chapter two
Katelyn's POV
"Has he asked you to the dance yet?"
She looks at me confused as if I had told her that I had seen a real life unicorn walking around her room.
"What?" She questions. "Dark and corrupts actually do that? They ask people to the dance?"
I laugh at her. It's kinda funny to watch her reactions to when she learns something new about our sides of the angel populations. Well, at least the dark and corrupted angels.
"Of course," I tell her, shoving her to the side slightly. She rubs her arm and pouts at me. Clearly, I must've pushed her too hard for her liking. "Laurance already asked me so when is Levi going to ask you?"
She frowns at me as she stands up and walks to the window, hair slightly bouncing while she walks away, and sighs at the tree in front of her window.
"You two are dating Kate, but Levi and I aren't. . . Vylad normally took me to dances, but it's different now, and I'm not aloud to even be by him. But it's okay, our kinds can't interact without punishment anyway."
"He seems to like you. I don't see why he wouldn't ask you."
Alex has only been a corrupted angel for a little bit of time now. She became a corrupted angel last year early spring, late winter, but I've been corrupted for quite a few years, since the age of ten, so I've seen how much hatred pures have casted towards us as I get older. Alex, on the other hand, is still innocent for our kinds. She's like a child in a way. She has a lot to learn. And if it wasn't for the people she tried to save, she could possibly still be a pure angel. But even then, it's hard to explain why this is.
A cool breeze rushes into the room, and I look forward to see the window open with Alex sitting on the sill, looking out at the tree once again.
While this happens, I can hear the sound of something knocking against a wooden object. I turn towards the door and walk over to open it. Laurance looks down at me and smiles, kissing my cheek, and grabs onto my hand. I smile up at him slightly and pull him into the room and shut the door behind him.
He walks over to Alex's bed and sits down on it, And with a raised eyebrow, he looks at me after gazing at the blonde's direction.
"The dance is in a month," he says, oblivious to the fact that he was continuing my past conversation with Alex. "Have you figured out what color your dress is yet?"
I chuckle at him, rolling my eyes, and walk over to sit next to him. I lay my head onto his shoulder and close my eyes beginning to feel at home when he wraps his arm softly around my waist.
"Not yet, Laurance. Calm down. Like you said, the dance is only a month away, and we have plenty of time to worry about our attire. However you know by now for a fact that it'll most likely be some shade of blue. That's just how I roll."
Alex looks at us from across the room.
"If you're going to act like this," she sasses. "Take the PDA to your room. I don't need my bed being the place you fuck in. It's disgusting."
Laurance throws a pillow at Alex, nearly knocking her out the window, and glares at her.
I never said her vocabulary was completely innocent though. Her vocabulary is colorful.

I cling my school supplies to my chest as I walk down the school hallways. I receive dirty looks from pure angels, but I'm used to it by now. Once you get into high school, that's when corrupts and darks watch as pures make sure that they're always separated from us. That's why it's hard to see either a corrupt or dark angel in a sports team at Phoenix Drop High. Pure angels don't like us, so they try whatever they can to make sure that we aren't around them. That even means playing dirty.
I walk to my locker and begin to try to unlock my lock. I fail the first time and groan. But when I fail the second time, my locker receives a blow in the lower area close to the floor. I mumble out profanities, and I become even more annoyed and irritated once I hear the sound of my locker creaking and having to look over to see Aphmau.
I groan, mumbling out my words. "You've got to be kidding me," I look at her, eyes narrowed, as she stares up at me angry. "What do you want Aphmau?"
"You need to stay away from us! You're no good," she points up, waving around a manicured, long purple nailed, finger. "You already take enough of us as it is, and now you're aiming towards Y/N too? She's mine! I'll protect her from you just like I have to do with Taryn. It's bad enough already that Liv and Vylad can never take their eyes off of your table. You all are making me look like the bad guy. Do you know how much work it took to try to get Vylad to forget about Alex? You don't knowbecause you keep letting him watch you all! You especially let him watch that freak show you call your boyfriend's little sister!"
"Shut up, Aphmau," I hiss at her, already grown tired of our little conversation. "I know you enjoy talking just to hear yourself talk, but you should try using the truth and some facts to actually make yourself sound smart. You're right, we let them stare, but we can't do anything about it! Now, if you don't mind, I need to leave so I can get a breath of fresh air because I'm afraid of your stupidity intoxicating my brain. Thanks. Ba-bye!"
She huffs out a cry of defeat and stomps her foot before storming away. Sadly, that was just the calm of the storm. There'll be more, and I won't hear the end of it from them. This is a normal thing to deal with when you're not like one of them. You're attacked and targeted because you're different, and you can't do anything about it. The word travels quickly around the school like a bullet rocketing through the air, and it's only a matter of time until you're hit. You're left wounded, and people continue to wonder as of why we're corrupted and dark.
In the end, nobody does anything to stop it from progressing.
I look over by one side of the bleachers to see Elijah, Lavender, and Amethyst all talking to each other while Cloud and Lyla are off to the corner of the hallway laughing at something on Lyla's phone. Grabbing onto my new school supplies, I spot Laurance by Levi and Alex further down the hallway and quickly walk over by them.
Levi looks up at me and nods as Alex smiles. I wave at the both of them and notice that Levi is carrying her supplies. She looks at me and shrugs which I smirk at her with a knowing expression plastered on my face.
Laurance looks down at me adoringly and kisses my cheek as a greeting. "Ready to go to class, babe?"
"Yeah, lets go."
I don't tell him until later that day about my interaction with Aphmau.
