Chapter 79: Lunch and a Movie
Koto's POV
Walking back from principal Nezu's office, I'm fully ready to spend the rest of the day in bed. It's only 10:30 am and I've already been emotionally attacked at all angles. Nezu was cheery like always, but totally condescending. Aizawa kept saying how irrational I was. Mic just made problems worse by trying to defend me and always being out reasoned.
I saw the moment he decided I wasn't worth defending anymore. I remember him looking at me sadly as Aizawa and Nezu recounted all the ways I could be dead, lost, or kidnapped and tortured.
I shake the memories off as I stagger back to the dorms, sweating profusely. This morning when I went to my meeting, I was sure at least somebody would be in the common room that I could convince to go with me. Instead, I found it startlingly quiet.
I push open the door, expecting more excitement than this morning, but instead find the same cold, empty room. I'm thoroughly confused. Where is everyone?
I sigh and go back up to my room, not willing to stand anymore. The moment I get there, my movies call out to me. I quickly set up my projector on my bedside table and point it to face the blank wall across from my bed. The image isn't as clear as I would've liked, but I can't hang the screen by myself, so I go and find a movie.

About an hour into Bolt, I hear more knocking coming from my door. Are people finally back?
I pause the movie and shuffle over to the door, my sickness having become worse because of the meeting. I'm shocked to find Bakugo standing there again. This time, he carries a tray with a bowl of soup and a sandwich.
"I-i" I stutter.
"You didn't eat yet," he states rather than asks, though I sense that the statement was open ended. I shake my head and, in response, he pushes through the door, kicking it closed behind him.
"You d-don't have t-t-to stay," I stutter quickly as he goes to place the tray on my bed. His hands slowly place the tray down.
"Wasn't planning on it, Curly," he growls, turning around again to come towards me and the door.
"But you can," I say, moving between him and the door. I sigh as he stops in front of me.
What're you doing here, Bakugo? Do you want something from me or what? Why do you keep coming back?
"I'm wat-t-tching a movie."
He seems to contemplate for a bit. "Are you actually going to eat?" He asks, voice full of disdain.
"P-probablly the soup."
He clenches his jaw as he glares at me.
"I d-don't think I c-can do solids yet," I mumble.
"Well then you better eat that whole bowl of soup," he says, marching back over to the bed.
It's not like Bakugo to find a reason to stay. Something's up with him.
I climb back into the nest I've made and arrange a few pillows to the side for him. Thankfully, my bed is big enough that we can both sit here comfortably without touching. He doesn't need to be asked to climb into the seat I've made, keeping his respectful distance as he snatches the sandwich off the plate.
I press play and take a sip of the dark orange broth. Almost immediately, I can feel the tears spring to my eyes as my mouth seems to catch fire. I breathe heavily through my mouth for a few moments, sweat rolling down my forehead, before taking another sip.
"Having second thoughts about the sandwich?" He asks, sending me an evil grin.
"Know-knowing you, there would b-be h-habenero p-peppers in that t-to," I manage to stumble through my words.
He turns his smile back to the screen. "You'd be right," he says smugly, taking another bite from the sandwich. He chews and swallows before saying, "but at least these you could take off."
I shake my head and take another sip, illusing, "capsaicin is good for when you're sick. It's probably good that I drink this."
He nods slowly, almost like he had thought about that himself.
I sit back and mumble, "also it's v-very good."
He only glances over at me briefly before returning to the movie and eating the rest of his sandwich with a smug smile.

When the movie ends, I sit upright and stretch as the credits play.
"I still can't believe you cried," Bakugo says with his signature evil smile. For the first time, I sense genuine humor in it though. Maybe the only previous times he's smiled like this, he's plotting something which is why I think of it as evil. Maybe it's just his smile.
"It's a sad movie!" I exclaim, defending myself. "They almost d-die! And Bolt d-does whatever he c-can to prevent that b-because she's his p-p-person!"
I feel a tear slip out just at the reminder.
Bakugo laughs once, but it's loud and mocking. I slap him on the shoulder, looking down at my food.
"I thought I lost you
When you ran away
To try to find me."
The music plays in the background, reminding me of countless nights of my childhood when I'd watch this with my parents.
"You know that song you were singin' last night?" Bakugo asks, looking down at a pillow that rests in his lap. He picks at a stray thread. "Why'd that guy want to stay?"
I look at him blankly. "You need t-to give me more than that."
He exhales, his nostrils flaring. "I can't remember the words!" He snaps, then appears to think for a moment. "He said something about staying to fight or following some girl."
Understanding dawns on me. "Marius," I say.
"Yeah sure. What's his deal?"
To make it faster, I illuse, "he just met a girl he really liked but she had to move. He was a part of the revolutionary efforts, but knew that he would probably die if he fought. He had to make the choice between her and freedom."
"How is that even a choice?"
"Because..." I look down at my own feet and fiddle with the ring on my necklace. "The heart makes it hard to know what's right."
"But she's just one girl."
I glance over at him. His red eyes stare intently at me, genuinely questioning. "She represents the life he could have. He's a rich boy that doesn't need to fight for freedom, but he wants to anyway. He knows that his friends will suffer whether they fight or not. He's the only one that has a choice to live in peace. He's questioning whether it's worth it to see all his friends dead just so he can keep living a comfortable life. The fact that he stayed to fight shows his bravery."
Bakugo is silent for a while. Eventually, he stands, puts his plate on the tray, and walks to the door. Before he gets there, he turns back. "Does he die or what?" He spits out, almost as if he's angry at his mind for being so curious.
I'm about to answer, but I change my mind. "We'll w-watch it," I state definitively.
He just turns around and walks out, once again rolling the door closed.
------Author's Note------
Hey guys!
Sorry for yet another filler chapter, but I really want to highlight all that's going on with her and Bakugo. Especially after her little adventure to America. The next chapter will show a little more of the class before we get back into the main storyline.
The provisional license exam is almost upon them! If you can't tell, I'm really enjoying writing them in the dorms. It's so much easier to find times that they hang out. The upcoming couple arcs will have a lot of cannon storyline with some of my own scenes mixed in. I hope you'll enjoy it.
Also! My lovely friend JunieWeathers has created a beautiful new icon for me!
If you don't know Junie, go and show her some love! Her stories are absolutely brilliant and I'm addicted!!
Anyways, have a good week! Stay lovely!!
