Oneshot 29

This is for 112O11

This is a deaf!America oneshot!

Sorry, I've been gone for a bit, but I started my spring semester of college on Wednesday! It actually is turning out to be really fun! I made a whole bunch of new friends who are weebs just like meeeee (also found a veteran Hetalian in the group!) My creative writing teacher is amazing and even said that I could write chapters of "His Dearest Gem" in the place of an assignment if I had to! So, now that I finished my statistics homework and filmed my ASL homework, I'm going to write!

From the moment Finland found America, he knew the boy was a nation. He tried time and time again to grab the younger's attention, but he always ran away scared or alone. When Finland told this to England and France, the two thought it was awfully strange. Normally a colony would gravitate to another nation, which caused the two bickering Europeans to wager who little America would like better. Finland eventually lead the two nations to the little boy, who was hiding in a bush. The boy didn't run away this time, instead, he looked right at England. The boy slowly walked up to the elder, silent as a lamb. The three elder nations were about to talk when an extremely loud clash of thunder made them all jump. They looked around and saw huge black clouds gathering in the distance, so England snatched the young colony and all three nations ran to the nearest cottage. Finland opened the door to his warm home and the others ran in, barely saving themselves from the downpour. Sweden was making food when he heard the harsh footsteps enter his shared house. When he turned he saw France, Finland, and England panting. He also noticed a shivering bundle in England's arms, making him quickly approach the group with some rags to dry themselves. Once the group was dry and warm, they gathered at the table and began to eat Sweden's stew. America was sat in England's lap as the elder fed him, quickly falling asleep afterward.

"Did anybody else notice America didn't jump when the thunder crashed?" Finland inquired as he looked at the sleeping bundle.

"Oui, it was as if 'e wasn't even fazed,"

"I guess we could ask when the little one awakes," England finished as the group fell asleep. The following day was spent trying to get America to speak to them, but they soon realized America was nonverbal. This caused them to be curious, why wasn't he talking? That's when Finland got the idea that maybe America didn't understand their language, and decided to draw in the dirt with a stick. That's when the four nations found out America wasn't nonverbal, America was deaf. America couldn't hear the elders speaking, the nature around him, nothing.

This worried the four greatly, a deaf nation was unheard of. Deaf people were considered to be toxic, contagious, or even witches. America was in danger if he was to stay by himself. So, they all came to an agreement. Since England was the strongest of the bunch, he was to be America's caretaker. France was to help invent a language for him so America could communicate. Finland and Sweden were to be his protectors when England wasn't around, which the two were fine with. The two Nordics were able to befriend a bunch of different creatures with the help of Norway and Denmark, to look after young America. After all was said and done, only the Nordic five, England, and France knew of America's disability.

After America gained his independence, Prussia learned through France about America's disability and threatened the albino's life if he told a soul. Prussia also began to look after America and the exclusive group helped America learn how to lip read before his first world meeting and feel his voice tone. He was speaking like a hearing person in no time and was able to get through his first world meeting flawlessly. The group remained small and America's "brave valor" was beginning to spread throughout the world. America was known for how he could charge into battle while explosions went off around him, with not an ounce of fear on his face. They didn't know it wasn't bravery that made him totally fearless but because he couldn't hear the explosions in the first place.

America kept up this facade for centuries, until one day...

America was walking in the hall, happily chatting with Japan and South Korea about the newest manga that just came out. The three entered the meeting hall and sat in their seats as the meeting was called to order. Just then a knock interrupted the furthering of the meeting and a man entered the room.

"My apologies, but I am in need of America's assistance. You see, we are in urgent need of an interrupter," the man looked the nation, who stood up.

"Is something wrong?" he asked. Just as he said that screaming echoed through the hallway, and the nations saw dozens of people rush into the meeting room in fear.

"Some deaf veteran has a gun and is holding up the lobby!" one lady shouted, trembling as she slammed the door shut.

"Ok, ok I'm on it," America rushed out and went to the receptionist's desk. He knew the guy all too well. He served alongside him in the Vietnam War and both witnessed some horrific shit. The guy's name was Duncan, and Alfred knew he just lost his grandson in the Iraq War two months back. America didn't notice that as he approached him that random nations had chased after him. America went up to him slowly as Duncan turned to him. He was holding the gun to the woman's head, crying. But upon seeing Alfred, he froze. Alfred began to sign.

Duncan, you remember me? It's Alfred, from Vietnam. Yes, that's right, I'm here. Let her go, she didn't do anything wrong.

The group didn't understand, so Germany quickly translated since he learned sign language from America after World War II.

It's not possible, you'd be crippled like me! Stop your lies!

Duncan, I can assure you it's me. I know you lost Anthony a while back, but this isn't the way.

He went to Iraq to make me proud! It's all my fault he didn't come home!

So why are you going to kill her, she didn't do anything!

I'm already going to rot in hell for what I've done. Might as well go there with someone.

This isn't right, what would Anthony say? He wouldn't want this. Just let her go, we can solve this together, please.

Alfred slowly reached forward as Duncan loosened his grip on the girl, dropping the gun and beginning to cry. The receptionist ran into Alfred who instructed her behind him as he went forward and embraced Duncan. He kicked the gun a good yard away from them as they both fell to their knees. The crowd clapped as Alfred helped guide Duncan to the ambulance.

"He's a Vietnam vet, lost his son in Iraq two months back. Just get him a psych evaluation. If he needs anything like medications or housing, please contact this number. I'll pay for everything and assure he is taken care of," he handed the business card to the EMT who nodded and went to the ambulance. The crowd berated him with cheers and a little girl even gave him a dandelion. As he returned to the meeting room, he was met with more cheers from his nation comrades.

"Muy bien, America! But amigo, where did you learn sign language?" Spain asked, clapping.

"Da, I wish to learn that as well," Russia added. The group of nations looked to America, who sighed.

"The language was basically invented for me, right papa?" he asked France. The group looked confused while some looked mortified. England began to sign.

Lad, what are you doing you, bloody git?!

It's time they knew, Iggy

"I was born a deaf nation. When France, England, Finland, and Sweden found me they discovered I needed help. So France dedicated himself to inventing a language for me. That was also the reason England was my primary caretaker. Since England was the strongest and I was a deaf person in the 16th century, they thought England could protect me best. The Nordics all helped as well, and Prussia too. They're the only ones who knew this whole time. Prussia, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark helped me learn to lip read and feel tone so I could speak. It's really simple,"

"A deaf superpower, that is amazing aru!" China exclaimed. Many others agreed.

"So, that's vhy jou taught me American Sign Language?" Germany inquired with a small smile.

"Yep!" America winked at the strict blonde. Many wanted to ask questions to America, but he quickly defused them, "we can talk about this on break. For now, let's continue the meeting," The group nodded happily and took their seats. After that, many nations actually liked the supposedly "annoying" American.

All of the nations grew to respect America after that, especially his enemies.
