Saloonatics: The Goat-Wolf Monster

Sheriff Thompson's P.O.V

"Sheriff! Sheriff! The Wolf beast struck again last night!"

I look up from my book and rush outside. This is gettin' outta hand! This is the fourth time this month that the beast had snuck into town durin' the night and stealing our cattle. Bing lead me to where all the commotion was. The towns people gathered 'round and all started speaking at once. Naturally, this annoyed me so I took "Gun" and fired two shots in the air. Everyone was dead silent.

"Alright. I know that the Wolf has struck again and I know y'all are scared. But can someone please tell me exactly what happened?"

The Detective, Edward Gold, stepped forward and spoke,

"the Wolf took another cow and one of the horses."

A cow and a horse? It usually only takes a cow or a sheep. But now that has a taste for horses, we're gonna have to lock up all the horses and place a guard out just to be safe. I walk away from the crowd and back to my office, trying to think of a way to get rid of that monster once and for all. The sound of jogging footsteps followed behind me.

"Thompson! Whatever your planning, it wont work!"

The British detective said. I turned around and faced him.

"Well how do you know that it wont work?"

"Because I saw it last night! And let me tell you, it's huge! It was roughly ten feet tall and it had it had giant curly horns on its head, similar to a Ram's horns and its eyes were a bright yellow."

I was shocked by his description of the beast. I knew that Gold would never lie to me about anythin' so this was shockin'. I just thought it was just a regular wolf that was just chasin' our cattle away.

"Come inside my office then."

I say as I open the door. Edward and I take a seat and I take my hat an hang it up.

"Edward. Tonight I am gonna take one of the sheep and I'm gonna use it to attract the Wolf and see if I can take it down, or at least track it to where it's den is."

Edward looked at me in disbelief. He's eyes went wide and he tried to talk me out of it, sayin' that it was a foolish idea and that I'd get myself killed. I, of course, didnt care and I needed to do this for the town.

~later that night~

Wolf's P.O.V

I always feel back for takin' the peoples cows and other livestock, but I need to eat and there's not a lot of options out here in the desert. I walked out of my cave and stretched a little, I had no intention of goin' into town t'night so I decided to just patrol my territory. I lived on the edge of a Redwood forest, where the desert meets the grass. It wasnt far from that little town called "Spitbucket" but it's good enough.

As I walked around, in the distance I heard a little lamb bleating. I looks and saw the baby sheep all alone and without its mother. I walked over to the shivering little thing and looked down at it. Its wasveither shaking because of the cold or because of me but I didn't care. I ever so gently picked up the lamb in my mouth and carry it back to the sheep pen. I set in down and it looked up at me. I gave it a little lick on the cheek and nudged it other to the other sheep. Its stood up and quickly walked over to its mother. I smiled slightly and began walking back home.

As I sat on top of a building late that night, I saw the wolf come out of the Redwood forest and Edward wasnt foolin' 'round. This thing was huge. I watched it walk over to the Lamb I put outside the pen and watched, but what happened next absolutely shocked me. It didnt eat the lamb, instead it just picked it up and put it back in the pen with the others, still alive! It nudged the lamb over to the sheep and and  the lamb and the Wolf walked away back to the woods. What the hell?

~The next Morning~

I woke up and quickly saddled my horse and grabbed my shotgun. What I saw last night was unbelievable, but it was still a dangerous beast. So I have to be careful. I rode to the edge of the forest and tie my horse's reins to a low, sturdy branch and travel into the woods with my shotgun in my hands. It didnt take long for me to find a giant paw print on the ground. I followed them as best as I could until they lead to a cave.

I looked inside and saw a young woman with outrageously long blonde hair and a very simple white cotton dress. She was sleeping, huddled against a wall. That's strange, I dont recall the wolf kidnappin' anybody. I walk inside to get a better look, but now that I got a closer, I realized that I've never seen her in the town before. So who it she?

I accidentally trip over a crack in the cave floor and fall with a loud thud. I look up at her and saw her eyes quickly open, looking directly at me. She stood up and transformed into the wolf beast. My eyes went wide and my mouth hung agape. She was the Wolf? She growled and picked me up by the back of my trench coat and placed me down on my feet. She also grabbed my shotgun and gave it to me before shoving me with her snout.

I can't believe the sheriff found me! He must've saw me last night when I gave the lamb back to its mother. I turned away from him and go back deeper into the cave.

"Hey!"

The sheriff yelled. It hurt my ears and I turn to face him.

"Look, I know yer not completely Wolf. So could ya at least tell me yer name?"

I stood there for a moment, slowly shifting back into my human form and saying, "

"My name is Riley."

And that's the story of how I met my future husband.
