Oneshot 27

This is for Meraki7734

This oneshot is going to be a blind!america oneshot.

Now, a quick personal history lesson. I dated a blind man for nearly two years and we were very serious. We were at the point in our relationship where he would most likely propose to me (I was 20, now 21). Case in point, I know from personal experience how to write a blind character. My ex (yes he's my ex) was a very independent person and never let his disabilities hinder him. I'm going to write like how my ex was in terms of his disability. I understand every blind person acts different and has their own system, but I'm using my personal experience.

Thank you!

America was a strong nation, a very strong nation. I mean, he grew to be the youngest superpower in the world within a century. Many nations admired him, some for looks and some for power. Many of the elder male nations respected him, including Switzerland and Russia. He was the first white nation to ever establish not just economical, but also personal friendships with the Asian nations. The first Asian nation he befriended being China, which shocked all the European countries. America had wealth, family, friends, power, and respect. He had the world in the palm of his hands.

But, none of them know just how much respect America deserves. You see, America went to his first world meeting in 1790 and appeared at every single one up until 1814. Many thought it was because of the war going on between England and America, which caused a lot of the nations to frown upon the older European nation. In a sense, they were correct. But it wasn't the military work that kept America busy, it was learning to cope with his newly inflicted blindness.

America had been working to get everybody out of the White House as it burned to the ground. Once he was sure everybody was safe he began to escape the blaze. Sadly, before he reached the clearing, a beam collapsed and smacked America in the back of the skull. The last thing America remembered seeing was England holding a torch, laughing while Canada was quietly whimpering behind him.

James Madison became worried when Alfred did not return to their designated hideout and sent search parties to find him. When they returned, Madison was in tears. America was in awful condition. His burnt and bloody body smelt of char and he was covered in soot. He and the medical teams nursed Alfred's wounds until America awoke three days later. To everyone's surprise, Alfred began to cry as he kept feeling around. When Madison asked what was wrong, America replied with the most terrifying whisper he could ever muster.

"Boss, I can't see,"

Madison's heart broke at the distraught nature of his nation. So, he hired the best instructors he could find. He was going to make sure America came back from this and became stronger. He ended up traveling to France to bring back the best of the best. America was taught how to read braille, memorize surroundings, and basically adapt to his world. He worked on his progress for almost a decade, when he finally perfected his abilities.

After a few years of meetings, he was finally adjusted to the nations. America didn't need a cane or dog, he was able to use his sense of smell to identify others, and he even worked on typing when technology advanced. Nobody ever knew about America's blindness.

America never forgave England for taking his sight away. How could anybody forgive that? Which is what made this one particular argument so impactful. It was the World Conference in Paris that his secret came out. This is where we begin our tale.

"You bloody git! Watch where you're going?!" England was on the floor as America offered a hand.

"Sorry Iggy, I wasn't watching where I was going. Let me help you," England gently grabbed America's hand as the younger pulled him up. France approached from behind and patted America's back.

"Why must you always be so angry, Angleterre? 'e waz just walking," Francis opened the door for the pair. Inside the conference room was every nation, plus a few strangers who were holding papers. Nobody had ever seen these people before, but as they approached America many didn't question it.

"Mr. America, we 'ave zese paper for you," one said as he handed the large pile over. America nodded as the trio of strangers left. Francis knew the three men, they were part of his private disability accommodation crew. So with a cocked eyebrow, France glared at the papers. His eyes widened when he saw that they were business documents in braille. France made a mental note to ask later, unaware that he wouldn't have to.

The meeting picked up and quickly spiraled into its usual chaos. Many nations quickly began fighting one another and arguments were being shouted across the room. The loud yells could probably be heard from the moon if the walls were soundproof.

"Oh please, you twat! You don't have any bragging rights!" England spat.

"Why don't I have bragging rights, England?! I'm the sole superpower at 250! What else do I need to do to impress your high maintenance ass?!" America yelled back.

"You think just cause you're a superpower that young you can brag about it?! I worked for centuries and climbed my way to riches! All while I was raising colonies and having a crazy monarch hover over me!"

"What the hell?! I've got 60 kids you ass!"

"Yes, and most of them are lovely! But that's all you really have! In retrospect, you're pretty weak!"

"How the fuck do you figure that?!" most nations quieted their own arguments to listen.

"Your first century was a mess in it of itself! You had a Civil War not even a century in!"

"Yea! Because you and every other European who settled on my land brought slavery there!"

"Face it America, you really aren't as strong or as smart as you believe. What did you accomplish that I haven't?"

"Hm, let me see! I saved your ass in both world wars! Built the strongest army on the globe! I established my government within a decade! I'm the only Democratic Rebuplic left! I've beat basically everybody I've gone against, aside from Vietnam! I provide not only medical but financial aid after every disaster to basically anyone who asks for it! I never ask for anything back and basically forgave everybody's debts out of the goodness of my heart! And to top it all off, I'm fucking blind! Literally! These glasses aren't real! I've been blind since 1814 when you burnt the capital down! I fought every single war blind! I've aided every nation blind! I raised 60 kids blind! Can you brag that you conquered the world while not even being able to fucking see it?! Cause I fucking can!" America exploded and stormed out of the hall.

Every single nation was silent, especially England. Just as quick as everybody froze, they all ran out to find America. England was running frantically through the halls, calling out for Alfred. They all split up and searched all of Paris, but it was France who found America on top of the Eiffel Tower. He slowly approached America from behind.

"Amerique?" France asked, making Alfred grunt. He then went to Alfred's side and looked out to the Paris skyline, "Want to talk about it?"

"I'm sorry I kept it a secret. I probably should have told someone, but I was just so scared that they would think I was weak," America stood straight and inhaled deeply, "I always like the smell of Paris. I bet it's beautiful," America had a few tears slip from his eyes. Francis hugged Alfred closely, allowing the younger to cry into his shoulder.

"Shh shh, it iz ok. I've got you," France comforted his son.

"Ya know, Madison came to France to bring back instructors. To teach me how to function again," America chuckled softly, "it kinda sucks. I was blinded so young, so a lot of what is around I never truly saw. I miss it: I miss star gazing, I miss being able to see the people I love smile, I miss seeing nature, I miss seeing colors of the sunrise or sunset. There's a lot I haven't experienced because of what England did. I never even got to see Lady Liberty, I was acting when I said how beautiful it was. I wish I could have seen it Francis, I really do. I have zero doubts that it's an amazing statue,"

"Amerique," France cupped America's face and wiped his tears with his thumbs, "zis just proves 'ow strong you truly are. You poor boy, you were so young when 'e did zat,"

"The last thing I saw was him laughing at my burning capital. He was laughing at me dying while holding a torch, all while poor Canada was crying behind him. I would do anything, just for one day, to see the world again. I want to see the stars, my friends and family, everything I haven't experienced. But, they don't know how to fix it, fix me"

"Well, I zink we should head back to ze hotel. It iz getting late, we will discuss zis more after a good meal," Francis kissed America's temple and helped him back to the hotel. As soon as they entered, Canada tackled America to the ground in tears.

"Holy Maple almighty, Alfred please forgive me! Please, please, please forgive me!" Canada was bawling his eyes out. Alfred hugged his brother and chuckled cutely.

"You didn't do anything, bro. There's nothing I need to forgive. England is the one who did this to me," Germany helped America and Canada up.

"Ve talked vith England und he-"

"Vest vhat do jou mean ve 'talked' vith him! Ve beat his ass!" Prussia pushed Germany and embraced America. America laughed as he patted Prussia's head.

"Why doesn't that really surprise me?"

"He deserved it," Denmark added, embracing his bestie's other side closely.

"Glad I've got some people to have my back," Alfred's stomach growled loudly, making the small group laugh.

"Vest! Vhat's for dinner!" Prussia whined, "can ve have vurst!"

"Nein! Ve are having vhat France makes! I von't be rude!"

"Franceeee, can jou make vurst?!" Prussia whined again. The group made it to America's hotel room and France helped America cook. France took mental noted about how Alfred moved around the kitchen. He noticed how America knew exactly where to fill on a measuring cup, the buttons and knobs on the stove, and even how to cook with a pan. America smiled as the two of them cooked chicken cordon bleu, working in perfect sync. Once everything was ready, America set the table and Germany, Prussia, Denmark, Canada, and France sat around the round table. America brought out glasses for drinks and poured wine for all of them.

"America, how are you able to pour drinks and stuff?" Canada asked as America sat down.

"I feel the glass. I put my finger on a certain part of the glass. The wine was room temperature, meaning that when I felt the warmth on my finger I stop pouring. In cases where the drink and glass are the same temperatures, like if I order a beer at a fancy restaurant since they normally chill the glasses, I feel its weight. If the glass gets to a certain weight I stop pouring, since it usually means I filled it about 3/4. When you're like this for two centuries you pick up a few tricks," America shrugged as he took a bite of food.

"Vhat about ze food? Jour cooking has alvays been good, but how do jou vork?" Prussia took an inhumane size bite of food.

"In my house, I have a set up that I never change. Like my cabinets are organized so that I can grab the right containers. I also learned to cook by memorizing the average weight of cooking equipment. Like, say I'm going to bake cookies. I can go into my lower cabinet that's to the right of my fridge and grab a thin baking sheet, reach to the cabinet that's three over to the right and grab parchment paper rather than tinfoil, then reach over my stove to get the mixer. My fridge isn't organized since I have 5 kids who live with me, but I get the hang of feeling around. I know how much my measuring tools weigh and also memorized how much a measurement weighs. So if I feel like I poured 1/2 a cup of whole milk into my measuring glass, it's because I can sense the weight of my measuring cup," America explained as everyone's mouth was agape, "close your mouths or you'll catch flies," he smirked.

"Man, America. You deserve a lot more respect than what you get," Denmark added. America chuckled and shrugged, about to take another bite when a knock came to his door. America then proceeded to get up and open the door.

"America, we came because we wanted to inspect your eyes," it was Switzerland and China, "afterall, this has never happened before,"

"Yea, we can come back in an hour if you're busy, aru," China added.

"Nah, you guys can come in. We made plenty more," America moved to the side as the two walked in. France grabbed more chairs as Alfred served them.

"You function so well, it's hard to believe you're blind," Switzerland smiled as he took a bite.

"Two centuries gave me a lot of time to learn," Alfred smiled as everybody began to eat. After the nice meal, Switzerland and China began a typical eye exam on America.

"America, where there any accidents that could have caused this?" China asked as he clicked his pen.

"Well, I stopped seeing after the White House burned down. I remember nearly getting out when what I'm guessing was a beam or rafter collapsed and smacked the back of my head. That knocked me out and when I opened my eyes I just saw black. Been blind ever since," Canada sniffed and it was clear he was crying, "Mattie, you didn't do anything. You were crying the last time I saw you. Britain was the one laughing with a torch in his hands, not you. Besides, I burned York so I call it even,"

"Even?! America, I got heartburn! You became blind! In what universe is that even?!" Canada cried harder. America opened his arms and Matthew quickly snuggled into his brother's embrace.

"Aiya, you poor thing. Opium is a monster for doing that to you," China then looked to Switzerland who was looking at a few photos.

"It seems like every part of your eye isn't damaged. Your retinas and lens are perfect and there is no scarring whatsoever. Your pupils take in light just fine, but they don't seem to be refracting it,"

"Hm, so kinda like a black hole. Sweet," America chuckled as Canada smacked the back of his head lightly. Another knock came to the door, so France excused himself to get it.

"I don't think any surgery can fix this, our medicine isn't that advanced yet. It might be a brain issue since your head is what was hit before you went blind," Switzerland explained sadly.

"Then perhaps I can help?" a voice from the doorway.

"Hey Norway," America waved happily. Norway nodded and walked closer to America.

"How can you help, aru?" China scoffed.

"Magic," Denmark answered, "right Norge?"

"Yes, now let me see your face America," Norway lightly commanded. America did as told as Norway gently grabbed his face. He felt something like glitter cover his bare eyes, making him quickly back up in shock. Norway chanted a saying quietly and America could feel the glitter disappear.

"Huh?" many of the nations made the noise, making America laugh.

"When you wake up," Norway smiled softly and walked out of the room.

"You guys wanna sleep in my room?" America asked.

"Ja!" Prussia yelped, "I call ze second bed!"

"Bullshit!" Switzerland yelled, jumping up. After a lengthy argument, sleeping arrangements were settled and they prepared for bed. Alfred was sleeping in between Canada and France, who both were coddling him. Prussia and Denmark were sleeping on the pullout couch. Switzerland and Germany settled for sleeping on the chairs since China needed the second bed for his bad back. Everybody fell asleep in their designated spots without an issue.

Morning came and Alfred was the first one awake. His eyes opened and he began to cry as he gazed at his sleeping brother. He then looked around and saw all of his friends and family spread around the large room. More tears began to rapidly fall down his cheeks as he gently untangled himself from his father and brother, going to the small balcony. He cried more as he saw the sunrise paint the sky beautifully.

"I-I can see..." he whispered happily, wiping his tears, "I forgot what it feels like to see things. It's so beautiful," America continued to cry as he went back inside and began to cook breakfast for his buddies. Another hour passed before Germany woke up, joining America in the kitchen.

"Gute morgen, America," Germany slurred while rubbing his eyes. America turned around and Germany saw he was crying.

"I can see, Germany. I can actually see. You got taller since the last time I saw you, you were like the size of Prussia's legs. Oh my God, this is the best," Alfred hugged Ludwig as the taller blonde began to cry.

"Vhat's vith ze crying?" Prussia mumbled. He was suddenly tackled to the ground.

"It worked, dude! I can see again!" Prussia was shocked but hugged America. France walked in next and saw the crying America, "it worked, France! I can see again!" France began to cry as he hugged America.

"What's going on, aru?" Switzerland and China walked in.

"Amerique can see! Zat magic worked!" France exclaimed. China knelt to America's side and dried his tears.

"Norge's magic never fails!" Denmark playfully smacked France. Just then, Canada came in.

"Come here, Mattie!" the two brothers cried, "finally, I can see you," America whispered.

"Alfie, I'm so happy," Mattie kissed Alfred's forehead. The two got a good look at each other.

"I miss this. Can we do more?!" America was bouncing with happiness. The group all laughed at him.

"Ve should eat first," Germany explained, pointing to the stove. The group all cooked in the kitchen and ate happily. Once they got ready, they left the hotel room. Many nations were in the lobby, including Norway. America smiled and pounced on top of the Nordic.

"Thank you, Norway! Thank you so so much!" America exclaimed. The stoic nation laughed and scruffed America's hair.

"No problem America," America then happily left and explored Paris. The group went everywhere they could, finishing their day on top of the Eiffel Tower to watch the sunset. The nations held their breaths as America approached the edge and inhaled.

"It's as beautiful as I imagined," he whispered as he wiped his tears. The stars twinkled above them, "stars. I missed the stars the most,"

"Well, now you can look at them every night," Canada hugged his brother. America loved having his sight back. But blindness did have perks.

Being blind taught him how much he took for granted.

He never ever made that mistake again.
