Backstory: Mark Castle is the nephew of Frank Castle and the son of Lydia Castle, before Frank Castle became the punisher. Frank was a parental figure to him after his real dad left him and his mother when he was a baby due to his violent and harsh behavior towards his wife, Frank acted as a father towards his own nephew, helping him becoming a stronger and resilient person. However, after the lose of his wife and children, Frank took on the role as the punisher, protecting innocent people from harm as well with his nephew Mark. It wasn't long until Frank was murdered by the Union Academy. Mark was devastated by the loss of his uncle because he and Frank had a close bonding, this made Mark so angry that he vowed vengeance again the Union Academy who killed his father.

Not just the Union Academy alone, Mark also embraced a persona just like how Frank did when he became the punisher, he decided to embrace protecting the public from harm, executing the bad without showing any mercy towards the cruel.
