The previous King's harem part 1
Alrighty, SOO. . . Does anyone remember when I posted that chapter on Afal's first three wives? Yeah well, ever since then I've sorta been obsessed with finishing his harem and it resulted in this major art dump. I'm satisfied with how some of them turned out but others don't look very good 😓 I'll probably revise and alter them later but for now I'm just gonna show what I've got.
But before that: King Afal Sakari himself. I've based him off a candy called Rosy Apples.
He has different relationships with each of the women in his harem. Don't worry, despite having a literal harem he's not scum. He doesn't force any of them to do anything they don't want to do and always treats them with respect. He'd even encourage them to divorce him if one of them wanted to leave. Ironically, he's aromatic asexual, and makes it known to any woman who joins the harem apologetically. He lets them know that while he'd never fall in love with them he'd always take care of them and treat them with respect. Most of the women are perfectly fine with this arrangement.
First wife: (Queen) Brusinka Pye. (Brusinka means "Cranberry" in Czech. She's based off a Cranberry pie)
It was rather a miracle that she was able to become queen- influence wise, she was not the best candidate by any means. She was the third princess of an extremely small kingdom that was somewhat rural, and hadn't done anything noticeable in all it's years of existence, but a sudden boom in economics in her kingdom resulted to her being vaulted into first place. So she was chosen as the official wife and queen, despite there being better candidates. Brusinka herself knew that her becoming queen was a thing of pure luck, and hanging by a thread considering many other women were better suited for her role, so she immediately tried her best to consummate the marriage and provide an heir to secure her place. However, there was a problem no one expected- Brusinka couldn't get pregnant. Although she expected him to divorce her due to this, to her and everyone else's surprise, Afal didn't. So she remained queen. When she managed to ask him why he kept her as his wife despite not being able to have children he responds that he wouldn't divorce her for such a stupid reason. After this their relationship becomes a bit warmer. Neither of them are in love with the other though. Eventually Brusinka does give birth to a child; Appel.
Second wife: (Marriage annulled and she was imprisoned) Suklaa Mansikkajuustoa Torttu (it means Chocolate Strawberry Cheese Tart in Finnish. She's based off of a chocolate strawberry cheese tart.)
Before Brusinka's sudden boost, Suklaa was the best option to be queen. She's the daughter of a wealthy Duke who had been known to have close relations with the Royal family for many years. So when she was suddenly ousted from her position as queen, she wasn't too happy, and when Brusinka was announced as unable to have a child, she saw this as her opportunity to gain the throne she had lost. As soon as she became his second wife, Suklaa immediately claimed she was pregnant, which were proven to be true. And since she would be giving birth to a child first, despite not being the queen, her child was the sole heir to the throne. However when Brusinka suddenly became pregnant with Appel the hope that her child would be crowned was squashed since everyone would obviously choose the child of a legitimate wife over one of a practical concubine. She later attempted to kill Appel but was apprehended, put to trial, and punished.
Third wife: Violetti Vaahtokarkki (it means Purple marshmallow in Finnish and she's based off of a purple marshmallow twist. Also, fun fact: the first marshmallows were created by the Egyptians as offerings to their gods. That's were I got her skin color from in homage to marshmallows origins)
origins.
Violetti was chosen as Afal's third wife. She's the niece of a small kingdom's queen so not the most influential, but not low ranking either. She's satisfied with her place is always very calm and refined.
Fourth wife: Kuuma Risti (Finnish for Hot Cross. She's based off a hot cross bun)
Now most of y'all are probably thinking "Wth isn't she a nun, nuns can't marry" Or "It looks like she's wearing the nun's clothing, is she actually a nun?" Well. . . Technicalities. Her story is that she was an orphan raised by nuns in an orphanage. As she got older she wanted to join the monastery become a nun herself and take care of children like the women did for her. However the people in charge of the orphanage had different plans. In an attempt to curry favor with the "New king" who had been known to think very little of the church, they schemed to offer him a bride with religious background to sway him to their side. Thus Hot Cross was chosen. She was in the care of the church, bible loving, attractive, and most importantly, had no one to care about what happened to her. When Hot cross caught wind of what was happening, she immediately tried to join the convent- but no one would allow her to enter since they knew that she was the chosen bride. When the church found out what she had intended to do, they told her to obey them by threatening to cut off the orphanage, throwing all it's occupants into the street. Given no other choice, she was carted away to the palace and presented to the King as the "ideal wife", and due to political reasons, Afal accepted to marry her. Everything went according to the church's plans and the marriage preparations went smoothly. Finally the day of the wedding arrived but what Hot cross did next shocked everyone in attendance. Instead of a bridal gown, she marched down the isle in a nun's habit, holding not flowers, but a bible and scowling for all the world to see. Stomping straight up to Afal she declared that even if no one would allow her access she was a nun and would therefore adhere to all of their rules. Outraged, the church people in attendance immediately launched onto their feet, hissing at her to stop, but was silenced by Afal. Sending the audience out, he turned to hot cross and shocked her by saying that he understood and was sorry to have caused her trouble. After being stunned into silence, Afal continued and asked for her to recount her story, and when she found her voice she did. He listened without interruption and when finished, informed her that he wanted to make a deal. If she married him he would not make any moves or do anything to threaten her beliefs, provide everything she wants, and allow her to do whatever she wished. In return he'd get the political advantages attached to marrying her. They would be husband and wife in name only. Still not wanting to go through with it, but also seeing that it was her best option, she agreed. So they both signed a marriage contract, Hot cross official joined the King's Harem and that was it. She wasn't happy about having to technically become his wife, but true to his words Afal respected her desires and never did anything untoward. Eventually the two became friends of a sort, and as time passed, Hot cross became comfortable with her place in the harem. She still wore the habit though. She was a nun wether they officially recognized her as one or not.
Fifth wife: Treffi Kaf (Treffi is finish for "Date" and Kaf is Arabic for "Palm". She's based off dates (the fruit).
Treffi was from an extremely wealthy family and engaged to marry a sultan more than two times her age. One night at a party, when she went out to get some air on the balcony, she met Afal who was there visiting other Royalty. Not knowing who he was she playfully flirts with him. When he shows no reaction, she finds him amusing and continues to speak with him. They speak for several hours, both growing to enjoy the other's company. After they converse at length, Afal asks where he might be able to meet her to discuss things again. She jokingly tells him that tonight was the only night she had left as herself because in the morning she'd have to give herself to a man she detests. After a few moments she solemnly explains her situation, not wanting to get married and join his harem but not seeing any other choice. Afal listens and remains silent before making her an offer. If he were able to get her out of the marriage would she let him talk with her like they just did again? She laughs and agrees, not thinking him to be serious. The next day, when he actually shows up to her home and breaks the engagement, she's so shocked she can't speak. Upon seeing her surprise he reminds her of the deal they made the night before, saying that he came to make good on it. This causes her to burst out laughing, and she apologizes for forgetting their promise. This leads to her coming back to the Sweets Kingdom with him and joining his harem. Nothing happens between them though, aside from becoming good friends. True to their deal, they simply get together and talk.

There are numerous countermeasures for this, one of them being an enchanted parasol to protect them from the sun. While under it it radiates cold like being in a freezer)

Eighth wife: Dáte Kaf ( Kaf is Arabic for "Palm". She's based off a date)
She's Treffi's cousin (thus the same last name). She and Treffi were very close and was enraged over Treffi's engagement to the Sultan. Upon hearing that her engagement was broken off and taken into the harem of the King of the Sweets Kingdom, she sets off to "rescue" her. Breaking in, she attacks Afal, but is immediately apprehended by two guards. Struggling against them, she yells at Afal "Give my cousin back you lust crazed pervert bastard King!!" Before being dragged away and locked up. She believes that he was the same as the Sultan Treffi had been engaged to marry; a cruel man with no respect for women who only valued them for their bodies. When Treffi figured out what was happening, she confronts Dáte and sets the record straight. Realizing she was wrong, Dáte apologizes, ashamed and embarrassed about her assumptions. Varies things happen which lead to Dáte marrying him and joining his harem. And, unfortunately, falling in love with him. Even with the knowledge that he would not return her feelings.

She's from an EXTREMELY small kingdom. I mean like, really small. Less a kingdom and more of a village. Anyway, she's the only princess of this tiny rural country and one day goes to the Sweets Kingdom, barges into the throne room, and loudly says "PLEASE MARRY ME!" To Afal. With Brusinka besides him. In front of the entire court. And a cow. Don't ask about the cow. Once the initial surprise wore off, guards began to move forward to escort her away while Afal got up to leave and attended to other matters. Not wanting to let him get away, she ducks under the guards, leaps over heads of courtiers, sprints to cut off Afal from the door, and then immediately prostrates herself in front of him. She goes on to tell him that her kingdom was in the middle of a famine and that without aide it would fall into ruin and as it's only princess she had to fix it. She pleads for him to marry her, stating that she'd do whatever he wanted so long as he helped her kingdom. Understanding her feelings, Afal agrees. They do get married but since she was over five years younger than him he never did anything. It was more like he was a guardian than a husband for her. He's really just waiting for the day she falls in love with someone and decides to leave the harem.
