Guys... they're back
Back and crankier than ever, it would appear.
I found these disturbing messages while I was scrolling through Tumblr:
My god... where do I even begin with these?
I can't even look at some of these pictures properly, the toxicity is so bad...
I posted one of these chapters before in my previous Art Book, and I'm seeing a lot of the same problems here. People claiming fictional characters, even characters made by other amateur content creators, as their soulmates and badmouthing anyone they think portrays them the wrong way through their work. Once again, this is not healthy behavior. Yes, you can admire a character, and yes, you can create fan content about them, but you cannot claim them as someone you can date in real life! You cannot claim yourself as the only person who is allowed to create content of a certain character; you also cannot tell another content creator that they are portraying these characters the wrong way - it's called fan work for a reason!
Also, the "My OC, My Rules" thing? Wholeheartedly agree! You are the creator - you decide what your OCs do! If other people don't like it, tough toenails! It's not their story! If they don't like it, they can just stop following your content! And no, one cannot ask another to give them their OC just because "they don't treat them right" - they provide content for the story, so it's essentially kidnapping!
And really? Throwing a tantrum just because a famous content creator follows someone else? That's just life! You don't always get what you want. Please don't take your frustration out on other people.
I gotta admit, the message about the receiver's backup accounts really took me by surprise. First of all, do people really ask this of others? Second of all, uh, no?! You cannot ask another person for use of one of their accounts just because you think you deserve it more - it's rude, it's narcissistic, and I'm pretty sure it's illegal, too. Same with the message above it - no, you cannot claim another creator's art as your own, especially for the reasons this person listed! And "talent hogging"? "Selfish for doing paper art"? How, exactly, do either of these things apply? Somebody explain that to me.
What's a common factor in all of these messages, though, is people thinking that if they complain, they can get a content creator to change their account to their liking. These accounts are these content creators' own personal worlds - they put their work out there for others to see and hope to find a community they can belong to, not some entitled person who thinks they're doing everything wrong. If they don't create what these people find as entertaining, then those people can just find other content that does! They don't need to take out their anger on a content creator just to get something they want.
I'm not sure if any of these came from Wattpad, or if I even did a good job explaining and justifying my reactions to these, but I just want to remind everyone that this kind of online behavior does indeed exist. If you ever get a message like the ones displayed here on any social media platform you use, please block that person, or contact whatever authorities the app has in order to ban them. Our work is our work - no one can move in on that, and certainly no one can change that.
Let me know what you think.
