Okay, I'm not sure how many of you guys remember the Backyardigans; their popularity has dropped off over the years. However, their songs "Castaways" and "Into the Thick of it" have recently gotten some love on TikTok, so I'm going to catch you guys up to speed.

The Backyardigans was a Nickelodeon cartoon that lasted from 2009 to 2013. It had 4 seasons, and each episode had a different music genre from around the world. The five main characters consisted of: Pablo the penguin, Tyrone the moose, Uniqua... er, no one really knows what she is, Tasha the hippo, and Austin the kangaroo. The show portrays them as neighbors with connected backyards. Every episode, they get together and use their imaginations to go on fantastic adventures as anyone they wanted to any time and anyplace on the globe.

The show was designed to expose kids to all sorts of music, ranging from Bossa nova from Brazil, to Bollywood from India. The songs and dance moves in the episodes were original, and even got eight Daytime Emmy Award nominations.

Wall of Sound

When I was a kid, I LOVED this show. It, and Scooby Dooby Doo, were my go to cartoons. Every single episode from either was recorded on my DVR. I actually had a schedule: one day I would watch Backyardigans, and the next I would watch Scooby Dooby Doo. I even sang "Dance For Your Life" from "Break Out" for a talent show!

I did not, however, dance, which probably was confusing for the people in the audience.

I watched these shows until I was seven, then they mysteriously disappeared from the DVR. My parents said the TV probably deleted them because they had been recorded for so long, but now I'm suspecting that I watched the episodes so many times that my parents decided to take matters into their own hands.
