Rey Drawing + Thoughts on Rise of Skywalker
Hey guys!
So I've seen Rise of Skywalker twice now, (dedication yo), and I need to talk about it. So if you haven't seen it, I'd turned back, because spoilers abound.
But first,
Here's a drawing of Rey I did the other day. The shading is a bit to dark, but I like facial shape, I think it turned out nicely. I've been on a bit of a headshot kick lately so expect to see more.
Now, if you haven't seen TROS, get out while you can.
IT WAS SO FREAKING GOOD!!
Okay seriously, I dont get where the bad reviews are coming from. The movie was so intense, so exciting, so not cheesy, it was terrific. The critics are flat out wrong. Here's some of my overall thoughts on the movie:
1. Snoke's identity blew me away. I actually didn't catch the significance of that scene until my friend pointed it out on instagram on the way home from the movie, but yikes. Snoke was a clone, created by Palpatine?? I almost like this better then him being a reincarnated Sith, because the idea that the main villain of the entire new trilogy, is just inconsequential pawn, is really menacing.
2. Everything Exogal. I seriously want to know more! This planet is so creepy, so entrenched in old republic dark side lore, I want more. I love it so much. I was definently feeling this movie had an old republic vibe.
3. I freaking love the threesome of Rey, Poe and Finn. Totally reminding me of Luke Han and Leia. I love Rey and Poe's bickering, and the Poe-Finn bromance, like yes. I love the chemistry sooooo much. You can totally see how these 3 actors have grown together.
4. Hearing Ahsoka's voice when the jedi speak to Rey. This gave me goosebumps guys! Disney finally gave the people what they want and included an actual canon reference to Ahsoka in a movie. *screams with fangirl joy* I literally started freaking out fangirling in the theater at this point.
5. The Easter eggs. This movie is literally full of Easter eggs! I think the more I watch it, the more I'll find. I love Palpatine's quote of himself from Revenge of the Sith, Luke's resurrecting the X-wing, all of it. The Easter eggs are EVERYWHERE if you look.
6. Rey and Leia. Enough said. This gave me so. Much. Freaking. Happiness. Leia was a jedi?? Such and interesting twist, and I just adore her relationship with Rey. Such an awesome goodbye for Carrie Fisher.
7. Rey being a Palpatine. All the hundreds of theories about her parentage, and we all missed by a long shot. Dangggg. I think I actually started to figure it out when Leia said "dont be afraid of who you are", but I still got goosebumps. Talk about a twist no one saw coming! I do have a question though. If Palpatine is Reys grandfather, then what is the meaning of her vision on Ahch-To? I honestly dont see how this vision ties into her parentage. Luke's vision was obviously telling him about his father, but I dont see how Reys told her anything. Sort of a plot hole.
8. Poe and Zori. I love them so much, I really want more content. Fanfic writers, chop chop!
9. D-O. I love this little droid! He's so cute, and literally so relatable. "Hello, *experiences human interaction* no thank you!"
10. The fight scenes. Whoever choreographs the lightsaber duels needs a freaking medal. Everything was so intense and well done.
11. Evil Rey. I'm almost wishing she did go to the dark side just because evil Rey is so cool. I love the lightsaber, I've never seen a design quite like it. The fight between her and Rey was amazing, I jumped out of my skin when she showed her teeth.
12. Last but not least, Reylo. *screams into a pillow*
Somehow Disney managed to give me everything I want while at the same time brutally tearing it away. Why disney? Why?
I love Ben's redemption arc though. For the record guys, I've been saying he would redeemed for like the last 5 years, and no one believed me, so hats off to me for being right.
I just adore everything about his character development. And then at the end. Whyyyyy. We finally got the canon Reylo kiss we've been hoping and dreaming for, and then everything goes up in smoke.
For the record, I at the very least love that Disney got Reylo right. I hate when people accuse Reylo fans of being toxic because it's an abusive ship.
No. It's never been Rey and kyLO ren, its Rey and Ben soLO. Reylo has always been about redemption, and I'm so glad they got that right.
Overall, the only complaint about the movie, besides the soul-crushing ending, I could find is it's a little sappy sometimes, but I seriously had to nitpick to find anything that wasn't well done.
What is with the bad reviews?? It doesn't deserve it! Comment and tell me what you guys think!
