The darkness calms me
But also makes me anxious
I wonder what could be right behind me
What could be ahead of me
And what could be beside me
What lurks within the solemn night
I walk alone
With one earbud in
Listening to my surroundings
Waiting for something to appear
for someone to attack
Some monster to emerge from the dark
Waiting for me to mess up
I walk without light
No flashlight in my hand
Just a fist
My nails digging into my skin
My heart rate increases
As I wait for my doom
I dont feel safe
I want someone to hold me
To stay by my side
And watch my back
Someone who I can count in to protect me
I've been told so many times how stronger I am
But in truth I'm scared
I'm weak
And I need help
I worry about my past
My present
My future
I worry about it all
And I don't think that will change Any time soon
For no one is by my side
Or behind my back
