chapter thirteen

Vylad's POV

It's a few mere days before the dance, and mom has already made sure that we're prepared for it. I don't have a date, and this seems to upset her because she thought I would've gone with Y/N. It's hard to tell her that Y/N is being forced to go with Laurance or else Hell would be unleaded. Nobody wants to tells Aphmau the situation at hand, but I personally think that's what's best. . . especially not to tell Garroth because then Aphmau will know.

As if it were even possible before, Alex had been even more distant from me than she was before. I know we shouldn't mix because of our wings, but I can't help but want to be around her.

But now she's around the other three all the time, and she sends glares in my direction. I don't know what even happened.

Y/N is in and out of the pure circle. Sometimes she's slyly snuck (more like forced) over to the dark side to talk to Laurance. Katelyn seems as though she'd be willing to rip Y/N to spreads, but I don't even know what happened. I don't even know why Laurance has a sudden interest in Y/N.

Garroth places his hand on my shoulder, and I can't help but flinch at the sudden action. Slowly I turn my head to look up at him, and he gives me both a confused and cocky expression on his face.

"Did you really just flinch at my touch? Oh, come on baby brother. Don't be so stupid." I open my mouth to speak, but it closes by itself. I have nothing to say. I don't know what I can even say anyway. "What's got your mind elsewhere?"

My words are slow and quiet, almost as though I had never spoken English before. "I was just thinking. It's nothing that important. I'm always thinking."

"Where you thinking of Alex again? I've warned you before, Vylad. Don't make me take action again."

I stare up at Garroth, shaking my head side to side to push away his words. I don't need that to happen again. By Garroth getting involved in the past, everything became bad.

"No, Garroth, it's nothing like that!" I panic, my eyes wide as fear hides themselves into the green color. "I was just thinking of Y/N. That's all."

"Y/N?" He sounds confused at first, and his eyebrows furrow together to show his confusion. It isn't until minutes later where his cocky grin slaps itself back onto his face and he lazily puts his hand back on my shoulder. I flinch once more, but he doesn't seem to notice it. "Oh, Y/N! Of course it's Y/N. I'm so proud of you. You're moving onto bigger and better things than what you settled for before. She's quite the catch. If I didn't have Aphmau, I'd go after Y/N. You go get her tiger." Garroth makes a strange tiger noise and even uses his hands like he has claws on them. I begin to suffer from second hand embarrassment. This doesn't last that long before he begins to look around. "Hey, where's Y/N anyway?"

I bite my lip and hold onto my supplies tighter, making up an excuse to leave. It goes over his head and he nods. I begin to walk away quickly, and Garroth reminds me to remember what he told me.

When I successfully get away from him, I lean again a nearby walls and close my eyes. A heavy sigh escapes my lips, and a sudden wave of dread overcomes me. I hate doing this.

Why can't I just be happy?

The school day is about three fourths over with, and Y/N has been stuck over by the dark side. I'm beginning to worry because if she's there too long and Aphmau finds out, we can all pay the consequences for it. Nobody wants to tell Aphmau because of that. When Garroth is mad, it's terrifying. But when Aphmau is mad, you may want to run for cover. And when they are a team, I can't help but wish things would've gone differently.

So now my wings are hidden as I make my way over to where all the dark angels. Normally Laurance would be in the heart of them all or hidden in the back.

I can see him with Y/N and the other three sitting on a table, and Y/N seems oblivious to what is happening. Laurance and I lock eyes, and he rolls his eyes in annoyance. He turns to Alex, and the next thing I know is she's coming over to us.

She hasn't been mean to me with words since she's turned, so I'm not frightened that she was sent. She's only been glaring at me, and we haven't talked.

"Vylad, why are you here?" She asks, standing directly in front of me as she crosses her arms over her chest. "You're not allowed to be here. Leave."

I stare at her, confused. "What? It's a public school. There's technically nothing here that doesn't allow me here and you know that. You've broken that rule before and you know it," I remind her, frowning. "Besides, I'm here to get Y/N."

She scoffs and turns around to walk away from me. "Of course you are." I reach out to grab onto her hand, and I can feel her wrist soon in my grasp. She snaps her head back to me and glares. "Let me go. I'm telling Laurance to release your little lover."

I sigh and shake my head. "Alex, you know that isn't the case. What we had-"

"What we had is over with, Vylad, and you know that. You need to come to terms with that. Maybe you just love the idea of me more than who I am."

"This isn't you," I tell her, slowly letting go of her arm as she freezes but soon shakes her head.

"That doesn't mean anything," she spats. "Tell your little birdy to stop kissing and telling."

Something goes wrong quickly as I'm left to walk home by myself. I was tattled on by the other side for going over to them and speaking to Alex. Funny how they left out that I went to get Y/N. But then again, it doesn't surprise me whatsoever.

When I get home, my mom is sitting on the sofa facing the front door, shaking her head at me. She seems angry and upset.

"Why can't you be more like Garroth?" She asks before pointing in the direction of the stairs. "Go to your room and think of your actions. We'll talk about this later."

I sigh and nod my head. There's no point in fighting. I doubt she'd listen, and she'd believe Garroth over me anyway.

I trudge my feet up the stairs and walk to my door. My hand lingers on the doorknob and I turn my head to look at Garroth's door. It's closed like every other door on this floor. I shake my head and open the door only to see my room a mess and picture frames broken and face down.

I soon realize that it's only pictures that contain Alex in them, and I'm left holding a broken frame in my hands. Her face is crossed out with an 'X,' and this words 'this is only a warning' is written over the picture itself. I can make more copies of these photos, but I know this is Garroth's doing.
