Just something I thought about
TRIGGERS- WAR, CHARACTER DEATHS
—————————————
It was quiet in the meeting room for the first time in existence. America sat at the head of the table, shuffling paperwork. This was a world meeting after all, so he had to be prepared. He looked at the table with a quivering smile, the clock reading noon. The blonde tried to hold in his cries as he looked at all the empty chairs that were once filled with his friends, family, and fellow nations. Now, it was only him. He was the a sole survivor.
"Meeting adjourned, then," America quietly announced to the empty void. He packed up his paperwork and walked to the door slowly. He got to the hallway and to his car. He passed a few citizens on the way, trying his best to keep that plastered smile on his face. But as soon as he got into his car, he broke. His sobs were quiet but his body was shaking terribly. This wasn't what he wanted.
World War III has broken out and no country, not even Switzerland, was left out. Nuclear weapons rained everyday and many countries didn't even last a month in combat. America's defenses were unmatched, so no nuclear weapons were ever able to make it to his shores. This is why every nations would send their people to him, to protect them even if it meant they would fade. Alfred watched for two years, nation after nation, disappear into light. He watched his own twin die and fade in his arms. His papa, dad, and papi had lost an air battle with the enemy and faded right before Alfred could offer aid. Russia, his husband, destroyed by his own government and people, being nuked by his own weapons. The world was empty now, no other country existed. It was only America.
America drove to the private cemetery where all the nations had been memorialized. Each tombstone has something of theirs: Italy and Romano had white flags, Japan had his katana, China had his stuffed panda, Germany and Prussia had their crosses, and so on. America smiled at the tombstones and knelt at the front.
"The meetings are so boring without all of you. You're people are doing fine, I'm still here to protect them," America's smile dropped, "I'm sorry I couldn't do the same for any of you..." America felt a tear slip down his cheek. America wiped it away and stood up, climbing the small cliff that looked over the graveyard. He sat there, looking out to the ocean and smelling the salty air. Most of the world was toxic now, only America had soil and water which was safe. The government had taken great care of themselves upon receiving other citizens, they fixed all natural problems like pesticides and lead filled water. The other citizens felt comfortable, but missed their homes.
"If only there was a way to reverse this...to let them live...and me die," just as Alfred said that, a pulse radiated through his body. He felt his heart glow, so he put his hand over it. He closed his eyes and let the wind blow on him. The blonde smiled and nodded, "I understand," he whispered as he stood up and faced the graves. He placed his hands over his heart again and a white light glowed, "you all are a part of me...I think it's time I give it back..." Alfred held his glowing hand towards the graves and took another deep breath. He then nodded.
"Return what we've lost, retrieve them from time, restore the world, to its former prime. Residing inside me, you all hold a part, of who I am, and a piece of my heart. Now with all my power, for this is no lie, I give you all of me, so that I am the sole person to die. This sacrifice I make, this choice I condone, please bring them back, and ancients guide me home," Alfred's chant echoed and the glow brightened. Suddenly, Alfred felt it. Light flowed from his chest in spurts and flew to a grave, making nation after nation appear. The graves were replaced by bodies, all of which were confused. Alfred's last spurt flew to England's grave, and the big browed blonde appeared. None of the nations saw America on the hill, they were to busy reuniting with family and loved ones. Alfred smiled down at the site, but knew he had to do more to help them. He turned around and held his heart again, energy pooling inside of him. He began to float up when his foot was caught by a large hand. Alfred looked down to see his husband, the violet eyes filled with tears.
"Fredka, where are you going?! You can't leave me! I just got back!" Ivan screamed, successfully getting the attention of everyone. Canada, England, and France ran up the hill.
"Alfie! What happened?! Why are you glowing?!" Canada asked worriedly.
"Mon fills, why are we 'ere?" France questioned scared. England looked at America, his glowing body floating like a free spirit. It clicked instantly what he had done, and England growled.
"YOU GIT!!! PLEASE TELL ME YOU DIDN'T DO WHAT I THINK YOU DID!!!" England screamed. England roughly tugged Alfred to the ground and hugged him tightly, "please tell me you didn't give us your life... please tell me this isn't happening and it's just some freak occurrence that's also a miracle..." England began to cry as Alfred stayed quiet. It only confirmed England's suspicion. Prussia and Denmark ran up and tackled their awesome bestie.
"Vhat is England talking about? Vhat did jou do, kid?!" Prussia yelled as tears flew from his eyes. Mathias was also crying.
"Please tell me this isn't happening..." Mathias was crying. Alfred wiped his tears and smiled brightly. Standing up and helping the others up.
"I don't want to leave until I see you smile," Alfred said softly. The others were beginning to cry. Italy ran up to America and hugged him.
"ALFREDO NO!!! YOU CANT LEAVE!!! PLEASE!!! IF YOU STAY I WILL MAKE YOU AS MUCH PASTA AS YOU WANT!!!" Italy pleaded. Alfred hugged Italy tightly.
"I had to Feli. Please, smile. I hate seeing you sad," Alfred looked out to all the nations. It even Finland was smiling, "please, all of you smile. It's a bummer to see you all sad. I want to see you all smile!" Alfred smiled, hoping it would be contagious. But nope. Russia hugged him close and kissed him deeply, tears streaming down his cold, pale cheeks.
"I just got you back, Fredka. I don't want to loose you," Russia whispered as he hugged Alfred closer.
"I had to if it meant you all would come back. I'm only one nation. You all deserve to live after I failed to protect you," Alfred retorted. The sun began to set and the star filled night sky covered them. Alfred looked up and smiled, he glowed brighter.
"NO ARU!" China pounced onto America, tears flying from his eyes. S Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, and Hong Kong all did the same. Australia also held him down.
"I wirr not ret you reave us!" Japan was crying.
"Ya da-ze! We need you!" South Korea shouted. Alfred smiled and hugged all of them, standing up while holding them. Most of the nations couldn't confront him, it hurt too much. Alfred looked down at them all and smiled softly.
"Please, can you all smile? For me?" Alfred asked one last time. A few nations still didn't smile, but most attempted. Alfred walked backwards as the white glow nearly engulfed him, "now... Before I head out... I'll help you guys out one last time... you know why?" The crowd knew, and smiles finally graced all their faces, "CAUSE IM THE HERO!!!"
Alfred winked as he flew to the sky, still smiling as he placed a hand over his heart. Once in the thermosphere, he bursted into a bright aurora that colored the entire planet. The nations looked up in awe as they saw sparkling specs rain down and heal the polluted toxic land. The air became fresh again and all the water was clean. It was as if Alfred was helping the world be reborn. The nations all basked in the sparkles, feeling them rain down on them and their lands. They all were still crying a bit, but they felt Alfred's warmth envelope them with the sparkles touching their skin. The aurora finally finished, a small star falling toward the cliff and into the place Alfred one stood.
They watched as the star turned into a large tree, a new type of tree. It was tall and indestructible like a red wood, shaped like a weeping willow, and had bright baby blue blossoms almost like a cherry blossom tree. It smelt of fresh snow, cinnamon, vanilla, and apples. This tree was now Alfred, there for them. There to comfort them, shield them, make them feel happy. The nations all smiled at the tree and kissed its trunk before leaving.
They made it a point to visit very often, all of them gathered once a month to have a picnic right in front of Alfred's tree. Anytime they needed comfort, they went to the tree to talk or just rest. Canada and Russia visited most often, leaving gifts like roses or daisies at the trunk. The nations worked together like never before, saddened and driven by the lost of their most optimistic comrade. No wars ever broke out again, and one the one hundred anniversary Russia arrived at sunrise before anyone to talk to Alfred.
"One hundred years, sunflower. You've been gone for one hundred years. It has been working, nobody ever fights. We all miss you, Fredka. I miss your hugs and kisses. I miss your laugh and smile. I miss your innocent rare eyes and rosy chubby cheeks. I miss the way you always made me feel needed, wanted, loved. I would do anything to have you back," Russia felt a soft tap on his shoulder. He turned to meet the familiar sapphires he fell in love with.
"You don't need to do anything, Vanya!" Russia swept Alfred under him and kissed him softly. He savored Alfred's taste, touch, and love. Alfred giggled and kissed him back just as sweetly. Alfred heard more voices and stood up, "this will be a great surprise!" Alfred his behind Ivan as the other nations gathered.
"Ivan? Vill jou help me vith this?" Germany pointed to a table that him and Italy couldn't carry. Alfred smiled and stepped out.
"I'll do it!" Alfred ran up and picked up the table effortlessly. Germany couldn't process what was happening, none of the nations could. It was definitely the greatest surprise they ever received. The party went great and Alfred explained he just needed to store up his energy before being incarnated again. That's why he took the form of the rare tree. The other nations welcomed him back with arms wide open, they finally had their America back. Their family was once again complete.
