Chapter fourteen

Hade's pov

I've always wanted something to call my own. From a young age I've had things and people  taken from me. My parents, my sisters and brothers. My pack ranks snatched and been demeaned. Treated like a lesser being. Treated like a mutt. I hated that.

It becomes tiring. You then get this urge, desire to take back what was initially yours. You only see the end but not the means. You don't care what happens along the way, as long as you get what you deserve. You don't take into account the risks, just taking back what was yours.

And that's how Hades came to be. But back  then my name was Gabriel.

Gabriel Black.

                              ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was very young, seven maybe, when our alpha said that all children were going to be recruited for training. Apparently there was a prophecy, one that promised our pack, Mufulia a reward for eternity.
A miracle child. One whom would deliver us into victory and prosperity, this way overtaking other packs and hopefully becoming more powerful. Apparently the seers of the pack  received a vision from the moon goddess, predicting that during a war that child would be our saviour.
No wonder they are always so eager for war! What was it with men and war? Showing strength where there would definitely be casualties.
My siblings and I were taken for the recruitment sessions. They would lay off the 'lazy' ones and assign them different roles. I considered myself lucky to have remained in those classes.
It however became tiring. Working us to the bone, restricting our visiting hours and sending young children outside of pack lands to hunt and fight along side trained warriors.
The alpha was relentless to find that miracle child that would reward the pack with unbeatable strength. Would be our sole protector, a gift from the moon goddess. To me it sounded like a curse. Why would they even use a child for gain and it wouldn't even be for a good purpose!
They included witchery in the training. They wanted to find those with extraordinary abilities. I knew I had to leave. I could not let the witch find out my secret. I knew the herbs would stop working if another witch caught on my secret.
So one night, I packed my bags and planned to leave the training grounds and go home. They only allowed us to visit home two days a month. I had to inform my parents of the new revolution.
"Gab, why are you home?" My mother was so shocked to see me. "If the guards find you here, they will arrest us."
"I know mom, they brought a witch to the training grounds, mom. They'll know the truth. We need to leave."
My mother was scared, she screamed to alert my father of the new danger. "We need to leave Markus, if they discover our identity we are as good as dead."
"No we can't leave Angela, we have worked so hard to get where we are right now. Besides we still have the potion, it is made in a way no other witch can break the spell." Dad sounded so naive right now. Our lives were in danger.
"Markus, if the council knows we lied to them about what we are, we will get killed. Please think about our children. We can always start again in another land. One that is safe. One that doesn't threaten our existence and our children. We don't even know if that prophecy is true. They might be lying."
Dad looked so conflicted. He was ready to give up everything to make his mate happy. However, you could also see the hesitance in his eyes. We have shifted and moved from many packs. We were nomads but decided to have permanent residence here.
"Okay, okay, we'll move. But we need time to prepare, we need supplies cause the only next pack is far up north. Gab go back and make sure you keep a low profile. Postpone that witch testing as long as you can. We leave the next blood moon." He said with a tone of finality.
The next blood moon was four days away. I could survive four days.
I wished I hadn't spoken sooner.
                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Gabriel Black, I want a very good reason why you ran away from camp yesterday night," shouted commander Lincoln.

"I'm sorry, I just went swimming. It was hot in the camp and I had no other way of cooling. It will never happen again sir." I said softly. I made sure to keep my heartbeat steady. If I got  caught on the lie I would be in deep trouble.

"Why don't you go there right now, since you love swimming so much. No clothes on, just your boxers. I shouldn't see you flinching or shaking. Leave now."

I ran towards the lake and stripped. The water was so cold. I started regretting the lie but it would keep me safe for a while.

My punishment ended late in the evening. I was able to get dinner with my pals. They said the way the witches spell was so overwhelming. Apparently she was digging into people's memory and going deep enough to your subconscious.

They said that was what was helping unlock the powers. I was quiet during that discussion cause I didn't want the catching on my weird behaviour.

That night I went to sleep as any other day, praying the moon goodness would protect my family and I.

                   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up with a pain running from the back of my head. I groaned in pain and tried to touch the sensitive area. However, that was not possible cause I felt my hands were constrained.
I tried stretching my hands only to find them tied, my legs as well. This was getting very uncomfortable. I looked around only to find myself in the middle of the training fields.
What filled me with dread was the fact I wasn't alone.
My whole family was here. They were all tied up as well.
"Finally decided to wake up, you abomination," said the alpha. Alpha Toby laughed maniacally pointing at me," you thought of running away. Don't make me laugh, I'd hunt you and your entire  family to the ends of the world. Now I want you to watch your whole family burn before I end you myself."
The witch started waking towards my family's direction and was muttering some words. My father was screaming telling her to stop cause he didn't want to hurt them. My eyes opened wide when I saw his demon claws coming out.
NO! She was forcing him to shift.
"STOP." My whole family was shouting towards her, I included. She would show his true form and then alert the pack members that there was a demon in their territory.
A whole family of them.
I was shaking in anger and also fear, cause I knew who was definitely next in line.
Why were they doing this? We never hurt anyone, we were always so peaceful even knowing our destructive nature. We tried our best to live amongst them in harmony.
"Why are you doing this to us? We are noting but nice to all of you, you are the abominations not my family," my mother screamed to the alpha. She never had fear when it came to fighting for her family. She was one angry wolf at the moment, a very angry she wolf.
She tried breaking the chains but they weren't snapping. I tried breaking mine as well but it seemed to get tighter the more I fought against them.
"Mom, mom stop. It's bound with magic the more you fight, the more tight they become." I tried shouting over my father's painful screams.
I wanted blood. My wolf was craving the blood of those hurting my family. I was more afraid of my other side. He wanted death, he would not rest until Toby and his pack were done. I'd make sure of that. I knew he would savage this entire place and leave no survivor.
The witch stopped her spell when the ground started shaking. The shaking intensified making the pack look around. My father who was almost in his full demon nature turned his face towards me.
"Gabriel, stop show them we are better than them. We don't kill anyone remember." Even in his weak state he was still concerned for people who were trying to kill us. I wanted my family to have happy life, no more running.
I was scared when I saw Alpha Toby walking towards my sister with a spear. No she was a child.
"NO."
                  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The place was total chaos. When Toby tried to kill my sister, that was when I finally snapped. With some new unimaginable strength, I broke the chains. I heard a few gasps and from the looks of my family I think I shocked them all together.

I looked at my hands and saw my claws. My demon claws, I had finally been able to fully shift.

"Black I want you to step back and leave. Boy, if you even try to touch a pack member, I will kill you and your pathetic family." Toby had stepped away from my sister.

I turned  to him and growled," don't you dare call my family pathetic you dog. I'm not leaving without any of them. So step back." I stood in a defensive stance towards my family, pack warriors surrounded us holding weapons.

I was outnumbered but I'd rather go to hell and back before I allow anyone to hurt my family. I was brought back to reality when I heard a snap. I turned back to horror and screams.

My father's neck was bend with an obvious break. I turned and looked at the witch, cause she was the only one capable of doing that.

"No Markus."  My mother screamed loudly full of anguish upon the death of her mate.

I felt a new kind of anger rush through me. They killed the one person who wanted them to see the good in us. I wasn't going to let any of them see another day.

"No he was mine you had no right to kill him. Finish them son. Finish all of them."

"Gladly."

Just as I was about to punch her, I felt myself been lifted from the ground, screaming in pain. I felt as if my body was burning from the inside. Been taken apart piece by piece.
