him?" Lizz joined in.

"You're the one who helped me out in that alley yesterday, remember?" I said, trying to jog his memory. How could he not remember me?

It took him three seconds to ponder until his eyes lit up. "Oh yeah. You were that girl who was in trouble yesterday. I'm glad you're doing fine now." He said, as he began collecting his groceries back inside the bag.

When I stood up and straightened my skirt, I reached for the yellow skateboard and picked it up for him. "I'm really thankful for what you did yesterday." I said truthfully while offering back his board.

He got up and took what was rightfully his. "It was nothing." With that said, he dropped his skateboard on the ground, and started strolling away.

"Hey, wait!" I called out to him. The wheels stopped as he turned his head. "Um, my name is Yuki."

"That's nice to know." He simply commented, then turned towards the front again.

"Hey bonehead, would you just stop for a minute!" Lizz shouted angrily.

The boy immediately stopped and kicked his skateboard up into his hand. "What did you call me?" He called back, whipping his head around irritated.

"Lizz." I said to my friend. She didn't had to be so rude.

"This girl isn't done talking to you." The boy marched straight towards me until we were face to face. He was much taller than me, those eyes staring down at me.

"You got something more to say to me?" He asked, starting to sound like an adult who just got disrespected by a teenager. I gulped, feeling extremely nervous. What words should I say without getting him angry or making myself sound stupid?

I took a step back and bowed my head. "Please let me repay you." I said quickly, then lifted my head back up.

"Huh?" He responded in confusion.

Lizz gave me a little push forward, which told me to go on. "I-it's just that... I feel like I should properly thank you for all that you've done for me."

"It's okay. It was nothing really."

"Come on." Lizz insisted, her hands slithering their way to my shoulders. "You just saved this girl from danger yesterday and she's offering to repay you for your kindness. You could at least oblige to her expression of gratitude."

The boy silently looked at us unsure. Maybe we shouldn't push it. If he just wanted to be left alone, then that would be fine. We could just part ways and continue living our lives normally.

Finally, the boy sighed. "A drink." He said

"Heh?" We both responded in sync.

He looked away and answered again, "Buy me a drink, and then we can call it even."

We walked to the nearest convenient store and bought a soda can from the vending machine outside.

"I can't believe of all things, he just asks for a soda." Lizz whispered to my ear.

"Lizz, it's all right. If that's what he wants, then that's what he'll get." At least it was easy for my part. But still, a soft drink was not as equivalent to my life.

The boy gulped down the drink, then removed it from his lips and wiped his mouth. "That was refreshing." He said, feeling satisfied.

"Anyway, my name is Lizz Caperno. You already know this girl right here, Yuki." She pointed at me with her thumb.

"It's Yuki Suzuki." I added.

"What's yours?"

"Killua," he simply answered. We both waited for something more.

"No last name?" I added.

"You can just call me Killua." He said, finishing what was left of his beverage. He was one stubborn guy to talk to; trying to act all cool and mysterious. He hasn't said anything except for the times we talked to him first. What's his deal? I wanted to get to know him better but it was obvious that he didn't want to have anything to do with us. I sighed, thinking that we were not getting anywhere with this guy. Oh well, as long as I have returned the favor, I don't have to worry about him anymore.

Killua crushed the can with his hands and threw it in the recycling green recycling bin. "Well, I'm heading off now. It was nice meeting you two." He said, stepping on his skateboard.

"It was a pleasure meeting you too, Killua." I waved, trying to hold a smile. After that, he rolled across the street and disappeared out of sight.

"Well, he's no knight in shining armor in my eyes." Lizz stated, once he was gone.

"Yeah, no kidding. Let's just go home."
